Hey, Lonny...are you in for the night? What is the AFB doing about tomorrow morning?
Just wondering. We are just south of the freeze line for tonight, but tomorrow looks like we will get hit later in the day.
It is 55 and FOGGY (like soup) according to the weather station in my back yard.

No it was bad! :D We hadn't had rain like that in my lifetime living here in Lubbock and that day water was everyhere! I had to get out of the city to head to Round Rock for a trip and I got out in time. The water just kept getting worse at East U.S. 84 and I probably wouldn't have been able to leave if I hadn't left earlier. Luckily, the current drainage system was a huge improvement from what we had and the ground was able to absord the excess water well (it's been kinda dry here).

Did you see Slide north of 82nd? The two playa lakes on either side were just engulfing the road. Slide was only two lanes, the turning and the the southbound.

Saw pics of it...didn't go to southwest Lubbock that day. If this had happened about ten yrs ago then that water would have stayed there for weeks if not a couple of months. The drainage in South Lubbock is good compared to what it was back then.

I was about to post our weather. It's been miserable since Friday afternoon. Friday started off OK and was probably about 40 with somewhat calm winds and we actually ran outside and it was somewhat fun running 3 miles. About 4 P.M. the wind start rolling in and the temperature dropped. It might've been 40, but the wind was at least 25-30 MPH.
I never went outside on Saturday because the temperature never got above 30 and the wind was blowing all day.
I think the high on Sunday was 35 and it was another day where I didn't take care of stuff outside that I wanted to do.
We had freezing rain from the time it hit midnight today until now and it's going to continue all day tomorrow. There's some chance of sleet. It's 28 right now and they think the wind has calmed back down to 9, but it's been at least 15-20 pretty much all day and it feels like it's colder than a wind chill of 22. It will be cold all day tomorrow and is supposed to be 17 on Wednesday morning. It's supposed to warm up some during the day on Wednesday, but it will still be cold in the mornings the rest of the week.
I was driving back on base from 287 about 9:20 and saw a bad wreck. I saw a SUV that had smashed the inside retaining wall on the front and back and was missing the left rear tire and maybe another one. Further up the road was a 2 trailer UPS truck that was flipped over. The medics were attending to a person when I drove by.
Some of the schools around here are cancelled and some are reporting from 9:30 to 10:30, but we're supposed to show up at 9:00. The funny thing about everytime we're supposed to show up at 9:00, the weather is never better than in we were there at 7:30 or 8:00 because it's always on days where the temperature doesn't get above freezing or barely gets above it, but never at 9!:D
I wish I was in for the night. I'm back at work taking care of stuff.

My parking lot is closed off tomorrow at Tech, because there is a large radio tower there that is likely building icicles on it. It's not just the tower but the support cables that hold it up. If it warms up enough then the icicles could break off. I guess they don't want falling icicles to fall on vehicles or even worse, people.

Well, be careful. WF looked like the epicenter as far as the storm's tendency to stall this time. Looks like you are in the area where the storm seems to be getting more widespread everytime the radar shows it moving. Wednesday afternoon does look like the warming trend will begin, though. Good news for all of North Texas.

Very true. I would trade though. Rather have more rain than wind and dirt.
The sandstorms in June sucked something awful! It was over 100 degrees each day from the last day of May and first four days of June. During the day the wind was blowing 40-50 MPH. Dust everywhere and sweltering heat.

Yeah, the weather radar shows a bunch of trash covering Wichita County on its way to the East. Our weather is generally predictable. Whatever the winter temperature is at my parents house in Longview, I know it will be 15-20 degrees colder in Wichita Falls. If I'm in San Antonio during the winter and heading back to Wichita Falls and it's like 50 down there, I know it will be around 40 by time I get back to Hico and in the low 30's in Wichita Falls. I leave SA without a coat, but I put one on or a hoodie when I get to Hico because I know I'll see cold and wind by time I get home. It doesn't usually get severely cold here in the winter, but most days it's going to be just cold enough and just windy enough to irritate you when it's dark.

A cold front here is pretty much always means a wind chill between 20-25, even in the middle of the day. That's the part that irritates me about the early release and late arrival. They want us to come in a 9 when everybody else in town is reporting late, but the conditions never get better on those late reporting days, so why do we even show up at all? Besides, City View ISD is closed tomorrow and I live about 200 feet from the high school entrance and I'm thinking about telling the boss I shouldn't show up since it's so bad where I live!:p My van fish-tailed a little this morning when I was turning on my street after coming back from exercising. There's no telling what it's like now.

The military has red and black road conditions for sandstorms. Red is mission-essential travel only and black is pretty much drive off base for life and death only. The last time I was in Kuwait, we had some guys stuck in place off base for about 27 hours. They couldn't come home and we couldn't replace them. Our Captain lied one time when we were close to the Iraq border about where we were going so we didn't get stuck and could drive back home. They actually call on the phone to get the weather conditions from locations all over the country when deciding to declare red and black and it jams up trucks and buses for the whole country. Iraq has the same problems.

I was on 287 talking to my dad on the phone when all the people around me hit the brakes because the cops were trying to get people to drive slower to ease the wreck cleanup. That UPS truck driver might be OK, but I don't see how the SUV passengers got out without severe injuries. I just wonder if the driver hit the wall first with the front or the back end. Hitting the wall flush head-on is what killed Dale Earnhardt and those kind of collisions have always been the most dangerous in auto racing.

I slept all day since I stayed up all night. They cancelled work for the whole base today.
It's 22 right now, but I'm still driving to Dallas for the Stars game.
Conditions are horrible here. It took like 10 minutes to scrape the ice off my van and 287 was terrible. After the accident I saw last night, I saw a truck jacknife on 287 today. The paper has stories about bad wrecks and deaths on 287. For the first time in my life, weather has been bad enough to keep me from going to a sporting event. Rain, hail, sleet, snow, and ice had never stopped me before, but I wasn't going to mess with this stuff tonight. They've already said don't show up at work until 10 tomorrow and I think it's going to be later. Even at like 30 MPH, the ice tries to make you fishtail on 287.

So cold...that I'm taking the beers out of the walk-in fridge...and putting them on the garage floor...just to turn off the walk-in...and save America...by not using that electricity...
It's like inflating your tires...:D

Hey, you've got a wind chill of 27. Wichita Falls has a 13 wind chill right now and our low temperature is supposed to be 11.
I turned the heat down into the low to mid 60's a few days ago and I'm wearing a hockey jersey and coat to stay warm.

I thought I'd check the wind chills of the other places I've been stationed in the Air Force:
Colorado Springs, CO (I might be headed here soon) 11 wind chill and clear
Anchorage, AK 23 wind chill and overcast
Dover, DE 26 wind chill with snow
San Antonio, TX 29 wind chill with drizzle
Pusan, South Korea 52 and cloudy with 6 MPH winds
It's not even as bad on my deployments. Kuwait and Qatar are in the 50's and 60's respectively. Afghanistan has a wind chill of about 25 and Kyrgyzstan, which is further north and gets a fair amount of snow is also 25.
The only place the Air Force has sent me that's colder than Wichita Falls right now is good 'ol Galena, AK on the banks of the Yukon River. Their wind chill is -38 right now. I was there to close the base in 1993.
