To celebrate his 30th season as football coach at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Kevin Rooney has agreed to take his team on its first out-of-state trip. The Knights will open the 2009 season Sept. 7 in Texas as part of the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Series. Organizers are hoping to play four games at the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington.

Notre Dame's opponent will be either Southlake (Texas) Carroll or Spring (Texas) Klein Oak. With quarterback Ryan Kasdorf and four offensive line starters returning, the Knights ought to be able to put on an offensive show. But will Rooney's team be able to handle the Texas humidity?

That is a classic........but if it's at the new stadium........wassa problem? Humidity would be a problem if there was something not so working good regarding A/C. JJ could start this off like Red Auerbach at Boston Garden(just kidding). What's the record for distance drink shot out of nose? I'm pretty sure I just broke it. :laugh:laugh:laugh

It won't be Carroll, our schedule for '09 is set.

SLC

Not likely to be us...I know Trinity is playing Bingham (Utah) in the Texas Herbie...but not likely to be a Carroll game in it though.

This from the OldCoach in January....

There were rumors that Southlake Carroll and Arlington high schools had agreed to play outside opponents in the Herbstreit Challenge instead of each other (with Byrnes HS from SC meeting Southlake Carroll), but Dragons head coach Hal Wasson went 180 degrees by saying: "We only agreed to consider moving the game to the new stadium since it's a home game for Arlington, but Southlake Carroll is playing Arlington. End of story."

I know..I seen the date. And it would be very cool if we did play them. I just dont think they are correct in assuming it will be Carroll, because we dont have an available date on our schedule. I guess its more likely to be Spring playing them.

It'll be tougher if we play them at their house...but I think even then we will beat them pretty good...If its at a neutral site, it could be fairly ugly.

The Joeckel boys, an OL near 300lb across returning recievers and a pretty shifty young guy moving up to varsity at RB. A lot of returning guys................with smarts from last year too. That's some incentive.why are they better? details...please?

If I recall, that game had some nasty business, lots of personal fouls and waving at the stands...is that what you are referring to re: smarts? Or just the loss?

Don't know about the Joeckel boys, what's up there?

They made some bulletin board material of their own. Some hitting out of bounds, etc, and trash-talking the whole game. I'm up for good football, but you show who you are by how you play on the field, not by how 'bad' your mouth is. I'd like to see that game again, I missed the first part of it due to parking. Maybe I missed something...

Like to see the QB, hope the OL brother gets mad at his brother when we play 'em. :)

anyway, its all good. as long as it is clean and hard fought, I'm ok. Like seeing talent on the field.

And Peach Jr. has had made some derogatory remarks about Carroll previously.
The guys gets some air time and people around the state make him out to be a great coach. I do not get it. He has done nothing, his Dad has done nothing but managed to stay at a program long enough to get 300 wins. Took him forever.

It goes all the way back to playoffs 02 with the Finley's..Arlington just seems to get real out of control when they play Carroll..But it's all good...they have never been competitive with the Dragons, so they get pissed.
