After watching todays games. I have my own thoughts who the final top 10 in 5 A is.
1. SLC (Go to Lufkin basically kick butt and get Katy at TS equals #1 in my book. SLC wins next week. Will be a good game but SLC wins easily.
2. Katy: Make the finals at 15-0 you should be #2
3. Trinity: Division 1 state champion means something. Even though their road to state was pretty easy. Much easier than Katy or SLC. If SLC and Trinity matched up. No doubt they lose to SLC.
4. Smithson Valley; Quality Program. You could flip a coin with Katy on who plays SLC.
5. Plano: They proved they are back. Taking SLC to the brink and beating SGP who handled up on Trinity in week 8.
6. ]Highland Park:[/[/SIZE]B] Everyone knows that HP is a 5A school. They just skim off the top on enrollment every 2 years.. Great team this year. Should be 5A.
7. Lukfin. 14-1 not to bad. However had SLC in their back yard and couldn't compete. Must cut them some slack since they did lose their QB.
8. Converse Judson: Gutty team who over achieved. Got to give props to them reaching the finals and beating a very strongWestfield team.
9. [B]Spring Westfield; Most under achieving team in the playoffs. Layed an egg vs Judson.
10. Copperas Cove: Great season just fell a little short vs. Lufkin.
What are your thoughts?

I think its just a little premature for a top 10 poll, besides who needs it?
No. The rankings are only there to try and give an idea of the best teams in the state when there's no tangible way to compare them. The playoffs are the ultimate test, and the real teams will survive and be there in the end.

well lets break it down.:D
Highland Park blew out Marshall
Marshall played close with Longview
Longview beat Lufkin in a scrimmage two weeks before week 1 and have the shirts to prove it
So Highland Park would beat Lufkin.
(This is stupid and is a joke. I don't really believe this. Please do not chew me out)

I think that earns them Honorable Mention, simply cause that takes mad skills.

You can't go on trueisms (i.e. the grass is green, the watter is blue, so the sky is red). Two true statements don't make the third right. It is with out merit that you could draw a conclusion w/o a game being played.:)

1) SLC.....until someone beats them!
2) Euless Trinity.....it's a tie between ET and Westfield!
3) Westfield.....had 5 players out against CJ....and CJ only forced 1 offensive td against them...just like they did against ET, yesterday!
4) Lufkin.....great talent....could of made noise if they were in the DI bracket.
5) Katy....solid....but I see 5 or 6 other teams - from different Regions - beating them!
6) Smithson Valley.....a solid threat, but not someone to lose sleep over.
7) Plano.....could have made noise if they had played in the DI brackett...ET vs Plano.....?!
8) Copperas Cove....upset potential. Too wishy-washy, though!
9) Converse Judson.....not a real athletic team, but plenty of championship heart. Upset potential!
10) North Shore....a great young and athletic team. 2006?! Look-out!!!
Highland Park would come in at 11.....but I think they could make some noise.

I would tend to agree that this is a useless list this time of year but, since you have it up here, I think Cy Falls should be somewhere on that list. They played evenly with Katy and Katy is going to the Championship. They also had a fantastic playoff run - best in their history. We were seconds from going to the semi-final. We would match up well with a few of these teams and next year we should be even better. Just my opinion. How many minutes until 2006 football season starts????

Trust me Plano did not get their booty kicked by SLC. Ask any SLC fan. However, Lufkin layed an egg in the second half and lost 3 touchdowns. Comparatively speaking that shows Plano would match up very well vs Lufkin and would beat them.:D

somebody I can't think of
but I think you all forgot about AMC-they're returning just about everyone next year I believe, and they gave Trinity a great first half IIRC. Trinty and SLC might be down some next year (losing a bit), SLc is gonna have to find quite a few great WR and Trinity is losing their whole starting backfield.

Not making excuses for our loss. But keep in mind, Lufkin was without their starting QB, LB & our All State DB who led the state in Int. last year was @ 1/2 to 3/4 his ability because of injuries. Our QB vs SLC was one of our top 2 WR. This was our back-up QBs/starting WRs 1st start of the year with a week to prepare. Keep in mind we are a passing team. Also, Plano's O is nothing like SLC's O. It's a different game playing a team that is almost all run O vs a pass O. We both have one thing in common. We both were beat out by SLC.

So if you are going by how close a team comes to beating someone as to where they rank, then who was the team that almost beat SLC in the regular season? I can not remember who that was, but if the score indicates something, then that team could beat Plano,,Lufkin,, and all the other teams? Get real dude. Look at the yardage comparison in that game , SLC spanked you guys!!!

Intelligent but totally biased analysis. Lufkin and CCove are better than Plano. Lufkin beats Plano by 14 with our mvp qb playing. Our speed would have you reeling and Lufkin never gets beat by a run only team. We scored more than you did against SLC with a gimpy legged wr playing qb. I do applaud Plano for a great year and great plan against SLC - very worthy of any final top 8 IMO.

Plano and HP give each other so much love it almost makes you raise an eyebrow - nothing new there. Alot of Planoites are HP wannabes - not enough Jack or blue blood to get to the Metroplex promised land. I am impressed with HP - who wouldn't be - but that's a senseless addition to a top 10. There's a reason why HP hadn't won a state title in almost 60 years.

Is going to the state semis not considered making noise in the div2 bracket in your book?? Westfield lost to 4 loss Judson team in the state semis while Lufkin lost to a #1 undefeated team?? Both Lufkin and Westfield finished 14-1. I am trying to understand your logic? Well maybe westfield was 13-1??

Was HP undefeated on the year?? They must have really improved in 1 year. I know DR blew them out last year but HP blew DR this year. They were beat out in the 4a div1 playoffs last year and Ennis beat Marshall by 1 point in last year's finals. They absolutely destroyed Marshall. I would put them about 9 or 10 in 5a.

I'm sure HP is a fine squad - but I thought 4A was typically like 5A - the deeper bracket is D2. Marshall barely got by a depleted Kilgore squad this year and several teams played them close. Kilgore last year was every much as dominant as HP this year.

1. Katy - It takes more than talent to win football games and though SLC has better talent, Katy has the heart
2. SLC - Great talent. Jacobsen and McElroy are two of the best in the state.
3. Lufkin - Put up a great first half against SLC, without their starting QB, but couldn't come back and finish the game. Great team though.
4. Trinity - They won state, can't argue with that. HAKA power!
5. Smithson Valley - Great team. Showed a lot of heart in second half of Katy game
6. Westfield - Should've won state in D1 but couldn't beat Judson. Not to underestimate Judson but Westfield should have come away with that.
7. Plano - Amost pulled it out vs SLC. Couldn't take advantage of their late lead.
8. Judson - They did make it to the title game so they deserve to be in the top ten. They fell short, but nevertheless they are a great team.
9. Longview - Vondrell McGee is a great RB on a great team. Too bad they couldn't make it further. Good Team though.
10. Cy Falls - I don't care if they were 9-4. They were a great football teram that executred well after Welch moved in at QB.

Westfield had 5 starters out for their game against Converse Judson, (Including their star QB Beasely.) and CJ managed to force only 1 offensive score. Lufkin is a very good squad, yet I feel they would have been beaten by Westfield if they'd of played head to head! And yet I still rank Lufkin ahead of Westfield.

Lufkin had their record holding starting qb out and had to put one of their best wr's at qb. Lufkin was also without a starting lb so the pack can relate. Correct me if i am wrong but didn't the starting qb for Westfield play vs Judson for a while before getting injured??Lufkin's starting qb never played vs SLC. So what exactly is your point?? Judson was a 4 loss team and SLC was the #1 team in the nation?? Judson lost to Cove who lost to Lufkin. Who really cares though it is pointless to fight about. Nobody knows for sure what would have happened if Lufkin and Westfield met. It is all just speculation and homer opinions.

This is my first post... I've been lurking around these forums for a while but after all this debate I will post now.
They aren't at least #2, in my opinion, because they didn't play the best teams in the playoffs and their loss was to a team that didn't go far. SGP was very very good though and them losing to Plano was a surprise. However, teams such as Plano and Lufkin whose only loss is to the best team in the state, thats not fair. The teams Trinity played in their last 7 games:
SGP: Loss
MacArthur: If their QB was any good they could have beaten Trinity since their secondary wasn't very good
Fossil Ridge: They played poorly against a 3rd place team from an average district outside of Carroll, 4 losses
Plano East: 5-5 isn't a playoff record, 3rd place out of 8-5a and a weak team altogether
El Paso Franklin: They may have been 11-1 but they came from a weak district and would not have a winning record in DFW districts
A&M Consolidated: I was at this game and AMC's coach wasn't very smart. They were good but his playcalling was bad. And AMC finished 3rd in 13-5A also, with 3 losses.
Converse Judson: They got better as the season went along, but should not have been in the playoffs. 4 losses meant they can be beat, their playoff road was easy also. Westfied win was big but they were missing their QB.
I am not taking away from the Trinity title its just that I'm sure a lot of teams could have gone in Trinity's place and won the title as well, including Irving MacArthur, SGP, Plano, all those 0 or 1 loss D2 teams who lost in the D2 bracket. The Trojans did not beat a good first place team in the playoffs or a team that was undefeated. They did beat a 1 loss team but they were the worst overall team they played.
Just my 2 cents.

Relax gritty, who cares about a final top 10, I don't. This could be debated forever but in the end this is people's opinion, to my knowledge this site doesn't have a final top 10 anyways because.....its irrevelant!. After the teams that have trophies the rest are just jockying for position on some hypothetical football field. They can have their polls, because that will be the only thing they will have to show for '05.

StarmanDX,
A&M Consol did not finish 3rd in District 13-5A...Consol finished second behind Copperas Cove with a 6-1 district record. Consol's only district loss was 21-14 to Cove.
A&M Consol's other two defeats came at the hands of non-district foe Austin Westlake and State Champion Euless Trinity.

Starman... your are right, your opinion is only worth 2 cents. Trinity has been dissed all year long. The path wasn't as easy as you say. Trinity only made it look easy. Get your stats in line. Your 4 posts show how much you have been paying attention. It doesn't matter how much Trinity beat any team....when they played SGP they had at least six starters with the flu...but they gave all they had. There you go with the weak pass defense.... they only had 8 interceptions in the playoffs, hmmmmm, what does that say?! Tune in and learn something!

First, I wasn't answering critics unless you consider yourself one. I was responding to saying that Plano got spanked by SLC as Lufkin did. I correctly pointed out the scenarios of both games to confirm to you that Lufkin got whipped and Plano did not. Doesn't matter lose by 50 or lose by 1 it's still a L.
Yes Plano will have a very solid team next year. Abyss is a strong word though Plano has vastly out performed Lufkin in Football over the last 45 years except for the last 5. We have met numerous times in the playoffs and have won the vast majority of them. Would that put Lukfin in the abyss as well?

This is by far the most halarious thread that I have seen. Trinity won the D1 tittle last saturday. On this coming saturday SLC and Katy will play for the D2 tittle.I don,t know how many teams play 5A football in Tx, but all but two of them failed their expections. I don, t care about how the PACK is ranked at seasons end, we failed to get the tittle, that is what every one in Lufkin wanted. Lufkin will come back next year just as every other team to try and win the big one, that,s all that matters too me, all this other crap about we beat them so we would have beat you don,t mean "jack"
