If you were looking for smash mouth football this was the game to see or hear. Katy took advantage of SV turnovers and produced points. SV missed a FG and Katy made theirs right before the half theres the game right there. Anyways its Katy's turn against SLC hopefully to dethrone them again.

SV vs SLC 02'
Katy vs SLC 03'
SV vs SLC 04'
Katy vs SLC 05'

Great ballgame. I thought Katy would blow out SV, up 17-0 at half, but the Rangers really showed me something in the second half. Very resilient against a tough opponent on the road, and almost had enough to come back and win.

Best player in the game was #20, Will Thompson for Katy. Heady ball player. Did a lot right, and did nothing wrong all day except missed one tackle on a reverse.

Hard to believe that blocked field goal limped over the crossbar, but it did. And that was the difference otherwise it would have gone to OT.

Not sure Katy has enough to beat SLC next week, but I hope they do. Katy is exceptionally well coached.

Last point. Even though Tully was small for a semi-final game, it was a great atmosphere for high school ball. SV fans were represented well, and of course the Katy side overflowed. At least 2-3,000 nonaligned Houston area HS football fans there to take it in. A real treat for a game of this magnitude to be played at Tully. Reminded me of the crowds from back in '78.

Good luck Tigers.

Both defences played an extrodinary game. I thought it would be a high scoring game. I think Katy got a little too conservative 2nd half and turnovers almost cost them the game.SV on the other hand started to pound the run better, and cashed in quite easily in the 3rd quarter because of there D giving them great field posotion and many costly penalties.

The SV recivers made a number of great catches. There quarterback didnt impress me. Threw high several times and tried to force it at the end of the 2nd half.

But that was a great game 2 of the best coached teams gettin after it, In fact SV KT SLC Lufkin are hands down the best programs in texas right now.

That was a great game, made better by the fact it went how I predicted but nevertheless. Congratulations to both defenses on extraordinary performances (both threw up 0's for an entire half) and I doubt either offense had experienced that all year. Congrats to you to Smithson for not quiting when it would have been easy to throw in the towell, and #20 for yall (I know his name its just escaped me though) could play on my football team any day of the week, as could #9. Ive never seen anyone catch Fuda. Anyways, great game, congratulations to both teams, I was happy to see this one went so well.

Smithon Valley...rocks. Great Game...Great turnout...Great Fans...Great Team.
Katy got too conservative, second half. Better not do that next week. We did not bring our 'A' Game today. Too many stupid penalties and mistakes. This game could have gone either way.
BUT...right now we are in the Championship, where we belong and South Lake Carroll better bring it all...
Congratulations, Katy.

The big thing that sticks out to me about this one is the decision to not just run out the clock at the end of the first half by SV. If they take it to the house at that point that game goes to OT at the end of the second half.
The turnover and subsequent field goal was H-U-G-E. Those sitting around us in the sea of red all were convinced when SV got the ball that they should run out the clock because they did not have time to really get anything going and because their QB's arm was not strong. When you look at the play they tried that was intercepted, you have to scratch your head, what in the world was that going to accomplish going 8 yds down the middle of the field into good coverage by the safety? For what they seemed to be looking to do it certainly was not worth the risk. As it turned out I believe it cost them the game and squandered a great second half effort.

Did anyone get a good look at the Katy fumble near the end of the game. It looked to me like the kid was down for about 3 seconds before the ball came out?

hind-sight is 20-20. your sight is much less than that. katy won. sv put up one heck of a fight. kids on both sides did well. any argument?

Reread the post. It was foresight not hindsight. Fortunately for Katy it came to pass. A turnover was predicted by at least four serious fans whose opinions I highly value before the drive started and sure enough it happened.

I do agree, great effort by both teams. I have to give it to SV O-line for halftime adjustments. They really started pushing Katy around in the 3rd quarter.

Yep, the same kid that also made the game winning INT against SLC in the '03 title game as a Soph. ;)

That was a heck of a run too - I remember those Tully crowds for that one but I think this one sounds like it was even MORE crowded...if that's possible:p

BWJ I'm going to start calling you staypufft if you keep this up.
As for clarifying, the INT at the end of 2nd Q was a combo of bad route and proper read (1st time Katy sec made the right read on that play)
The fumble, he was down- but he fell on another player, I think ground and the player caused the fumble- have to see video to tell.

Staypufft is a brand of Marshmallow, (staypufft marshmallow man from ghostbusters?) um, getting those confused with tampons, dangerous- go talk to the health teacher, she can straighten things out for you.

Thanks Jake!! That's truly classy. I just know we will be back - I feel it in my bones!! Lots of talent and 14 starters returning and they will be even hungrier after that Katy game. Maybe we'll meet again next December! I'm still hoping that they put Katy on our preseason schedule.

You got the spelling right. He will be hard to replace he has been our kickoff guy and started in the secondary for three years. Some college is going to get a steal with this guy. Great kicker and big hitter. Would most likely play a safety at the college level.

Volz will be on the mound for the Baylor Bears and who knows maybe for the Astros:)
