Some of you talk about the "glory days" of the Yard. I know I didn't have to concern myself with locking threads or issuing bans nearly as much back then because people actuallly managed to have fun with the board without taking it completely off the deep end.

Those pictures in question represent a very small minority of the pictures posted here. If you want to ban people, then ban the people who post those kinds of pictures. That will solve that problem. But for as long as I can remember, pictures like this have been okay...

The challenge with an OT board that has no real driven discussion point is people have a tendency to take things too far, and that's what ruins the fun that might be had otherwise.

We've seen it on this board with the pictures. We've also seen it with controversial discussion topics like politics and religion. I can pick out examples all day where pushing the envelop has gone too far, and pretty much handcuffed this board's capability and purpose.

No sale, Skipper. I just don't buy what you're shoveling. I understand the problem you had and your wanting to nip that in the bud quickly, but I don't understand your overreaction or inability/unwillingness to admit you're overreacting. I've always read your PMs and warning and what you are saying now is not consistent with what you have said in the past or the way you have moderated this board in the past.

I'm sure I understand the heart of all of this. I know you don't like The Yard and never have. You have told me in the past you would like to do away with it and if it wasn't far and away the second busiest board in this forum, you probably would have done just that a long time ago. As a result, you don't like moderating this board which is why you come down so hard on it. It's a helluva lot easier to fire up the chainsaw and level the place than to take the time to trim it every now and then. And trust me, I sympathize. I know you are busy and don't want to devote the time necessary to maintain a board you don't even care too much for.

It's my opinion (which is worthless) that you are too heavy-handed in The Yard and delete/end threads that may be heated or push the boundaries, but in no way cross them. We've had that discussion before. IMO, The Yard exists to some extent to push boundaries on matters not related to football. You can't have a neutered off-topic board... it just doesn't work that way, but you can't get rid of this forum because as much as you may not like it, you know it's importance to this forum overall.

No, I think it should be open for discussion - if one can handle the discussion. I have no issue with arguing, well, an issue. It's when it turns juvenile, nasty, pornographic, whatever that it's no longer a discussion. You should be allowed to try - once you cross the barrier, that right is then taken away - or it should be. It's a challenge for sports related threads on point. What makes you think a thread about assisted suicide stands a chance on this board after a few pages? Most threads are fien up until about page five or so. I've always had an "five page clock" for threads. By then, you can usually tell which will be fine and which will veer off to depths and destinations unknown.

As far as the wall thread goes, you summed it up pretty well and by the end it was barely more than late night Twitter. Threads don't have to violate a guideline to get locked. Threads get locked on all the boards when they've run their course or veer far enough off.

jtk, all I can say is that you must not read private messages or pay attention to what threads get locked and/or deleted. Pictures of swimsuit models turned into see through lingerie shots like the one above, Hoff covered with puppies or pics of Asian dudes in leotard/thong contraptions.

Again, I have always locked or deleted threads (that I've seen anyway) which had photos that crossed the line. I sleep at night and have a day job, so it's very possible certain threads have progressed that I didn't see.

The challenge with an OT board that has no real driven discussion point is people have a tendency to take things too far, and that's what ruins the fun that might be had otherwise.

We've seen it on this board with the pictures. We've also seen it with controversial discussion topics like politics and religion. I can pick out examples all day where pushing the envelop has gone too far, and pretty much handcuffed this board's capability and purpose.
