My dad sent me an e-mail from one of his lawyer friends. It is regards to the Stella Awards.
If you're not familiar with these, the Stella Awards are named after
81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and
successfully sued the McDonald's in New Mexico where she purchased the
coffee. These are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in
the U.S.

To spare you the other nine here is the 1st place winner.

This year's runaway First Place Stella Award winner was Mrs. Merv
Grazinski, of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma , who purchased a new 32-foot
Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, from an OU football game,
having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and
calmly left the driver's seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make
herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway,
crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued
Winnebago for not putting in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually
leave the driver's seat while the cruise control was set. The Oklahoma
jury awarded her, are you sitting down, $1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home.
Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in
case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home.

The underlying question to the thread is smart or dumb?

I say dumb for both...dumb for her of course and dumb for the jury who awarded her such a victory in court.

For all we know, she might be a fan of college football in general or a fan of their opponent. I drove to an OU game in November and nobody accuses me of being a fan, although I get weekly emails from the Sooners and have since 2006!

I say dumb for the people who believe this was a real lawsuit.

I bet someone is posting the same thing on a Sooner message board and changing the home state to Texas. Quickly, someone find it!

Story is almost as far-fetched as OU going -0-5 in bcs games - 0-3 in title games. Crazy talk.
