View Full Version : After watching Euless Trinity today....

I do not think that they would have knocked off SLC had they met in the first round of the D1 playoffs. You might remember that SLC almost went D1 and this "clash of the titans" would have been in the first round. I was pulling for Trinity today (BIG CONGRATS!) and they are fun to watch. A formidable opponent for most any team that doesn't wear green. But IMHO, there is no way they could hang with SLC this year. The best thing that could happen to ET happened when SLC went DII. Neverthless I want to say:
Congrats to the Euless Trinity Trojans- 2005 D1 Champs.

I agree....ET would have exited the playoffs in round one if SLC would have gone Division I. I also believe ET had the easiest path to a state championship in the history of 5A football, since the 2 divisions were created!!
Congrats ET on your 5A Division I Championship!!

I don't want to ruin all the fun goin on here, but keep in mind that we were distracted at the GV game. In case you didn't know, that Thursday night a bunch of GV yahoos came and marked up all of our windows with that nasty red color. They dared to come mess with the dragon's lair. I think that this was a big part of it, and also I think that everyone thought that GV would be easy street.
Nothing against ET, by all means congrats on being the state champs, but I'm not so sure that it would be a really close game. I mean, Abilene, Allen, and Irving were all supposed to be close, weren't they?
Nonetheless, I'd like to see these two teams play a post-season game for all the marbles - a 5A State Overall Championship if you will.
I doubt that anyone can beat the SLC Playoff machine - especially the one that showed up against Abilene and Lufkin.

I knew this would happen ... I expect SLC to follow through and be DII champion. SLC will not be playing Trinity this year. I don't know the result if that were to happen. No one does. Specualte on. I am not saying that Trinity would have beaten SLC. But it is possible. IF SLC beats Katy it would be nice if we were just happy here in the Metroplex to have the D1 and D2 champions ... Congrats to Trinity and take care of business SLC.

If SLC wins next week, this topic will be done to death, as if it isn't already.
I for one am glad SLC went Div 2, not because I feared that they would beat Trinity, but because this gives NE Tarrant county a chance to be the home to both 5A champions. Trinity vs. SLC would have been the battle of the ages, but in the end somebody's season would have ended early.

hmmm wonderful grammer. Anyhow the closest thing we can do is team comparison, and SLC did face one similar opponent as ET, and also beat Plano (who kicked out SGP--the team that beat ET). While everyteam matches up differently, SLC come playoff time has been much more impressive against much more impressive teams. Plus they have had to take care of business a week longer then ET. THis isnt meant as any sorta dis on ET; yall had a great and enviable season. But no one has knocked SLC off as the big dog in the metroplex or even the entire state. They are the "big dogs" all alone...at least for now.

While SLC argues about a fantasy game with ET, Katy just prepares and prepares and prepares. Good luck to both teams, but can y'all imagine the fun if/when Katy beats SLC? I can only imagine the humbleness that will probably escape most SLC fans.
With the way SLC plays, I can understand the "fan's" swagger. But, it never hurts to be thankful and humble on ocassion.

Geez Louise guys and gals, when I started the thread I never intended it to be inflammatory or to denigrate the Trinity team in any way. Quite the opposite is true. Anyone that makes their way to the title game (win or lose) has my total respect. I just don't think that ET could hang with SLC. That is just my opinion and pure conjecture at best. We will never know whether one can beat the other since they will never play. There is nothing wrong with being one of the top 3 teams (as Trinity is) in this great state of ours. Congrats again!!:)

Trinity's offense was not that unstoppable. IMac - SGP - Ridge all held them in check. They only went crazy on weak teams. Plano would probably have won the D1 championship if they were there.
Trinity would have playing from behind against SLC all game.
Plano's Secondary is many times better than Trinity's from what I witnessed.

They had over 500 yards against I-Mac and easily could have had over 40pts but they downed the ball inside the 5 as time expired. Against SGP they had over 400 yards and 28 pts, and agaisnt Ridge they moved the ball very effictivley. To say the only way the moved the ball was against weaker teams is wrong. No one shut down their offense all year.

Thanks for sticking up for the Trojans Farmerfan...SLC fans have what we westcoast-ite USC fans are guilty of as well. We front-runners get tired of folks trying to knock us off without recognizing how great their program is and has been. So props to SLC for being dominant these past 4 years in 5A. I like SLC, lots of folks I went to church with live in SouthLake, nice folks all of them, a few of them I owe some really big favors too...Mr Williams you out there?
Comparing common opponents...Midland Lee (Trinity) Coppell (Trinity) Plano East (Trinity) MacArthur (SLC) Fossil Ridge (SLC). I'm not gonna play the speculation game, there's proof that the trojans were more convincing against three of the 5 common opponents. Remember, this is a running team that will average 4 to 5 less possesions a game, due to the clock not stopping like it does with a passing team. They score alot of points but they are adept at playing the ball control game as we've seen in the playoffs as well. I think Carroll is an awsome team. But if there's a team in Texas that has the offense to hang with them or win, It will be a team that can control the line of scrimmage and score with as much effeciency as the Dragons. Trinity is that team. But SLC gets my vote for National Team of the year with a championship next week. Undefeated season, beating 4 undefeated teams enrout, how could they not get your vote?
SLC fans know what it's like to be USC fan on a Texas board. No respect lol.
ofcourse I know UT will win, Offensive edge to USC, but a huge edge in defense to UT. but USC will be back again, so much depth it's sick

I think it would be nice to see the DI and DII champions "unofficially" square off just to show the UIL what they can do with their system. Sort of like when there are 3 undefeated college teams - it would be nice to see the team that gets left out of the BS championship game get their shot. This is America, for crying out loud:mad:

ET didn't have very many long runs and/ or pass plays except for one against Judson. Rockets did a good job of not allowing that to occur, BUT ET did do a great job of getting 3-5 yards a carry and coming up with timely 3rd down conversions and eating away the clock, which all have been their forte throughout the season. Of course, SLC can score in a very short time, but if ET & SLC had played this year, ET's ball control offense might have made life difficult for SLC. Of course, you can caount SLC out of the game as long as they are behind and there is no time left on the clock--maybe. When you have a mythological game, all the ifs, ands & buts will be the primary factors. Again, congrats to the Trojans and good luck to both SLC & Katy (two excellent programs which are the envy of most others in Texas).

Question: When was the last time that something happening in the parking lot having the effect on the outcome of a game? Give me a break....the team doesn't even hear the fans during the game because of the focus. It would have been a great match, and Trinity would have run the ball well against the SLC pass. Consider this: Trinity has intercepted 8 passes during the playoffs. and: WHO IS THE BIG KNOW IT ALL THAT CAN DECIDE THAT THIS IS THE EASIEST PATH TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP EVER????!!!! That is the most assinine, ionconsiderate, self-serving, snobbish, coinceited, ridiculous statement I ever heard. But it doesn't surprise me coming from you!!! Sit back in your easy chair and let somebody say that about the kids you support all year long and play their hearts out. That also is a jab at all of the teams that EARNED their place in the playoffs. You make me sick!!!!!!!

We hear this same stuff every year at this time. If they were in our brackett blah blah blah..
Congrats to Trinity. They finally got to the promise land. They looked really good in the Championship game. Take away the fumble return (by Judson) and Trinity pretty much dominated most of the game.
I was impressed with Judson. They surprised me on how they looked overall. I think the overall level of San Antonio area football is finally get on par with Dallas/FT Worth and Houston overall. San Antonio has always been known as having 1 or 2 solid teams every year but its looking more and more like San Antonio is going to have 4 to 5 solid teams each year.
Next.. SLC fans, I think I would worry about Katy and not worry about what ya'll may or maybe not of done against Trinity.

Have a fantasy game on this board. You won't need any equipment and anybody can be involved.
On another note. I keep hearing the Trojan/Rocket score could have been 42-7 based on things that could have taken place. Nobody is giving credit to the Rocket offense for reaching the red zone and throwing an interception in the end zone. Make that a completion and the score would have 28-21.:p

are you kidding? no one even cared about that, in fact it was actually humorous. however you are right on thinking they would be 'easy street' to use your word choice. for those who don't know, SLC vs Grapevine is a rivalry game, and in rivalry games schools are more pumped and ready to play than usual. Grapevine came with it and took it to carroll in the first half, they capitalized on carroll's mistakes. Keep in mind, that carroll was missing four starters, and a 5th that was only going to play limited, but ended up playing most of the game because of the situation. Every team gets a wake up call at least once a season, sorry ET, yours was SGP. Doesn't make us, or you any less of a team.

The focus should be on Trinity's GREAT season, and what should be a GREAT game for everyone at Texas Stadium. Once whoever's logo is placed on the top of this great website then we can debate this 24/7 at the conclusion of this season.

Yeah this has been one of the best years in the metroplex ever from teams bringing home trophies to the large quanities of great indiviual performers this year. After Southlake probably brings home another one I personally can't wait for discussions about indivual performers and all state teams some who have played their last game on the high school level, but many who will also be making an impact on Saturdays.
