Did anyone else notice the refs holding up play on every play from scrimmage at the Carroll / Lufkin game? Every time they set the ball, whether the game clock was running or not, they would stand in the way and not let either offense run the play for quite while...I've never seen refs do that..I'm sure it added 30-45 minutes to the game and effected both teams offenses...was it just me?

yea, it seemed to drag out longer between each play, now that explains why

Did they have to turn anyone away at the gates for this game? I know there was some concern last week about seating??

No..as people have said...it was a poor turnout for Carroll, but like I've said earlier..a lot of people I talked to during the week said they were'nt gonna make the drive if there were'nt going to be enough seats, so a lot of people stayed home & listened on the radio...I can't fault anyone for what happened,,Lufkin won the toss so they got to pick their home field of choice..how else should it be? They were there in huge numbers, on the grass hill & even on our side, which was kind of wierd, but okay with me..they did'nt cause any problems..I love the Lufkin fans...

No not one person was turned away unless they didn't have a ticket.

Absolutley..and there were several comments about this from fans around me. Don't know if LP has a tendency to run offensive plays quickly but it sure slowed down SLC from the frenetic pace they played at in the Plano game. Since one of SLC's goals is to wear down defenses (especially DBs) with the quick play offense it benefited Lufkin when SLC had the ball. Perhaps it also helped the SLC defense since the TOP was won by LP almost 2 to 1 I hear. I have no idea why.
IT was a great crowd and a great atmosphere with beutiful weather. I didn't see any problems but then again security was at a max and any problem would have been dealt with in short order. But, you get this many people together in one place you have to expect some boneheads in the crowd. I would say that 99% of all the fans their today were there to see a good game. At least they got to see half of a good game. :(
I also noticed the refs doing this. Not sure where they were from, but they didn't get around the field very well. There was some horrible spots on both sides from being late getting to the play. Maybe they were holding things up to just catch their breath.

I've never seen it done before..have you? Carroll runs it's Indy pkg where they run play after play to catch the d before they shift & could not do it at all today...

Not to that extent. It's as if the refs were waiting for someone on the sidelines to whistle the ball in play. Not the length of the TV breaks but almost like waiting for a 30 second commercial break. I hope someone comes on here to explain it.

I aslo saw this. The game seemed to move at very slow pace, between plays. Did you also notice that that when the Katy/SV final score was announced; there was still 9 minutes to go in the 4th quarter in the SLC/Lufkin game.

There was a few problems with crowd control at the game. There was 1 in particular that occurred in the 3rd qtr. A LP fan was really spewing some venom on the 35 yard line. He was asked to quit and nearly was the cause of a couple of fights. Finally, 1 of the football parents (you can tell who they are because they wear their son's jersey) went to the police. The police told this guy to settle down and he still didn't. He was escorted out of the stadium. I will say that many LP fans after the game congratulated us as we were leaving. We parked on the home side and not one negative thing was said to us and it was clear that were SLC fans (Dragon gear and all).

I had heard that at their home games a lot of Pack fans sit on the visitor side & always wondered how that worked..it was a bit awkward yesterday...no real problems that I saw, just awkward..in my opinion, they come to win and they come loud...good fans

That is true. Their stadium is rather small. They always have a large crowd and sell out the home side and keep a section on the visitors side for their fans. It was tough when Katy went there a few years back. Katy always brings a crowd. Wasn't much room to sit. A lot were standing for the entire game. A few of their fans were, rather, undesirable after that game. They won and I sure wouldn't have wanted to see those few if they had lost.

Hey! Drgnbkr and SLCDad amongst other SLC posters on this forum. Can you walk around TS to the opponents side so you can 'socialize' with the enemy before the opening kickoff? I want to put some faces with the usernames on this sight. I'll be wearing a Katy shirt with my username on the back. Maybe I'll get to meet you guys this Saturday.
