View Full Version : Third Time Was Not The Charm

I just got home from the game so I apologize if I repeat something that's already been stated in other threads. I'm to tired to read through them all right now.
First of all great game SLC. Your coaches made some great half-time adjustments and you guys really laid it on us in the second half. No controversies or excuses, SLC was clearly the better team today.
I realize the importance of stretching your kids out before the beginning of the 2nd half to avoid injuries but please wait for the band (whether your own or the opposing teams) completes their performance. Four quarters belong to the football team but the half-time show belongs to the bands. These kids work hard as well and deserve their time to shine. I really don't think it was a sign of disrespect or a purposeful slight. I realize the coaches were just focused on starting the second half. Its an honest mistake.
One word for any of you referees out there: Whenever a player's forward momentum has been stopped and he is clearly in the grasp of the opposing defenders, BLOW THE WHISTLE. We had some unnesscarry injuries today because the refs let some plays go on much longer than they should have. Not blowing the whistle can get a player seriously injured.
Congratulations again to the Dragons, I hope you and all your fans make it back home safely tonight.
P.S. One word of caution; The entire Lufkin offense that you saw today will be back next year. We'll catch you next Decemeber;)

I, for one, really enjoyed your huge crowd today...your guys gave it all they had & I know your proud!...I don't understand the band deal...teams come out of the locker room every week & warm up at the end of the field while the bands finish up..sorry I don't get the complaint

Probally nothing more than a difference in philosophy between East Texas and North Texas football. In East Texas you NEVER take the field for stretching while the bands are still playing. That's why you saw such a loud reaction from the Lufkin. We have never saw any team do that before.

i was also going to make this my own thread, but if figured it'd be appropriate to post here. I want to congratualte lufkin on a great season, and a great game (always easier to say when you're on the winning side). i have the upmost respect for lufkin's program and fans. i love it when we play them. also, lufkin played with (dont hurt me wide) class throughout the game. some teams like to take cheap shots, specifically at Mac towards the end of the game. i didnt see any of that today.
Couple thoughts on the game:
-Stadium size was irrelevant, dragon fan turnout was poor.
-Lufkin came ready to play, and so did the fans. it showed earlier.
-Once again, halftime defensive adjustments were the key to the game. 0 pts conceded in the 3rd qtr really put this game away.
And on to state....this time we have a score to settle...

While I realize this clip was not from a halftime vs. warmup situation, it illustrates the reason that the football team should wait until the band is off the field. The players today were not paying attention to the band and our band marches to that end of the field during our drill. Watch this video clip from an earlier game (it comes near the end of the clip).

-you got to be kidding me, the football team was in the endzone, they do it EVERY GAME!! every single game, and now it is a problem? lufkins band is small, so they shouldnt need the endzone, the only band i can think of that uses the endzone, was Allen, and it was just to get on the field, like somebody said i guess its the whole "East Texas VS North Texas" thing
- i was also VERY dispointed in the Dragon turnout, several of us complained the whole week about the size of the stadium, we couldnt even fill our side of it, very embarssing...heck we had LUFKIN people come SIT in OUR stands, i understand the drive being long, but hwne your team needs you to be loud you take the risk, i know ALL of southlake will be there saturday!:D
-and for the people that were there, we were nice and loud, and into the game, the crew was doing all they could dragonfootballfan, so dont chew them out again..

No, I'm not kidding. While it may be considered a norm for SLC or even North Texas, it is NEVER done in East Texas. I'm not saying that makes you evil or anything, I just explaining why so many Lufkin fans are upset with this.

Every game up until now !!! You try that crap while the Katy Band is out there and you will find out what it means to have "Fan Support" !! You'll find out what it means to piss off a team with more pride and tradition in it's left shoe lace than you have in your whole program !!
The players on the field are NOT the only thing that brings that pride and tradition to it's full extreme.

Every other game YOU play. It has never happen at any other games I've been too and that's alot of games. Your team is the only one that has a rep for doing it at every game.
How you can defend this is unbelievable, It's sad that you can think it's a none issue.
Just shows the character of the coaches to let it happen.

oh so you have been to every slc game this year? hmm i think not..im in band, we watch our halftime performance every game..(except playoffs b/c its not a contest show), and EVERY home game the football team is in it streching, and EVERY away game the football team is standing right in front of me stretching in the endzone, so to tell me its never happend?
there are 4 band kids on this site that i know of, and many more parents of band kids, and dragon fans, and they will ALL agree with exactly what i said

i guess , we have to tell coach dodge that instead of stretching, in turf the band isnt using, that coach dodge and hte team must bow down to the opposing band as they perform..
man i hope we are home this week, so we perform 2nd, and this crap goes bye-bye

Teams have come out and warm up in the end zone while the band was still on the field at almost every game I have been to in the last 8 years. With halftimes lasting up to 45 minutes, the players need the time to stretch and warm up. It is not a sign of disrespect for the bands, etc. It is a neccesary evil. Seems to me that folks are just looking for something to get worked up about...
