Rangers- all I can say is that it was everything we said it would be. I commend your athletes for a clean, smart, hard hitting game. I praise your fans for coming out in full force. Good sportsmanship, hate to have a team of your character leave this fight. People on the board will talk about wasted opportunities, poor play calls, etc. You were the worthy opponent, the noble adversary. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now come support the south as we rise up again.

The majority (99%) of the SV fans have nothing to be ashamed of. Good team and classy fans. But on the other hand, I saw more SV smackers on this forum than anyone. Especially SVite. To them......What does crow taste like?

I seem to recall Katy as being the team to receive the only two personal fouls in the game. A very physical game played between two classy programs. Don't try to throw mud without facts.

I didn't think the refs helped either side. I had a feeling SV would make something happen in that second half. Great programs like that don't roll over. Katy had to hold on due to self-inflicted mistakes in the 2nd half, and others forced by the Rangers. The Tigers found a way in the end, but not before a stern test from a strong Smithson Valley team. I was especially impressed with the Rangers' linebacker play. Those guys were all legit.

this is correct. There were two times when Katy fans were overly upset about what appeared to be pass interference calls- our recs just lost their footing, and dang those DB's and their closing speed. Got on top of us and made it look bad. Ref's made good calls overall. Anyone count how many @$#$^ false start penalties the OL had? Come on hawgs! Got to have it together next week.
dont really agree with the way some kids from katy played but for the most part it was a great game. for the most part the team and fans where great. i enjoyed looking across the stadium and seeing a red wave of pride. ill be there next week cheering yall on to see you kick the blonde out of slcs head

Watch out coolestkid. Dragonbkr might come on this thread and give you a lecture about "losing with class" because you want Katy to beat SLC which he believes is a "gratuitous shot at Carroll" that connot be ignored. See the "17-0 Katy halftime" thread for more more info.
You MUST root for Carroll or dragonbkr will exercise his right to call you "classless.":p

SV choked again. SV has a history of choking in big games. except instead saving it for the State Championship game (where SV has lost all 3 they have appeared in) SV did it in the semis this year. This SV fans grossly overated their team. SV posters stated SV was going to win state this year - I don't think so.

I didn't see SV choking at all! They had their usual 3rd qtr. assault. Katy probably had the best defense SV played all year. SV's team is very disciplined and takes it to you. Our kids can be proud of winning against a team like SV.

Shutting out one of the most accomplished and respectable offenses in the state is hardly choking. SV did everything right 2nd half. Forced turnovers, controlled the football/clock. Katy's defense just stepped up at the right time. (just like last week, katy's Offense made plays when they had to) Toonman Don't take anything away from SV- they earned their right to be there, and they left with their heads held high. When Katy plays anywhere in the state they come in big numbers. The crowd would have been just as big for Katy if it were in San Antonio. We really like going there anyhow. I have to admit that west Houston has little to offer compared to the River Walk.
There will be a big Katy following to Texas Stadium this week. You can bet on that. This game should draw a many HS football fan from all over the state and probably even from out of state. It has to be a game high on the must see in person list. Hope you can get there.
SV showed great heart as did Katy in holding them off at the end. This was expected to be close and it was. Two classy and excellent programs are now 1-1. Till we meet again in another thriller.:)

This was a really good game. Katy took advantage on the first play with the 75 yard TD with SV only having 10 men on the field. SV then marched down the field mixing the run and pass and then on that 3rd down deep in Katy territory Katy blitzed and hit Bryan Hill very hard. From that point on he looked really on edge throwing high to everyone....even when there was no pressure. Maybe if he wouldnt have thrown that int. with 50 seconds before half things couldve worked out differently. Katy seemed to shoot themselves in the foot a couple of time but SV could not capitalize. Katy has an awesome secondary and mixes their coverages very well. SV however really exposed their D-line in the second half with nothing but hard running up the middle for two scores. In the end, though, Katy pulled it out and showed they deserved to play in the Championship. Good luck against SLC control the ball and the clock and get the win.

Really? This is the first that I've heard or read ANYWHERE that you guys only had 10 players on that first play. Seems pretty difficult to make such a mistake on the VERY first play from scrimmage.

KTCarl,
Good Luck to you guys against SLC. We knew we were in for it when the blocked field goal still went through the uprights:( It still counted as three points.
I felt one of the keys to the game was Katy's secondary. They close on the ball very very fast. We looked like we were stuck in second gear sometimes out there. I think you guys will definitely miss your #20 after graduation just like we are going to miss our #20 two great athletes out there.
I will say that all the Katy fans I bumped into and spoke to were a class act just talking football.
I think the Judson coached summed it up for a lot of teams yesterday " We had a bad day but a great year."

Outstanding season SV. I know that you wanted another shot at SLC, but Katy just wouldn't cooperate. Two good teams gave the fans their money's worth. Looking forwards to next season. Not sure which district the "outsiders" (SV, Judson & Wagner) will be playing in next year. Anyway, congrats on a good season and representing your school district, 26-5A and San antonio "area" football.

Let me say this about Saturday. Katy deserved to win. If SV had come it would have been another case of us beating a better team. The 75 yard run was huge of course but the INT we threw at the end of the 1st ended up being our undoing and should never have happened. We did partially block the FG and the darn thing went thru anyway. David Sweets FG looked good from where I was sitting (on the 50) but the ref had a better look than I did. How in world did we not cover the fumble on the 15 yard line after we stripped the Katy rb?? I knew SV would not quit but I never though we would have an opportunity to win the game and we had several. Congrats to Cody McKinney on a great second half. Congrats to SV and their tremendous fans on a great season. See you next year. Uhhh.....Katy... SLC would have hung 75 on you or SV on Saturday. This team is not nearly as talented as your '03 team and SLC has not dropped off that much. Good Luck, you are going to need it. The bottom line is SV did not play their best Saturday (especially at QB) and we still nearly pulled it out.

Dont pull out that "SV did not play their best" garbage! I'm sure we could easily say the same. And anyone from Katy will tell you that this years team is much better on paper. Much better offensive balance and more playmakers. What that 03 team did have though was HEART! I also think SLC wasn't quite prepared for our brand of football. Now that they have seen us they will not be surprised. The only facet of this years team I questioned is how they would respond to adversity and they have shown the past couple of games they will not crumble. They have had some mental breakdowns the past couple of weeks and "they have not played their best" either. Hopefully they will cut down on mistakes and play their best game of the year. This has all the makings of a real classic!

C,mon, SV played great! I like SV's style of play and the coaching. I like to think we were able to pull off a win against one of the State's better 5A programs.
SV is a class program. Some of their posters on here may not be. I got several nice comments from SV faithful while eating out on Saturday night. Very nice conversation and compliments. As for officiating, mediocre at best. Several pass interference infractions not called (I have a picture of Thompson in the end zone wrapped up at the legs by an SV player with the ball still 3 feet from Will's hands!). But some of the calls went both ways and not crying here just bad in my opinion. SV had several open receivers with overthrown balls. Hill just had a bad day in my opinion. Katy tried to kill themselves with penalties. When you look at the penalties, fumbles and interceptions you could wonder that Katy even won the game. And Katy isnt going vertical anymore. Run, Run, Run etc. The first play from scrimmage exposed a lack of speed on the DB's for SV and why Katy didnt take advantage of that I will never understand. When BK can run 75 yards and not be overtaken shows a lot to me. He aint that fast folks. All in all, a tough game with a good SV team. Could have gone either way. Too bad one of those two had to lose.

They were from Dallas. They were better than many I've seen. They were not perfect, but seemed impartial in their errors.
Too many times when a team gets beat it is because they had a bad day. I have watched many football games and usually there is a good reason they had a bad day. The bad day is usually caused by the other team. Give credit where credit is due. Katy has an outstanding program. By the way, I wouldn't say SV had a bad day, Katy just had a better one. Congratulations Katy and good luck.

Why - Just because I stated the fact that SV can never win the big game. 3 State championship appearances - 3 losses. 2005 is SVs best team ever and cannot make it to the State Title game. I am entitled to my opinion based on the facts as I see them. You are entitled to yours based on emotion. I will not be trading insults.

toonman, is it considered choking anytime you lose, or just in a big game?
I would have to say that we did not see the best of Katy or SV on Saturday. As I have posted elsewhere, two very good programs with class fans and players squaring off with a great deal of tension was my take. Hill missing MANY wide open receivers and several poor decisions resulting in INT's balanced with "9" penalties including at least two score killers on Katy led me to classifiy this game as "Ugly"! I was impressed by both teams (and the SV band who was the true 12th man for SV). SV didnt fold when down 17 points and Katy's D kicked it up a notch when they had to. But a "great" game it surely wasnt on either side of the ball. I still dont understand the change in SV's kicking game when you got the boomer back there? But, I also didnt understand the change in Katy's proven passing game either so I guess that evens out. Two teams trying to out clock manage the other as it turned out. After the opening play, things settled down pretty much until the last SV drive fizzled. Might have been a great chess match type game but werent pretty. These teams could play 10 games with each winning 5 in my opinion. They indeed were mirror images of each other. Maybe it makes for ugly when that happens. Next game aint no mirror image match up. Katy/SLC is a match of two different styles. I hope we can hang around like SV did with them last year and take it home in the 4th like SV almost did.

It all comes down to the fact that Katy came out guns blazing and SV couldnt do ANYTHING right, three and outs, INT's, a missed field goal, and damned if katy's running game wasn't powerful. SV couldnt slow #'s 32 or 30 all game but in the second half at least kept them from scoring which allowed SV to make a nail biting comeback. Brian Hill needs to get his rear in gear if he wants to compete for a state title, b/c when you throw INT's during crucial downs you probably won't win. I will say that SV's play during the last half was VERY impressive, but it was too little too late, but a valiant effort nonetheless. Katy did everything to win and they were the better team and deserve to go to the title game, so good luck tigers. I want anyone but SLC to win so make me proud Katy, I'm countin on ya.

Hey - it happens and I am not denying it, only that you seem to think it does not/cannot happen. Like the Buffalo Bills of the early 90s; made it to 4 superbowls dominating up to the big game and can you tell me they did not choke in the big game?
