we heard the speech in the lecture class and when that old guy came out blabbing a bunch of stuff. The moment he said that the lecture erupted in laughter and people just popped open photoshop left and right and captioned that guy.

Here's the whole quote. I was listening to the radio at lunch and there were quite a few people angry about the comment (the last part):

"We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right,"

I'm part Choctaw - My grandmother and her siblings were 3/4 Choctaw and I never saw a red man among them - just high cheekbones!

while i dont agree with that, i believe in equality and freedom for all and feel people should have to work hard if they want to get around. I did honestly laugh i thought he was trying to rap for a second.

I agree - everyone should have equal opportunities. I don't qualify for all the freebies so I have to work hard for everything I own or intend to own. I see many others doing the same thing and to those of us who have "stuff" or are fairly successful in life (no matter the race), it is usually well-deserved. But there are many others (of all races) who feel they need to do as little as possible to get by because everything will be handed to them. My younger sister is one who does nothing and, therefore, has nothing and my sisters and I have no pity on her nor do we give her anything. If she at least tried to get by without living off of others or at least got a job making a living, then we would be more understanding.

I took what he said with a grain of salt - possibly he was trying to be humorous?? Why, though, do all the "troubles" always fall on the backs of the whites? I truly hope Obama does make all of us reassess the situation and that by the time he leaves, we are all the better for it. I hope he is truthful in being the President of ALL the people. It remains to be seen for me.

As a person who's both white and Chickasaw, I'm rather offended that he thought I couldn't get ahead and didn't know what was right. :p
