Who cares. It can't happen this year. Why can't we forget about hypotheticals and focus on the matchups that will be occurring

i think lufkins speedy defense would not shutdown, but hold dimitri, forcing them to pass, which is not what they're good at. i say lufkin

I think with 38 seconds left on the clock in a driving rainstorm, the Lufkin quarterback throws a pass ...sorry just reliving one of the greatest games I have ever seen.:p :p

U can't forget to add the bogus pass interference call before the touchdown pass :D . Don't worry I'm not gonna b*tch about, besides I've already accepted that as a a fact. Anyways, the 2005 trojans are at least 2 touchdowns better than the 2001 version, but r the 2005 panthers better than their championship counterparts?

Another good ball game. Too bad Trinity was D1. I'd like to see Trinity play teams like Lufkin, Southlake, Plano, rather than El Paso school for skinny kids, a 4 loss Fossil Ridge team ...get my drift. D1 continues to have the lower ranked teams in their bracket. Next year will be even worse with 4 teams per district going to the playoffs. Can you imagine a 2-8 team getting in? It's possible with a 6 team district.

actually division one will be harder next year with four teams making the playoffs. In the current system only 1/3 of the teams go D1 which makes it on average only have 1/3 of the top teams. They will also have more teams hopefully making only it a 50-50 split on the top teams

Yeah it would be a great game, in their only matchup it was a classic, and in my opinion that is still Reggie's best indivual performance  LOL. I love the new attacking nature Lufkin's defense has shown this year. And I think the Lufkin offense WILL surprise early vs. Southlake but can they play well for 4 quarters.

Not sure I agree with that. Adding a 4th team further waters down the playoffs. Sure 2 teams will go to D1 and D2. Let's say SLC, Ridge, Haltom, and GV make it next year. SLC and GV go to D2 and Haltom and Ridge go D1. I have a hard time believing that Haltom and Ridge will be better than SLC. No offense to Ridge and Haltom but the past 4 years SLC has dominated district play (10-0 for 4 years in a row). Hard to think the others will have caught up that much next year for SLC to be the third best team in district.

I watched both Lufkin (v. Copperas Cove) and Trinity (v. A&M Consolidated) this past week...it would be a very good game. Lufkin's offense executes the screen better than high school team that I've seen in a long time and Trinity's offense runs between the tackles better than any team I've seen this year. Both defenses have speed to stop the perimeter running game.

My3sons, your point about beating Haltom and Ridge the last 4 years is a joke. Who hasn't SLC beat the last 4 years. Talk all you want about D-I. I think if you reverse the roles and put the 2 largest teams in D-I and the smallest in D-II you'd have the same outcome.

Who cares!! Trinity has had a cakewalk in the playoffs!! They have not played anyone near as good as the teams in division II Region One. That is where the real men are!! They better not blow it and lay an egg against an outmatched Marshall!!!!!
SLC would still beat Trinity and it would be a serious spanking!!

You still havent played anyone! You guys would have never got a lead on SLC. Plano had an overall good secondary where as SLC would have made toast out of yours!! I was at the Trinity/IMAC game & your secondary had IMAC receivers streeking wide open but the IMAC quarterback was a horrible passer & could'nt hit the side of a barn with a pass!!

I think the real question is: If you took the SLC O line and put them with the rest of the LP O, had the Trinity D line and with the rest made of from Longview and had the special teams from Abilene. Had them practice together for 2 weeks, would they be able to beat that team from Ohio?

Ok so let Lufkin and Judson go prepare for these games. Then SLC go showup to play Judson and Trinity to play Lufkin. I would say swap uniforms but that could be embarrassing for some. I am not sure what the Trojans would look like with bleached hair anyway. I think SLC could do a whole Devo thing with the HAKA. Looking to the coach.

remember when Irving MacArthur played neck and neck with Trinity the entire game. I think they should be called Trinity Lite for being from the same district and being a co-champion. Remember what Carroll did to them.

Give me a break!! Lufkin has been much better since 2001 and has a much better record and has accomplished much more in the playoffs since that game in 2001 compared to Trinity. NO comparison at all. The closest we could come to this since both teams had several returning starters is go by last year. Tyler Lee won the div1 championship last year correct. Lufkin beat Lee by 10. I know I know Trinity beat them at home with half Lee's defense in the regular season barely. Lee got healthy and whupped them come playoff time correct?? Besides Trinity has a loss this year to SGP they are not undefeated. Who cares anyway and why did this topic get started?? I know Trinity is a very good team this year but so is Lufkin and this game is not going happen so why bother.

This was discussed in another thread. If you look at Jerry's Texas Football Rating on http://www.texasfootballratings.com/. Celina has a rating score of 176.42. If this score is transposed into the 5A category, Celina would rank at#48. However, the next 20 ranked teams lower than 48 are the following :-
Cy Falls
Leander
Houston Madison
The Woodlands
Beaumont West Brook
Victoria Memorial
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo
Lake Highlands
Denton Ryan
DeSoto
Lubbock Monterey
North Mesquite
Mesquite
Garland Rowlett
Pasadena Dobie
San Antonio Churchill
San Antonio Marshall
Grapevine
Humble
Houston Memorial
I do not see Celina beating Grapevine for example. I think Celina would be ranked at about 150, with Arlington Lamar, Arlington Martin, Lakeview Centennial, Houston Bellaire and Hurst Bell ranked 151 through 155.

Listen to all of you Lufkin folks!! Give me a second if you can. Lineweaver still to this day loses sleep over the 2001 game. We needed about 7 freaking inches on 4th down with 1:15 left in the game in the driving rain and he punted. Reggie took them the final 40 yards to score the winner. If we make the 1st down (and why he didn't go for it?????) all this talk is for naught and we run out the clock and win. This was a one of the worse coaching decisions I can recall. We had Reggie on his back the whole 1st half, and the COACHES decide not to pressure him in the 2nd half. coaches, coaches!!!!!!

I disagree with this whole statement. I can tell u FOR A FACT the Caoch Lineweaver doesnt dwell on that game. A coach can't when he talks about the 2001 year he always reflects on it in a positive light. Because he knew he would have some other special teams that would be even better as result of the experience we gained in '01. Now I will personally say at the time I felt like we should go for it, but I now understand that he was placing faith in the unit that had performed best all year. I can also tell u for a fact that none of the players, deep down fault that decision for why we lost. We attribute to a) a BOGUS pass interference call, and b)Reggie was good. What changed from the first half to the second half, was the lufkin coaching staff seem to restrict him to the pocket, and forced him to pass. They underestimated how good our defense was initially. But then in the second they allowed the fastest player on the field to run at will.

That game was a great game and could have went either way. I gained a lot of respect for the Trinity program after watching that game. Trinity is a very good program. But regardless, Lufkin has been clearly better since that 2001 win. Didn't Trinity even miss the playoffs recently or am i wrong?? The only thing that has stopped Lufkin from winning 3 titles in the last 4 years was the #1 team in the nation and both games went to the final seconds. Yall went deep last year but our east texas brother's took care of you and they went on to win it all. Lufkin beat that same team by double digits. I do not know who would win this year but SGP beat Trinity and they were gone by the 2nd round in the "div2" playoffs. ;)

First Trinity has not missed the playoffs since 1997. Second no one compared the programs since 2001. This came as a result of my comments that that 2005 Trinity team is at least 2 touchdowns better than its 2001 counterpart. I than asked the question is the 2005 Lufkin team at least 2 touchdowns better than its 2001 counterpart? This is a total fantasy matchup anyways, however it does seems like the DFW area is this year's top region. By the way I as well everybody around the state has plenty of respect for the Lufkin program and its consistent level of excellence. Good luck on Saturday and everybody is looking forward to a competitive contest vs Southlake.

Even though they have 1 loss Trinity is probably the 1st or 2nd best team in the state as far as a complete team goes.(actually 2nd, because no question that SLC is #1 till proven otherwise). Especially with Lufkin's QB out. Leadership takes a huge dropoff.
