The reason Katy has been given no respect in any National Poll that is objective and scientific is because of strength of schedule. Those polls do not factor subjective biases such as history, popularity, and coaching. Katy is a very good football team, there can be no mistake made about that, however Smithson Valley, SA Madison, and Converse Judson would all be certainly undefeated had they played Katy's unbelievably weak schedule including that ridiculous region 3 playoff run. That undefeated record intimidates no one from the 26-5A, especially Smithson Valley. SV plays near mistake free football and capitalizes off of opponent mistakes better than anyone including SLC. You can not force these guys to fumble or bait them into getting called for chicken penalties. They have an incredibly high collective team IQ to go with good all around athleticism. I favored SV by 7 over SA Madison, and I will favor SV by 14 over Katy. If you fumble, SV will get on the ball, if you throw an errant pass SV will find a way to intercept. They will control the clock and go on unanswered runs despite not having any gamebreakers on either side of the football. These guys will almost never put a skilled player or a defensive back into D1 college football, but they will break you down and beat you up on the gridiron. This collective football force, Katy will soon experience!
By the way, Katy fan will enjoy watching Andrew Sendejo's 80 yard kick-offs. Too bad this kid can't make PAT's and Field Goals as he does not really know how to direct and properly control the football. Fortunately he is a good enough defensive back that he can at least earn a D2 college football scholarship.

Will soon experience... could you take more away from the football program??? They have experienced everything. SV is the same SV, just as they were in the past years. Katy has experienced it, we all know both Katy and SV have phenominal coaching and will NOT overlook any subject of the game. And oh yeah, Sendejo kicks it out of the endzone by 20 yards easily, but Konesheck gets it deep in the end zone to where nobody will want to run it back. Whether you kick it 100 yards out of the end zone or 9 yards deep, a touchback is a touchback. Both teams pooch the ball on kickoff and are good at it, which is why I say they are the exact same.(that and offense, coaching, and defense schemes)

Yeah it is cool, but it's all the same. Don't get me wrong, I love watching the ball and when he kicks it-it looks like any usual kickoff then about half way in the air you notice it isn't coming down anytime soon, but it is just like a 5+ yard deep kickoff. Even if they do return it 5+ yards deep, they won't get passed the 20 on a good kickoff coverage(which is all you see this deep in the playoffs).

He will! This guy almost caught Chris Caflisch the first time they played SA Madison on a 71 yard Caflisch run. He dove and cliped his heels. How many guys does Katy have like Caflisch that can run sub 47 seconds in the 400 meters or 4.4 seconds in the forty. Point is Sendejo is not slow.

Don't bet the farm on that - Cy Falls is a very good team and next year - Just suffice it to say that we can't wait with something like 22 returning lettermen, including Freeman, Holland and Welch. Katy had some MAJOR heart and showed me something when they came back from the 18 point deficit in the waning minutes of the game. We gave them a scare but all it will do is help them build on that for next week - don't count them out at all. They have some serious talent - also, don't dismiss the Eagles by saying they were a weak team - they aren't. Just wish we were playing SV next week!!

If Cy Falls played every game as they did Katy, you would not be talking. CF was a COMPLETELY different team against Katy. You are most likely going on CF other scores when they barely won against teams that they should have stomped, but when it came to playing a team that was HEAVILY favored, CF came out and played to their full potential. CF is a team based around a strong core of JR's and I would love to see you tell them they can't hang with any team.

Your correct about Sendejo, just watch and see who they put in when trying a very long FG. Its Sendejo. I have seen him make several 55 yard kicks with ease. However Sweet in the man for the under 40 yard FG's. He is more accurate than Sendejo. If you watched the game this week, Andrews kickoffs toward the ticket booth all went out of the endzone in almost the exact same spot left of the goal posts. He has more control of his kicks than people give him credit for. With a little more work, he could be a great D-1 corner. He not only has the speed, but he is also tall. Its difficult to find well rounded players like him. Oh yea, he can kick off for them as well, and might even return punts.

He is a jack of all trades like Tony Green from Madison (RB, PAT/FG Kicker, Punter, Punt Returner) Green is maybe the most accurate kicker Madison has ever had. He perfectly splits the uprights over 90 % of the time. His two problems are he has a slow approach to the ball (which can lead to blocks with good pressure) and he loses power beyond forty yards, that is why he does not kick-off.

Thats like asking how many times has SV beat Katy. Does it really matter this week? Dont think so. I will say they have a great shot this year, almost got one last year, almost got one a couple of years before that. Its going to happen... hopefully sooner than later. Even if they dont, and they get by Katy, they will have been runner up in 5A 3/4 years. I would take that as a coach or player any day. Some go their whole career not even getting close to the big dance. SV has been there 2/3 years as 5A and working on their 4th. They will also win one soon. Give them some time.

Your right, except one is on defense, and the other on offense. I noticed the slow approach in both games. SV is good at blocking them anyway. However as we say, with caflish back there, muffed snaps and lots of pressure can lead to 2 points instead of 1!

However, For all the reasons listed previously I do think the Rangers will find a way to win Saturday. It won't be easy as some have suggested but we can beat them. I also think the guy he is refering to is the S&D coach, you might PM someone and ask, keep it off the board.
Not only do the KJH guys coach 3 sports at the J high level, and teach in the classroom, they ARE in the press box every game. They travel to the far reaches of Texas (San Antonio, Dallas, East Texas) to scout programs like SV, SLC, and Lufkin, and get up to the field house at 8am on SUNDAYS and work video until 2 or 3 pm- week in and week out. Why you ask- two reasons: they are unselfish, and that is what it takes to be great. Thanks Zippy!

Isn't Judson a 4 loss team as well? Why is strange that another 4 loss program could play very well. And as far as the strength of the san antonio area... I think katy is 7 - 1 all time against san antonio and judson has never beaten katy. So all this talk about katy not being able to play with any team in 265 is just talk.
Cy- Falls deserves some respect...they have the same number of state titles as SV and Madison

As far as the rest of us Katy fans go we could really care less what anyone has to say about this upcoming game. Every year our guys get dogged for one reason or another and that's because other teams have something to prove to Katy and Katy has nothing to prove, their dedication, excellence, tradition, class, and athleticism is shone out on that field and that is all clear to see and doesn't need to be proved on a message board. I like how Maverick seems to think that his district is SOOO hard.. I give your school credit for their excellent success and the rest of your district..and personally I would be embarassed right now to say I go to Madison with the disrespect you have shown teams on this board. Cy-Falls is an excellent team and don't deserve to be trash talked one bit. I also feel sorry for the SV players right now, because I'm sure not all of them appreciate you dogging on Katy the way you are. Any good TEAM player and good ATHLETE respects each and EVERY team and doesn't look beyond any team. I agree with you on one point though and that is that SV is a great football program, but Katy is as well. And some of you say that SV watches more videos so there for will be more prepared but I can honestly say that Katy watches video EVERY morning and on game day as well. There is no saying who is going to win this game this weekend but I do know that Katy will play to their full potential and will show those of you who have dogged on them for lack of competition in district that it doesn't matter who you play, it matters how you play. You are more than welcome to dog on Katy all you want, I just would'nt mess with a caged tiger before it is released onto it's prey. I wish both teams the best of luck.
"Greatness has no limits when excellence becomes tradition"
One more thing...before you want to continue patting madison on the back for 10 years straight in the playoffs check Katy's stats and I do believe you will find that they have 15 years straight and also own 4 state championships under thier belts, so when you want to talk about past teams you may want to be fully informed.
Good Luck Tigers and SV...

Thank you for giving me a heads up on this game. If you don't mind though, I think I will still go to it even though you have already decided the winner.

To all Katy fans, I must correct you. Madison has won at least 2 state championships, that I know of, maybe more. Too bad they were not in football. Their FFA Wool Judging Team has won state the past 2 years in 04 and 05. HA HA HA.

Well said KatyTigerChick.
I think that if you look at the sucessful programs, SLC, Lufkin, Katy, Judson, and SV along with many others I'm not mentioning you get the opposing teams best. Look at SLC you don't think every team they play wants to beat them to be on the list with Katy that has sucessfully beat them as a 5A school. There are always games where a kid plays above his head or has a bad game. I think when you play a sucessful program the opposition ratchets up their game to bring their best which is what it is all about. Playoffs you got to love it.
Win or turn in your equipment.

That coach was probably looking for a job at SV. Probably a Katy Jr. High reject.
Actually the "coach" wasn't really a "coach" It was the Katy High School athletic program's conditioning instructor..for all sports, not just football. Do you really think he would cut down his new school and say they don't work hard when in fact they really do? I'm sure SV busts their butts, but don't try to sell Katy short son. I've been through the Katy program and it ain't no slouch, trust me. There's a reason freshman year over 150 players start out, and by senior year only 70-80 are left.

i thought Katy was #4 in state and SV was #12....at least that was on this site...
And a 10-0 Clemens team was #8 until madison creamed them, and we all know what happened to Madison saturday!Polls are for the suits. We started out at #3 in the AP.We lost in a inbetween game, thinking of Judson the next week, and the AP booted us.We all know that when the dust settles,SV is always in the top 5.SO,that means SV`s the underdog, and on the road,it should be another easy "W" for the greatest team ever from katy, err Houston.
