Whats going on with the airline industry? Can we have these many problems and consider flying safe? I mean you'd think these big airplanes could sustain a bird through the turbine. I think we might need to spend a little bit of money to make sure these people who choose to fly are safe.

They were saying on the news this morning that one of the victims is the widow of a 9/11 victim. Death toll at 50. 49 on board and 1 on the ground
Prayers go out to all families.

do you realize how big a goose is?
Looks like this one was weather related, not mechanical failure.
Everyone hates cancelled flights. This is why they happen...

There's no way to completely eliminate the risk inherent in using modern transportation to get around. The safest way to travel will always be to take the patamobile, but flying is still statistically a close second despite the two recent incidents. When they "cluster" like this it makes it seem like things are getting more dangerous when in fact they aren't.

Tower: Colgan 3407, Buffalo Tower, how do you hear?
20:27
Tower: (talking to someone else)?: Need some ground communication, need to talk to someone at least 5 miles NNE, ok, possibly clearance. That area right in there, Akron area, either State police or sheriff’s dept, we need to find out if anything’s on the ground. This aircraft was 5 miles out, all of a sudden we have no response from that aircraft.
20:40
(continued):All I can tell you is that we had an aircraft over the marker, and we’re not talking to him now
21:03
Tower?: Delta 1998, you had any icing where you’re at?

For Delta 1998, I’m gonna bring you in on the approach, if you could give me a pirep when you get to 2300, and ah, if you have any problem with the localizer, let me know, however we’re showing all in the green here.
24:55
Delta 1998: ILS 23, and we’re still in IMC here at 2300
24:59
