that was the big play that turned that game around slc through a bubble screen to dodge and he threw it bout 40 yards for a td to evan fent. i thaught it was huge cause it tied the score and it seemed like LP never recovered from that blow great call !!!!!

With 2 'starting' QBs in the field - that play is possible many times in game. I think the timing of introducing that play was great. It turned the game for SLC and gives Katy something else to think about in their defensive deployment, when both Greg M and Riley D are on the field.

we ran a trick play in dodge's first game at carroll, a halfback pass thrown back to ricky lay vs wf at old dragon stadium. the next was a direct snap to luna on a short yardage play while everyone else looked for the play from the sidelines, vs lp in 02. we ran a reverse to mckay vs abilene. not very many of them, but have all worked as planned.

i remember the reverse to mckay, that got huge yardage...i vaguely remember the direct snap. That's a clever play right there...i think dodge should bust that one out again. I didn't go to many football games back in the ricky lay days, nor did i care. regardless, 4 trick plays in 5 years...that's not often

There was also one at new dragon stadium when Wasson was playing receiver and Lay was at quarterback. It was very similair to the play that was ran yesterday

Film doesn't lie, because Jamie Harris, FS for Lufkin, got burned on several plays like that during the year. Everybody tried that on us in the playoffs at least once and it worked several times.

you would say that.... if your a true SLC fan you have seen every game since 1992.
HAHA J/K but you talk a whole lot on this board i would of thought u had seen many games before 2002.

When I saw the pass to Riley was actually a lateral and not a pass and then he rared back to throw - I sat down -- and just let the crowd confirm to me what I knew was about to happen - td SLC. Lufkin got burned on that play 4 times total this year - period.

well i moved here in '99, and i was 11. if you've been to any SLC games, which im assuming you have, you would've seen the masses of little kids playing football or socializing in the grass. needless to say i was one of them. i started getting interested in 2001, i remember that game against grapevine they rescheduled for the next day. what a game that was. i also remember the coppell game with the bs fourth down spot that cost us. back then i was only 13...i would consider that pretty good...not even in HS yet

The safety should have never bit on that. Everybody on earth knows that Riley Dodge #11 is the next great qb at SLC. It should have been common knowledge if he got the ball on a quick pass in the backfield that it the double pass might happen. I mean Lufkin did not even have a guy near the wr. It has happened several times this year and there was no excuse for it Saturday. Does not take a genius to figure that out. If #11 get's the ball behind the line of scrimmage stay the hell back secondary. Do not come forward until the crosses the line. Common sense in my estimation.

Didn't Hays Cons. run that same play.....the first play of the game against Lufkin?
It worked for them too.

Harris did not do well back there this seaon. He was a converted linebacker to free safety and alway thought about run support first, terrible cover guy. I guess there wasn't anyone else that could get the job done. Hewitt and Shankle both had sub-par years. Leonard was not the same player as last year, for various reasons beside the knee and Shankle never lived up to all of his hype. His biggest play all year was a block on #90 from Copperas Cove. He didn't have the vision for a RB or the hands for a WR, his work ethic in practice was lazy and he was always hurt. All he had was speed, he is more a trackman than a football player.
As I said earlier, the film doesn't lie and coaches see that weakness right off the bat.

PA05 - I share your frustration in some aspects, but I think your frustration is a tad high right now. EJ had a solid year, but you make a decent point. Leonard was not all there in the p.o.'s - I for one would like some confirmation as to what he was dealing with. The best defensive scheme we had all year was against SGarland and that carried forward to the first half against a great CCove team - then it disappeared with the Waco night and never really came back. The team was an emotional wreck against SLC - worn out and just not 100% there.
I applaud Lufkin for another great year. Had Jeremy not gone down - who knows.

I have heard he had a pulled muscle but i am not sure. Either way, I am not making excuses but i have been watching Hewitt for a long time and there is no way he was even 75%. He has always had another gear. He had has not had that other gear for a couple of weeks now at least. I knew something was wrong several weeks ago when he was started to give 10 yard cushions and was playing safety at times.

Congratulations to Lufkin on another semi appearance. I was really hoping y'all would pull it off. I hate to see injuries put a damper on the season. It has happened to Longview 3 of the last 4 years.

Yep - and faircatching all punts then moving away from the ball and letting it bounce. You certainly wonder why they call his number on the fake punt play - the lb tackled him with one wrist. Leonard will be a good D1 db IMO. The silver lining is Terry (No. 30) could be another Leonard-type db next year. He probably never gets a snap if Leonard is 100%.

Yeah i heard Outlaw on the radio show yesterday talking about it. Hewitt pulled a groin a few weeks ago and they did not want to let anybody know because they were afraid the other team would exploit it. SLC sure exploited him that is for sure. He was not the only one getting burned though. In my armchair qb opinion you have to get very physical with the SLC wr's and use the 5 yard rule to hit them at the line and throw them off their routes and throw the qb's timing off. Highschool football does have the 5 yard rule right?? I just do not think you can let them run clean routes without being jammed.

You can absolutely jam the first 5 yards. DD claims the SLC wr's are the best at getting off the jam because they practice it every day. I would probably agree - that seems to be a move learned more in college or pros - but I agree with you - you either go for the jam or you give a respectable cushion. The LP db's try to do something in between.
