Tech hasn't offered him, so I'm OK with that commitment.

Haha very nice. Quite a good pickup for tu today though. I'm quite pissed off the kid would name us as a leader and practically say he was upset about texas' recruiting techniques and then go and commit.

Why be pissed at all? Teenagers say one thing and do another all the time...I think my son just changed his mind about where he's going tonight 5 times while I'm typing this One thing about the recruiting business is that schools and kids are going to lie and probably lie alot before they decide to commit.

You just compared committing to go to a certain university to where one might go out on a Saturday night. Good call.

Hopkins said a couple of months ago that he would commit on the spot if Texas offered. Texas sent out the offers for the '10 class on Wed/Thur, he got his today and called Mack to commit. Really not a surprise.

Nice comeback SLC. I expected more from someone with a texas education but whatever. Just making your entire alumni base look bad tonight.

Doesn't Mack give out all his offers by hand in his office? Plus it's a fact that Hopkins was "given" his over the phone.

jtk, Whats the latest with that LB from Ohio? Hicks wasn't it?

Last I heard he was supposed to be at the first junior day tomorrow, but something about not being able to fly down so he's trying for the second junior day.

“I’ve been talking to my parents and I knew (Texas) is my dream school,” said Hopkins. “I’ve followed the program for a long time and I’ve loved Texas. My mom was really impressed with the academics so that was big.”

Hopkins (click here for database page), currently ranked No. 33 on the Inside Texas 2010 Top 100, went to Austin with his parents last week to get a closer look at the campus.

“We took the visit last week just to get comfortable with the campus and to talk to the coaches and everything,” said Hopkins. “They never said anything about an offer but all that was said was that they weren’t going to offer anyone until after Signing Day.”

“I knew that if they offered, that was the school I was going to commit to,” said Hopkins. “Coach (Mac) McWhorter had been recruiting me but today Coach (Oscar) Giles is the coach who called me. I mainly talked to him and Coach (Mack) Brown today.”

The fact that Hopkins, an offensive lineman that could play either tackle or guard at the next level, is the Horns’ first commitment of the 2010 class means that he might be the only take at the position in this cycle. Texas is very deep with young talent in the trenches, especially after adding four offensive linemen in the 2009 class.

Hopkins said he has been aware of the Horns’ situation with offensive line recruiting for quite some time and was worried that he might not get the call from Texas. But in the end, he is happy Texas found a place for him to be a member of the class that will sign on the dotted line just under 12 months from now.

“I was getting that feeling (that Texas might not take any linemen in 2010),” said Hopkins. “But as soon as they offered I was just so happy, I was really excited.”

“Texas is my dream school, and I knew they were short on spots,” Hopkins added. “But I’m just happy that they thought enough of me to offer.”

Sometimes people put more thought into minute things than major decisions.
