There are a lot Texas high schools being represented in this game. Judson kids, Katy kids, SLC kid....I recognize a lot of the names. No wonder they are doing so good. They have good kids on the team.

WTH was Texas St. coach thinking. tied with 1:15 seconds left at the 22 and they have 3 timeouts and the opposition has 0 and what do they do. kneel 3 times and run out of the clock to play for ot?? WTH?? That is wacked. Even the players were pissed?

all that for naught, they gave up the win at the end.
with 1:27 left on the clock, tx state had the ball on their own 40 and elected to kneel it to snd it to overtime, in over time state stopped uni and only gave them a feild goal. state on offense drove to their own 15 and on 3 and 10 barrick nealy threw an int.
shouldve used your high powered O tx state and at least gotten the feild goal to win it, but you left it to chance, way too conservative for a playoff game.

Wow, I think I just witnessed an Offense run a Prevent Defense. Good lord, what a stupid thing to do, especially at home.
Idiot move. At least if you're going for it with 1:38 left, an INT while falling to the ground doesn't beat you. :)

David Bailiff is gonna here about it for a long, long time. I've never seen such a blatant lack of confidence in one's own offense in my life, and they had perhaps the best O in div 1- AA. State needs to get some DB's for cryin out loud, 2 - 1 play TD scores in back to back quarters and from then on the DB's were getting picked on for the rest of the game, awful, just awful.
Might I suggest a former Strong Safety with one year of eligibility left?:D

He played not to lose.... So he lost.
Give him credit for turning program around.

Well there are 2 sides to this story. I agree with what he did.
1. you throw a pick or a fumble give UNI good field position and they kick the FG to win the game.
2. you play for the tie and take your chances in OT. I think that was a smart choice.
3. If he would have gone for it and he would have thrown a pick. lots of people would be saying why not sit on it and take your chance in OT. so he was in a WIN LOOSE situation.
So i think he did what was right in the end they played a great game it was so fun to watch.

very good point but State hadn't thrown a pick or fumbled throughout the entire game so why not go for it, especially when your offense is rolling?

I was saying it was a stupid move at the time. Them losing justifies it.
They were on the 25 I believe. Had over a minute left. 3 timeouts. UNI had 0 timeouts. Their kicker had hit one from 50 yards this year. Bonehead decision.

You are 100% completely off base. I didn't see the game because I'm in Kyrgyzstan, but I'll tell you what I've learned from the past 30 years.
A prevent defense prevents you from winning.
Playing not to lose makes you lose.
Playing for overtime is a 50/50 proposition.
I would've been throwing stuff if I'd watched that game. That's pure garbage to not play for a win when he had the chance to win. The coaches that win titles are always the guys who take calculated chances.
Pack98, I've seen too many teams lose playing like you suggest to know it doesn't work. You almost always get beat playing that way.

I'm sure he'll try to explain it away, but there's nothing he can do to change how they feel. They're going to be mad that he did that and he told his team he didn't believe in them without saying a word.

That's exactly what I was thinking when he did that. By doing that he told his offense that he didn't have any confidence in them...without saying a word!
Pack98, It was wrong man.

Texas St had 3 time outs left in the game with almost 1:30 left in the game. N. Iowa went into a prevent defense with about 5 db's 15 and more yards down field.
why didnt he take a couple of shots at running the ball ???? Maybe one of the RB's breaks a run down to midfield and gives Texas St a legit shot at taking a couple of passing shots down field to get into FG range.
It was totally 100% BS that the Texas St coach decided to "take knee's" and go into OT.
I give the guy credit. He got Texas St to the "Final four" but that was a major "bonehead" coaching decision he made. He'll regret that for the rest of his life because it was a bigtime "screw up."
When you do that. You basically tell your players to "play flat" and it totally pumps up the other team.

Also..... "Never go for 2 pts unless you're in the 4th QT !!" That also cost Texas St the game.
IF they would of kicked that XP instead of going for 2 in the early 3rd QT. Texas St probably wins that game by 1 pt.

Exactly. I couldnt believe they went for two with EIGHT MINUTES to go in the THIRD QUARTER! What an idiot.
