I find it funny Bama split the NC with SC that year. Even after getting beaten at home 24-14 by SC.

What's funny about it?....Same story really...USC loses to ASU early in the season (5th game) and beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl...All hail USC...
Alabama lost early in the season to USC (3rd game) that year then rolls off 9 straight with a win against an undefeated Penn St team in the Sugar Bowl...
Blame and laugh at the Rose Bowl...

ASU didn't lose one game during the season or they would have had a gripe. USC beat Bama head to head, and to make matters worse at Bama. Only an idiot would argue that.

Yeah, Bama loses a tough game to USC (Bama committed 6 TO's in the game) 3rd game of the season after beating both Nebraska and Missouri the previous two weeks then rolls off nine straight including a win against the #1 ranked and undefeated Penn St in the Sugar Bowl...
USC loses to ASU two weeks later in week 5 scoring just 7 points and getting thumped 21-7....Goes on the beat Michigan in the Rosie Bowl 17-10...Michigan got clubbed by Michigan St that year 24-15...
Lets overlook USC's suckage game and focus on Bama's suckage game...That's the way it works in the West...
Bottom line...Tear up the Rosie Bowl contract...

Bama's supposedly suckage game. Came against the other team arguing about being national champions. Bama lost at home. Your arguing about two teams that played on the losing teams home field and your making an argument for them. That is pathetic.
If SC split the NC with a team they didn't play that season. Who also had one loss your opinion would hold some credit, but since they split with a team they went on the road and traveled 2k miles and dominated it doesn't. SC was up 24-7 against Bama before a late TD in that game. Thats called being dominated.

There is a book out about one of the SC/Bama games. Is this the year? Something about racial division and SC bringing in some black player while Bama was still pretty much an all-white team. The book talks about how the game finally made The Bear change his way about allowing Blacks to be apart of his team since SC dominated the Tide. I wonder where all the media love for USC was then ;)

This is what is pathetic and typical of Pac 10 and USC football....
In 1978 Arizona State gets crushed by a (3-7-1) Washington St team 51-36...ASU gets crushed by a (7-4) Washington team 41-7 and ASU loses to Stanford 21-14....USC can only score 7 against ASU...
1978
Arizona State 20
USC 7
but, because Alabama played their worst game of the year in week 3 against USC lets all forget about Bama running off 9 wins in a roll and beating the #1 team in the nation in the Sugar Bowl and focus on USC's great win in the Rose Bowl...Lets also forget about USC getting crushed at ASU....
Always USC people crying the blues...
If USC had beaten Bama 9th or 10th game of the year, or in a Bowl Game you gotta gripe...As it stands now it's the same old USC (can't run the slate in the "west") and Rose Bowl blues...

The lack of a playoff leads to a lot of discussion, and I think that's a unique thing about college football.
The second post of this thread dealt with that subject.

Well, I'm all for a playoff and doing away with the Pac 10 and Big 10...Both are bad for College Football...

It doesn't matter when USC beat Bama. they beat them. You bring up ASU losing to Wazzou like if that means something. Were comparing USC to Bama. Not ASU to Bama, and USC beat Bama on the field at Bama's house no less. Spin it anyway you want, but thats what happened. You act as if USC played the perfect game against Bama. They had 3 T.O's to. Now we have to start discounting when W's happen.......To funny. Must be nice to live in your delusional southern bubble.

Wake us when they play National Title games 3rd week of the season...
USC gets crushed by ASU 20-7 in week 5 and struggles to beat these teams later:
Stanford W 13 7
UCLA W 17 10
Notre Dame W 27 25
Hawaii (6-5) W 21 5
Michigan W 17 10
And, you wonder why something was split....Bama gave USC a "gift" and USC still couldn't finish the deal...Don't blame the voters, blame USC and the suckage what is the Rose Bowl...
Almost the same in 1979...USC was 11-0-1 (tied a 5-5 Stanford team 21-21 and ended up #2 beating Ohio State 17-16 in the Rose Bowl (Yawn)....
Same story...Get over it...

Missouri was pretty good that year...
Missouri shut out Notre Dame (Joe Montana) at Notre Dame 3-0 that year....Notre Dame put 25 on USC and should have won that game against USC...USC kicked a FG with 2 seconds left to win it...
But, "Bright Eyes" wonders why the vote was split at the end of the year...

Alabama played two west coast teams in 78. Getting beaten by SC at home and squeaking out a 20-17 W at Washington. Those were their two closest games go figure.

Just giving you some of the reasons why the vote was split...I know it's hard to see for you...
Alabama beat Washington 20-17....Washington beat the snot out of ASU 41-7...ASU beat some of the snot out of USC 20-7....Just another reason...
Alabama lost to USC for it's only loss...Goes on to win 9 straight and heads to the Sugar to play and beat the #1 team in the Nation...
USC lost to ASU for it's only loss...AND, struggles the rest of the way and limps into the Rose Bowl and beats a Michigan team who was spanked by Michigan St...
It's not hard to see....

This is funny. You bring up other games to discount the loss Bama took at the hands of USC. You don't need to look at other scores when both teams played. This is all you would need to look at SC 24 Bama 14. I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot you'd be arguing how there could have been a split.

USC beat Alabama in week #3 therefore USC is excused from getting smashed by ASU in week #5 and looking like **** at the end of the year...USC lucky they didn't have 4 losses...
If Alabama had beat USC in week #3 then got thumped in week #5 and played like **** the rest of the year I would not find it "funny" there was a split vote if USC ran off 9 straight and beat the #1 ranked team in the nation in a bowl game...Alabama would have done it to themselves regardless of the fact they beat USC in week #3...
This must be your first year in following college football polls...
Either way, you have no clue...
