It's no secret that SMU has shown interest in Minden linebacker Byron Brown for several months now. In fact, the Mustangs had the hardest time tracking down the speedy defender to begin with.
Brown could be the final commitment in SMU's 2009 commitment class.
"This is a crazy story," said Brown. "Coach Jeff Reinebold had heard from several coaches about me but he couldn't find me. One day I was coming out from watching game film and he introduced himself to me and said he was going begin recruiting me and telling me about SMU."
As the fall went on, 6-foot-0, 198-pound prospect began learning more about the Conference USA program. In December, Brown took an official visit to the Hilltop.
"I was doing a lot of research on them and my coaches were telling them that it's a great academic place. That's what I'm in it for, my academics."
It was after that visit in which Brown fell in love with the Mustangs. The only problem was that with a 2009 class almost completely full, SMU was running out of scholarships.
