They will probably be as good, but it will be hard for them to be as dominant as they have been. Even if Dodge was there it would be hard for them to be as dominant as they have been for the past 4 years. With that said, Carroll has been to the most playoff games over the past 20 years and has one of the highest winning percentages. Winning at Carroll has occured long before Coach Dodge got there

i think that with the loss of there offensive genius and losing all the seniors to graduation will largely affect there chances to win it all next year. im sure any coach in the state would be drooling over the chance to go to such football community.

Defense gets more recognition but winning continues. Maybe not as many in a row but will remain a sucessful program.;)

Dodge wont leave until his son is out of there anyways. He's going to make sure his son is groomed into a D-1 prospect and gets a scholarship, and then I think Dodge will consider leaving.

If Dodge leaves, Carroll has the potential to get an even better coach, making them more dominant. Its not Dodge that makes Carroll great...it is everything else. What was his record as a coach before Carroll? Wasn't it somewhere near .500.

I feel that Coach Dodge has created a system that should be in place for a while. I think that the thing that might hurt SLC is Graduating seniors.

Well, every team has graduating senior. The 02 team graduated plenty of seniors. 03 waqs supposed to be a rebuilding year. All they did was go to the state final again. The 04 team graduated plenty as well. None the less, the 05 team is 1 away from another state final. Not saying we are disrespecting Lufkin, you have to beat Lufkin to get to another state final. Bottom line: tradition doesn't graduate, seniors do. It is all part of the high school experience. Enjoy your kids while you still have them.

Carroll never graduated 52 seniors before. Yes people graduate every year, but you can go ask Abilene what it is like to graduate over 50

Maybe whoever succeeds Dodge can take the Staff and go visit Alex Robbins at Middle Tennessee State, Dodge's buddy that taught Dodge the system that SLC uses today.

the next kids to play will all have gone through "the system", so we just "plug and chug"

I thought the term "tradition doesn't graduate" came from a Lufkin posters signature sometime back??

If Dodge leaves then Carroll will struggle next year. If he leaves with his son we're in trouble, because his replacement is a freshman this year.

Dodge wouldn't do that to Riley, he's prepared for this his whole life, he won't leave until after Riley is graduated and if he does leave i'd guess OC at Texas or HC @ a small college..... maybe coaching Riley again?!

Southlake has over 800 kids in pee-wee football ALL DREAMING to become a Dragon in High School . . . In my opinion - a great team is not about just a great coach (although Dodge would be missed TERRIBLY), its about having a "Teachable Spirit" as a player and the right attitude. You perform better the more you have to work at something. Kids in Southlake work 8 years just to get to be a "Freshman Dragon".
I think the Dragons would take a temporary hit, but I don't think Dodge would leave "high and dry" I'm sure he'll have someone very capable to hand the reins over to.
Just my opionion

Dodge is the hs version of Charlie Weiss to me - he may not be the best in all aspects, he just has the best offensive call every time. Rest assured Joel Armstrong - qb from Longview - would love to see him there. Then you start wondering - would he bring one or more of his own qb's wr's with him? And, could he get Luna to play? Lots of possibilities.

Fav, I was thinking today and for some reason just clicked on something..have you ever noticed how similar the Indy Colts & Dragons look on offense..The Dragons have had the "Indy" hurry up pkg for a while, but I never thought about how similar they look...I think Coach Dodge studies them...

You and I are thinking alike this week. I was listening to Troy Aikman/Dan Patrick on ESPN radio and Dan stated the Colts practices are something to behold - very minimal conversation - just running the plays in real serious, quick fashion with no huddling - ever. I was thinking the Dragon practices look alot like that I bet.

I'll bet the SLC boosters could ante up enough to keep him there. I would hate to get in a bidding war with the SLC boosters if I were Rice.

I don't know why I never connected the dots..I don't watch Indy all that much, but it is just like watching the Carroll offense...the way Manning jumps back & forth talking to the linemen, looking around, is just like McElroy...
