Again, this is de regieur for reaching milestones. Since this one was hastened by my noticing how close I was to 6,000 and the fact that a new year was fast approaching, I'll try to be as sappy as possible.

But really.

Many of you already know that the last couple of years have been both difficult and exciting for me.

In July of this year I opened a small shop in Copperas Cove. Well the end of the year is here and the shop is still open. Not making any money yet, but I am employing 3 people (1 full-time) and the income is starting to pay the rent/utilities. 2009 is going to be a better year for business. I have to believe that.

I have a Senior this year. I am so proud of him and what he has overcome to be who and where he is. He was a 1lb, 14oz premie and is doing just fine tyvm. His dream is to be a Football/Sports Manager, first at a D1 College and then, maybe for a Professional Team. He will soon be an Eagle Scout and is graduating in the top 20% of his class. Not bad for a kid we were told would not be able to make it in regular school.

My 8th Grader tried Football and Basketball this year. Mostly to be able to tell the HS coaches next year "talk to my coaches at CCJHS" when they ask him to play a sport. He will follow his brother as a HS manager. He was recently inducted into the NJHS. He too will be an Eagle Scout someday. And he has decided he wants to be a Chef (maybe he'll teach me to cook). Not bad for a kid who entered 2nd Grade unable to read, huh? I am so proud of him and what he has overcome to be who and where he is.

My husband of 26 years retired from the Military in September of 2007 and works most of the time in New Mexico leaving me with a lot of time on my hands. Time I could dwell on the bad and not see the bright future ahead of me and mine.

These are the exciting things. Now...

In August of 2007 I lost my dear sister suddenly of an apparent heart attack. I spent 4 months living in Tyler trying to settle her affairs and while I was there my Mother suffered a devastating stroke. She is now in a nursing home. Content, but she will not be getting better. My Father and one of my Brothers passed away several years ago and all that is left is my oldest Brother, me, and Mother. We have all had a hard time dealing with our losses.

Why am I posting this now? Well, the idea to get to 6,000 and make a thread like this came from a true desire to thank all of you for helping me get through the last 18 months. They have been hard. Some good hard, some bad. But more bearable for having the friends I have on this board. I am sure I will forget to mention someone. No fears, that is what the edit button is for...

Firebird: Keep pissing me off. I enjoy a good fight. And it's okay if we occasionally agree.

ktCarl: You need to let the hair grow out and look the part you play.

Ladies of the Board (and you all know who you are): We got to keep on keepin' 'em in line.

dada: We will fulfill your dream of supporting an inner city school. Count on that.

Young Turks of the Board: Keep on keeping on guys. Your confidence in yourselves comes through loud and clear. Stay in school, follow your hearts and don't get lost in the minutiae of life.

LPMom: I am so glad we met. You are one of the keeper friends. Looking forward to football games together next fall!

farmer: Life is looking up for you. I know you don't see that yet, but it is. Stay focused, keep charming your clients, wait for love. It is worth waiting for.

Young Ladies of the Board: Advice is only as good as the one giving it. But when you ask, we will all answer.....

jtk1519: You left the board once and I wrote you a long pm. Do you remember it? The same advice holds true today. You are worthy of love. It will find you.

RR00 and okt0ber: You are both gentlemen and scholars. May our friendship live long....and prosper.

wide: If you still read this from time to time, thanks for the prayers and support in the Fall of 2007. I'll show up in your office one day. Don't be scurred.

KT, Champ, Chill: Thanks for having this place. I needed it and it was there.

and finally,

to my friend mad_fan: You are the best friend I never met. Someday I hope to meet this Saint you married, and I guess you could be there too.....

Great post CM.

I'm glad to hear your boys know who they are and where they are going. It's so easy for teenagers to get lost in life and trail off in the wrong direction. It's good to hear there are still some who have it together. (I've got a 16 yr old myself and he is driven as well) And I wish them well in their future endeavors.

The military life can be hard on families, as my father was a military brat and couldn't see his dad as much as he wanted to growing up. I also faced the same predictiment as I was in the Army when I met my wife. I soon realized I didn't want to live the "here, but I'm not here" life and didn't want to make my wife live it either, so I retired after serving my first enlistment. Then my brother joined and I've been living a personal hell every since. Stay strong and keep the time y'all now have together as you would a child.. The love of "the one" is very precious.. It took me half of the 18 yrs I've been married to realize it, but when I did everything became clearer.. Life made since. I hope the best for you and your husband.

Have faith in your shop and work hard to make it prosper, a good lady like yourself can do it.

And finally....(sigh)... Do you remember the night you and I had some words in a thread?.. We were talking about a song and movie download site and we had a disagreement about it.. Anyways, I dont want to re-hash anything.. I just want you to know that I've never forgotten that night and I felt bad about some of the things I said that night. I had decided that night that I didn't like you and would likely not talk to you again... But it kept bothering me.. and the only things in my life that ever bother me so much that I dont stop thinking about them are the ones that really mean something to me.. that touch me in ways I dont at first realize.. Well that situation was one of them.

Since that day I've just read most of your posts and avoided....bumping in to you so to speak. Well the more I read each time, the more I started realizing that I really liked who you were and what you were about.. I just want you to know that I'm sorry for some of the things that were said that evening, and I totally respect who you are and what you are about, and that lady I know on here as CoveMom is a very special lady and I'm a better person for knowing her.

Your family is in good hands my lady and they are blessed for having you.

Have a very Happy New Years CoveMom.

I don't know how I missed this. I knew we had something in common. It's amazing what our kids can do when they ignore other people's limits!

Congrats on 6000.:notworthy

Nice first post to read in 2009...:notworthy
wide and I used to joke about being separated at birth...
Perhaps you are our lost sister...:D
...
It is a funny (strange) thing...getting to know people in cyber-space...
I believe MOST behave here the way they do in real life...
And getting to 'know' good people like you...slorch...jtk...and countless others here...has been therapeutic for me as well...
We are family...which just means we come together...not that we agree all the time...
You were a Legend long before 6000...

I am really glad to have gotten the chance to meet you in person this year. You've never judged me from day 1 and you got to know me as a person and I know we've shared a lot over the last few months. You know who already knows who "CoveMom" is but I don't think he knows your real name LOL

I am looking forward to many more years of meeting up for football games or for whatever other reasons.

2009 will be great!
