2 fans ready to cheer Pack after wreck
The Lufkin Daily News
Thursday, December 08, 2005
Two more Lufkin Panther fans are ready to cheer their team this weekend after surviving a one-car rollover following last Friday night's regional title game in Waco.
It was the second one-vehicle rollover in the wee hours of Saturday morning involving Panther football fans returning to Lufkin, with both accidents caused when the driver fell asleep.
The second accident occurred on state Highway 7 between Crockett and Kennard when 21-year-old Alicia Richardson dozed off. Both Richardson and her passenger, 16-year-old Keshia Hartsfield, a student at LHS, were taken by ambulance to a Crockett hospital where they were treated and released.
A relative said the two fans' injuries were minimal, and that the accident would not keep them from Saturday's 5A state semifinals to cheer on the Panthers versus Southlake Carroll in Nacogdoches.
The first accident involving Panther fans occurred in Leon County near Centerville as a pickup ran off the road and flipped near the Trinity River bridge. Three Panther fans were injured in that accident, and two remain hospitalized.
In both instances, the drivers said they fell asleep and the vehicles drifted off the roadway.
I hope everybody has a safe trip to and from the game. SLC fans be careful with the weather conditions.

I did not know this while arguing about the stadium. I apologize for all comments made about it and system of picking the stadium. In my mind there was no stadium that Outlaw could pick, because of this tragedy. Once again I apologize and will keep those in the accidents in my prayers.
Myself like many LP fans had worried about that trip home & that everyone would make it home safe. My family made it back safe from Waco. But Tuesday morning my son was going to AC. As he crossed HWY 59 by the Pentecostal Camp ground. A 18 wheeler ran a red light (brakes went out). This truck & trailer came out of no place. His car struck the tractors back wheels head on. .25 seconds earlier or later he's not here any more. The car is totaled, which I could care less. Every parents nightmare is something like this. Thank God I still have another day with him! Please be carefull out there!

Thank God he's ok LP78 - and all fans injured will make it. All fans and parents really need to take every precaution to get home safely - but some things like the 18 wheeler are not avoidable.

Now THIS post shows class. Thanks for reminding us that people CAN find a way to get along, in spite of differences.

thirty minutes later?
A big prayer TC that your son is okay. These two accidents on the return trip has been on a lot folks mind this week. It looks as if they are going to be okay, but that was not the news at first. Many prayers sent up for these kids this week. I've made every trip this year with the kids as a chap on one of the buses. On the way up there and back if I said it once I said it 20 times how dangerous that road was and hoped we didn't have to go down it again. ( I go nuts if I'm not driving so I made sure the bus driver stayed awake) Several sections of it is under construction with no shoulder and dang near two lane the whole 3 hours. Add that to late at night and you can see how these unforunate accidents happened. Thank goodness they will be okay.
You folks have a safe trip down. At least you have good roads and mostly 4 lane. And when you come to a little town called Wells, slow down! It's a one horse town that survives on speeding tickets. And they don't care where you're from!
(a one horse town means that it only takes one horse to pull the fire wagon)

we had a young girl at carroll this last summer get into a very bad car wreck. two other girls were in the car. they were all volleyball players. the other two had minor injuries, but the other was in serious condition. she has made GREAT progress, better than the doctors anticipated. she missed the entire volleyball season, and will probably have to repeat her senior year because she has not been able to attend school. she's been coming to more and more school events, and it is great to see her there, it means a lot to everyone and even the players. hopefully she'll be there on saturday to see a great game. im glad to hear these lufkin girls are okay, because its tragic to hear about these kinds of things happening.
