Nice try!:D The 2002 Lufkin-SLC game. There was a certain play I wanted to see. There's nothing to see with stealing signals, but I'll watch that, too.

I probably won't be engaging in many "MY DADDY CAN WHOOP YOUR DADDY" type exchanges. I'm just here to enjoy the atmosphere and learn about the teams. Good luck to both teams on Saturday, wish I could be there.:o

Yes, you burned me. It's not too often that my comments are turned on me. I could've made a comeback, but decided to give an honest answer. It's not too often that I don't have a comeback and I usually say them. I just chose not to this time.

I hate to have to explain this, but, basically when two kids have a disagreement and they want to fight about it but really don't intend to..... then one kid commonly says "I'm gonna tell my Daddy!" which invokes the other kid to say "Oh yeah.. go ahead..cause MY DADDY CAN WHOOP YOUR DADDY'S @$$!"

To me, thats what is sounds like when posters who disagree are always saying, "My team is the greatest, and your team sucks, and my team is gonna whoop your team's @$$ cause..........".

You get the picture.:)

I thought I posted this somewhere but I guess I hit the wrong button. Anyway, I watched the game (last years LP/SLC semi) last night for the first time since right after the game last year. I have it on tape and just decided to watch it last night for some reason. Getting geared up I guess. One thing I noticed right off the bat was how LP was dragging around. Somewhat being lathargic in their actions. I'm thinking maybe the Longview game just took too much out of them and they didn't fully recover before taking on Pflugerville. By the time they got to this game they were just exhausted. Even though they played a whale of a game, I wonder what if they had had and easier road and had played SLC a little fresher. Anyway, if a frog had wings!!!!!!!
My point is, this Lufkin team this year is faster than greased lightening and I didn't really realize just how fast until I saw last years team. I don't know if it is talent, better conditioning, or a combination of both, but without question this team is fast. With that, my biased opinion that LP will win this Saturday is starting to take on a more objective viewpoint based on what I've seen this year. I have seen all 14 games that LP has played this year but I've only seen 2 games for SLC. For me it is hard to judge speed when two teams are going head to head unless there is just an outstanding display and then you still wonder if he is just faster or is the guy chasing just average. I've yet to see a Panther run down from behind (may have happened but I don't think so) but I have seen many oposition run down. I really don't know what all this means other than this years Pack team is lights out faster than last years team and with many of the same players. Another difference might be that the talent is spread out amongst the whole team and not just 3 or 4 on both sides of the ball. Could this make the difference this Saturday I don't know, but it will be something to watch for.

Well there is no dobut that both teams were good last year and to some extent probably better this year.

I can tell you after watching my boys go down last Saturday how impressed I was with SLC in all aspects of the game. I was especially impressed with how poised they were eventhough Plano lead through the 3rd quarter. Most teams would have folded at that point but they seemed to have an extra gear or two and really put it in drive when Plano was seemingly tired in the late 3rd and 4th.

They made key adjustments and never gave up. Honestly I do not know who will win, I have not seen Lufkin play this year. I think we will see how key your starting QB was to this team this year and if your backup can have the game of his life.

If I were betting this game straight up I would have to put my coin on SLC, that is not to say that Lufkin is bad, but I think loosing your starting QB the week before a game like this puts you at a severe disadvantage no matter how much your fans put a positive spin on your backup i.e. "He is just as good" and whatever else you may claim.

The fact is the head of your team has been cut off and no matter how good a back-up is there has not been the reps, there has not been the pressure and so much on the line.

Perhaps a miracle will happen, perhaps this will be the coming out party for a QB on the rise, but I am afraid there will not be any fairy tales this week.

Maybe I am more optomistic than you, you are probably surprised especially coming from a Plano fan.

I got be honest everyone down plays an injury like that and I feel for the Lufkin team and QB, but its like taking Tom Brady away before going to the big dance.

Their starting QB is out that has to hurt and unless Lufkin is an all-running team, which they are not, then I would probably not think blow out.

They are going to have a back-up QB in what is one of the biggest games of the year that has to throw the ball in order to win this game. He is going to make mistakes, rightfully so as he has not had the reps this year. Your defense is going to capitalize on this and thats why I think this will be a blow out not a shut out but a blow out!

Good response because I know you 've seen the green machine up close and personal. I'm not discounting that having Jeromy out is not something to htink about, but it is not that often you have as good of talent standing there to step in. We'll just have to see how this one plays out. I for one will not use this as an excuse if SLC does win. Ralph may be pulling the trigger now but he is a small piece of the weopon.

It can either be a positive or a negative depending on how you look at it, but the back up quarterback for Lufkin has been starting all season so he does have game experience. The negative about that is they will also be losing a receiver as well as a quarterback

No matter the outcome I think this will be an AWESOME game.
I kinda wish lufkin or us was region 3/4, so this could be the state game.
My prediction (thought biased) is that the winner of this game will go on to win state, and deserves it (no offense SV/Katy).

Ralph is one of the best all around athletes i have seen. That being said it does not help with the inexperience at qb part. Claybon's loss was big there is not question but i think Ralph is very capable. Thad Gordon 6'3 wr is finally 100 percent after a high ankle sprain. He was the starter at the beginning of the year. He made a huge catch on a Thomas throw last week. Gordon is very athletic and that will put 2 big wr's on the outside along with Dez. speed will be in the slot's with Rains and Shankle. I have no idea how Ralph is going to do and i do not think anybody really does? We just know he is a extremely talented athlete (great wr also) that is very competitive.

Losing our starting quarterback definitely hurts going into this game. But the good news is that he didn't play defense. Losing an offensive player is not going to slow down the Pack defense a step. SLC will still have to play lights out offense to win. One way or the other, I expect this game to come down to the last snap of the game just like the two before it. I'd be really surprised to see a blow-out in either direction.

ALLIN
12-09-2005, 01:52 PM
SLC will get there normal 30-40 points on Lufkin, with or without everyone on defense (are they missing a LB for this game). Lufkin will not stop SLC as much as SLC will stop them IMHO! SLC wins.....not easily by any means, but easier than the last 2 meetings.

I hate to break it to you, but you lost maybe your most important player on offense. That is a big deal, but your replacement may be great, but then you have to replace him who is your second most productive receiver. You lost a quarterback and a receiver with that injury. It is not overboard.

There has been a hushed sense of optimism around town here this week. Folks around town think the media and others are making too much of Lufkin losing the starting QB.

We know what we have in our Lufkin Panthers. They are a bunch of kids with a never say die attitude. They are not playing to make to game respectable. They will be coming for the win.

One of my coworker's son is on the JV (scout team). His son said he has never seen Lufkin more focused than this week and the varsity is hitting the scout teamers harder in practice this week than ever before.

He said Claybon has been with Thomas the whole week giving him pointers on checks and reads.

Claybon had a great quote in the newspaper the other day, "I hope they don't think we are just gonna down like some punk!"

Things are just fine here in the Panther Nation.
