it is going to be a great game. SLC playing the last team to beat them and i think they wont some revenge in this one. they have put together a great program in SLC.
I look forward to it again this year and next year i will say. that Lufkin,SLC,Katy,SV will be in the same spot those 4 teams are just amazing.
I am going to go for the Tigers this week. in a close, very close game.

At least we won't have to hear all the groaning and moaning that we heard last week as far the site of the game. I guess now we could say the opposite of what some we're saying this week. Now it is Dodge being selfish in making Katy come all the way to his backyard instead of say playing the game somewhere in the middle of the two schools.

if SLC wins this game it makes you wounder when the heck are they going to get beat again. can they pull of what the school did in California win like 100 + before they got beat. coach dodge son takes the O over next year and he is has like what 2 years left. man what a great program.

Are there going to be enough seats for the Katy fans? The argument was never over location, but over the size of a stadium. There was some information that was not originally shared that showed me the reason why that stadium was chosen.

"In this day and time, it is easy to look out for No. 1, but if you do that, then only you and maybe your immediate family are happy for you. Sports is more than just winning. Sure, you want to win, but this is a tool to teach young men how to become leaders -- good husbands and good fathers. If you're going to be a good husband and father, then you have to learn how to put somebody before you. That's what we teach. When we're all working towards the same goal, then the individual success will take care of itself. That's why we play so many kids. They're all important to us." - Mike Johnston

Your not kidding there one bit. Back in its heyday the Dome might have been a place kids dreamed of playing and to some degree it probably still is is just because of the history of the place. Though after Bud and his kids left for Nashville those in charge of the place let if fall apart.

True about the A-Dome. Not a good place for viewing football. It's a baseball stadium!! I've heard TS isn't that great either. I've read in other posts over 2 yrs. that the place is becoming run down and the soft drinks are $5?!?!?!?!
What's the honest scoop about TS?

i dislike it, but more due to the fact that it swallows large crowds, and is getting run down. good seats thruout however. don't know about the soft drinks but the water is $3. the astropit makes it look like a palace.

You can get a small soft drink for $3.50. It's almost enough to wash down the $7.50 Superbowl Nachos. (Course if your stomach's as strong as mine and your wallet's lodged in your pocket as tight as mine, you just get the nachos and hope one of the water fountains is working--a few actually do!)

Hey, if it has 2 goalposts, decent footing and you can see the yardage markers....then let's play some football.
These kids are all warriors doing the best they can..........and let me tell you...it's not easy. For anyone to come on this board and demean any of these young men with racial slurs is pathetic. Everyone, remember this week is not about us, but about two teams that paid the price, earned every 1st down, and now it's time to play for all the marbles. SLC- Bring the best game that you have. The winner needs no excuses- just who wants it more.

Quality posts, let's keep it going that way and get some good discussion going.
baldtiger15
12-10-2005, 11:00 PM
Not much fodder for great discussion, but I have to add to the stadium ranting. The astrodome turf had hollow spots in it, with plywood underneath. You'd be running then all the sudden feel like you were running on a roof or a dock with nothing underneath. Then they would simply lay a 10 foot square carpet for the UH cougars in the center of the field (it stuck up bout 1 1/4 inches) and stitch it ON TOP of the turf! Teams were tripping on theat until they quit playing there. TS may be run down, but it's a good enough venue to bash some heads in, and cheer about it.
Oh POB- your lack of taste is not only despicable to those reading the posts, but not edifying to the Panther Nation. When I sat with your fans during the Cove Game I was very pleased with them and their spirit. Don't begin to belittle a team that has nothing to be ashamed of, SLC or the Pack.

How does the flip work? Since I was told that the game was to be played at Texas Stadium at 12, prior to the actual finish of the Lufkin match, do I assume the coaches from all 4 schools flip prior to the semi's for the various possible Finals match-up? And, is this the Zip Flip process I read about?

Yes, the flip with all possible scenarios was completed earlier this week. Katy and SLC did a home and home flip, with Katy choosing Reliant and SLC Texas Stadium.

Too bad the Alamodome wasn't available, it really is great for a State Championship game. I prefer a neutral site and San Antono is a relatively short trip from Houston or Dallas. Texas Stadium certainly isn't what it once was but it's for sure better than the Astrodome, though mention of the 'Dome is pretty pointless considering the game would have been at Reliant. It would have been nice for those that haven't been there to get to see it. That is a great place to see a game. I'm looking forward to the trip North. Sounds like the weather will be good, I'm hoping that the game will be as well.

I will get to Arlington Friday evening and see my little granddaughter. Stay the night there. Get up Saturday and start getting pumped up for the "High Noon" showdown, Texas style HS football! Best in the country!! Gonna be a grand time. Win or lose, this has to be a classic match up. I do hope it goes down as such. It could well be the game of the decade in 5A. Saturday will reveal how it gets recorded in football history. I know that is speaking a bit much this early in the decade and prior to the actual results of the game. Just have to wait and see. Is it Saturday YET??
