I've heard both that GG will red shirt and GG will not red shirt. If he doesn't red shirt then obviously there will be a 2 year separation between GG and Wood.

I don't know much about the school either other then the fact that it's a private school in Houston.

He's disappointed Aggie fans as well. He was pretty high up on their list.

I was reading some of the Aggy reaction earlier...according to the following board, ShermWOW got their #1 guy in Showers a while back and only just recently offered Wood b/c they don't rate him as highly as the rest of the country.

I learn more about A&M from Texas fans than A&M fans. :D ;)

Anyway, that's interesting. Remember, the best isn't always the right player. Ever seen Miracle? "I'm not looking for the BEST players, Craig; I'm looking for the RIGHT ones." You never know what Sherman saw. Maybe he saw a QB who just fit better into his system. Or something else. Who knows? At least the talent is staying in state.

Why is Showers a dual threat and Wood a Pro Style even though they run the same 40. Wood can jump 5 inches higher also. Can Wood not run in the open field? Or can Showers not throw the ball?

Maybe the played in different offensive systems in high school? Maybe Wood has the tendency to throw the ball away to risk getting hit and was trained to make it happen with his arm more than his legs while Showers is more used to running? It just depends on how people see them.

It may have to do with playing preferences. Wood may be the better athlete though. One of the guys at Scout said he was at a few of Wood's basketball games. Supposedly, the kid dunks with both elbows above the rim.

My honest reaction to this...and I was discussing this last night with some fellow alums....on one hand this is a good thing...but on the other I'm not real sure about this move...Could it be as much of wanting to keep Connor away for the trash as opposed to actually recruiting him to play...but one thing is for sure, this smells like it did with Major and Chris and I'm not sure this is the best thing for the program...I'll need to think more on this and will post more later on.

I think competition is a good thing, if gilbert gets beat out by wood then so be it. Now i doubt it happens but ya never know.

Im just hoping we get Wilson soon and one of those other gifted receivers

I'm always a believer that competition is a GREAT thing for all parties involved, especially when it's between several big-time prospects. You can't afford to become complacent if you have another guy or two trying their best to take your job.

I think you're underestimating the magnitude of this commitment. Look at the situation we had the last time we brought in a big time recruit at qb. When we brought in Vince we had guys from 03 and 04 that didnt want any part of competing for a job. We lucked into a situation were we had a redshirt freshman (colt mccoy) who was way ahead of his years in terms of developing. We can't count on a colt mccoy type situation EVER happening again. I like the approach that USC takes with their qbs, just stockpiling talent at the position and having them wait there turn

If they are staggered then yes I agree. I dont think its a problem or at least a problem eveyone would like to have...but it can be an issue... From a total give each other healthy competition point of view, it's great and I love it....I'm just saying we just had a very good player in Jevan Snead transfer out..now as you point out, Colt played great AND thank God he was never injured (major injury)...but its just a feeling I have with this one, that I dont see both staying (one sitting the bench)...rather I think we will see one transfer out and weve spent a scholi on a player that wants the same as the other guy does...and thats to be able to start. Maybe one flakes on us, maybe one sits back and waits his turn..or maybe we recruited 2 starters and there can obviously only be one..I do not under any circumstances want to see a QB shuffle every other series, going on. My hope is it all works to our benefit and it turns into an outstanding move.

Also, just from a hater point of view...I love the fact that the suck to the north is going into panic mode...and no doubt are contemplating plan B...or even C at this point.:)

Fair enough. I see were you are coming from with the jevan snead incident. Im under the assumption that Garrent Gilbert won't redshirt, because i think (just like every other longhorn fan is hoping for) that GG is game ready by the time Colt graduates and will be able to take over for him as a true sophomore. Now if you redshirt both Conner Wood and Case McCoy then you have two years of seperation between them and GG, and there will be a nice qb competition set up when Gilbert graduates provided neither transfers. You can't be afraid of having guys transfer. Its inevitable that it will happen every year, but you have to plan ahead for a situation like that. Not be stuck like a deer in the headlights when you've lost all your depth.

Agreed...I'm glad that Mack brought in Jevan knowing deep down that he (or possibly Colt) might transfer. Competition is always a good thing!

And like SLC stated...keeping the talent away from the Suck is always a good thing!

I just have one question about Case McCoy...and its serious..

Did he have an accident with his face or something? In all seriousness, i really am curious...Cause i have a lot thoughts running through my head right now about him...

I remember reading somewhere that he got in a pretty bad car accident when he was little. Don't recall where I read it though.
