Actually the players will need to dress before they get on the bus and leave SLC.:D
I know its a long drive guys (I live in Grand Prairie and will have to drive it to). But its a great venue for play-off football. Standing room only for 25,000 fans all packed tight around the field. Its loud and rowdy.

And this pic was the one when Lufkin and Longview played. We were on the home side. But like I said there was still a lot of space on the grass at both ends of the field and on the hills of each side. THERE WILL BE ENOUGH ROOM. But if sitting in the grass is too unbearable then bring a blanket and pretend you are having a picnick and just enjoy some great football. People forget that Lufkin playing on a Friday night in Waco took a lot of fans out of going to the game. Had the game been on Saturday I know we would have had a lot more fans at the game. Did anyone care? No! That is just life and life isn't fair. We just deal with it.

I know you might think so but I have a feeling that if you go to this one you will see how much more electrifying the atmosphere will be like with all of us packed in that stadium. I was at the Astrodome in 2001 when we won the title and there were so many fans there and it was great but the place still seemed kinda empty. When we packed out HBS last season when we played Longview it was just a whole different level of excitement. To me it was not because we were close to home but because the whole place was PACKED and VERY LOUD!!!! Maybe it is just me but I like it that way.

That is funny that SFA has that picture on their website. Appearantly that game broke the attendance record for the stadium, but school officials would not release the offical number becuase they did not want the record attendance for the stadium to be for a high school game and not for a 'jacks game.
There will be plenty of room for anyone who wants to come. Even with the 22-23K for the Longview game, the end zones were almost empty.

I played at that dump while at North Texas. That place doesn't have 15,000 seats. What a joke for a semifinal playoff game.
Why the hell you guys couldn't find a site at A&M or Austin to accomdate all the fans.
Doesn't matter though. With Lufkin losing their QB. SLC will role. They just need to take care of the football no INT's. You see what happens when you have turnovers you almost lose to a team you outgained 600 to 300 yards,\
PLANO FOR SLC!!:D

What do the Dragon faithful want? They want Lufkin to play in a larger venue to accomodate the fans, oh yes that would be Texas Stadium, their home away from home.
Gimme a break, how could you honestly say that's a fair and honest call for Lufkin.
What other location did you have in mind? If there was someplace else available, Dodge didn't try to offer it to us. It is always Texas Stadium, you know, getting Southlake out of their element and into ours is exactly what they need for a change.

If SLC is to beat Lufkin next Saturday, they better eliminate the mistakes that occurred today and their place kicker better get more consistent!! Plano had a very good team but, I think they played a little over their heads and we relaxed a little after it was 13- 0 after 3-4 minutes into the game. Not taking a thing away from Plano......they played a VERY inspired game today!!
I saw the Lufkin game last night & the SLC game today. I still believe SLC will win this game and I believe the point spread could be the biggest since these 2 started playing in the semi's. I was very sorry to see #5 for Lufkin go down Friday night!!

And what is the max attendance for this stadium??? By the looks from those pictures, unless I am going completely blind, it is not near enough. The SLC fans have a right to be upset over this. This stadium looks like it is smaller than Clark or Mesquite Memorial. Not appropriate for a semi-final game. Perhaps the UIL should set minimum requirements once you reach a certain round of the playoffs.

While I would prefer a big time stadium wherever it would be, we lost the flip and this is what we have. Thanks for sending the pics - it actually looks kinda cool and has the makings an intimate, old time high school venue. I do wish the game started at 1:00 instead of 2:00 - it will be getting dark in the 3rd and 4th quarter. I agree it will be be nice to play at home the next time we play Lufkin - how about Dragon Stadium? :)

I will say this. I've been to a game at Homer Bryce with a packed overflow crowd (LP vs. Longview) of close to 25,000, and games at Texas Stadium and Floyd Casey with crowds of 25,000 and above. The atmosphere at Homer Bryce was much more electric. Even with the big crowds the other stadiums still felt somewhat empty.

Doesn't matter where the game is played. SLC could play in the Tom Thumb parking lot and win. Dodge will prepare the team to play. You think he'll stoop so low as to use the SFA as a means of further motivating the Dragons? I know Todd wouldn't think of doing that. Watch SLC jump out to a 21 point lead and coast home to a State Final birth. Lufkin is a great program, but playing a semi-final game against SLC without their starting QB, is their any wonder why Outlaw flipped for home and home? His first choice was the Lufkin cafeteria.:D

Homer-Bryce has seen some major improvements over the last 3 years that include a new press-box and new spin turf, and both are first class. I do agree that the stadium was once below par, but after attending a game there last season (SH/SFA) realized it is now an above average facility.
Look at it this way, you guys could be playing in TULLY stadium like we are this weekend against SV, which is WAY below par for a Semi-Final game IMHO.

So you are not depriving your players when you decide to play in a second class facility with a lower attendance figure? You are not depriving the school, by missing out on all of the revenue that could be made by having the game at a big venue?

The smaller venue does not cost as much to obtain, so that means that the schools get to keep MORE $$$$$$.
The only reason SL and LP will lose revenue is if the SL fans CHOOSE not to come to Nac.
SFA will sell a ticket to anyone that wants to get in.
Not one person will be turned away. So don your green and white and enjoy the ride.

The stadium has enough seats for 15,500 people. I don't care how many people will be let in. That does not matter. Texas Stadium costs $500. I think that there would be atleast 51 more people if the game was at Texas stadium.

You took my comment the wrong way. Decision was made, they flipped the coin, all's fair and Lufkin did nothing wrong.
I still think the SLC fans (and Lufkin for that matter) have every right to be disappointed. Many will miss the game. And in terms of the game being about the players, ask any of the players in the SLC vs. Plano game this weekend. They will always remember playing in front of 35,000 fans!
And by the way, I'm not from SLC and I have not heard any of their fans suggest that the state owes them anything!

I promise you that you will get in. We had a packed house against Longview last year and people were sitting in the grass but there was still MUCH more room on the grass all around the stadium. And there was well over 20,000 at that game. We weren't even close to filling up all of the grassy area. It will be a great atmosphere I can promise you that.

i bet SLC wants the UIL to mandate all playoff games to Texas Stadium.
How dare we inconvenience you with travelling like the rest of the state does.
The Dragons have a GREAT program, and I really doubt Homer can make any tackles or catch any passes, although I have heard rumors of a turf-monster lurking.
Your focus should be on travel plans to get there early, because you could have some purple on your side of the stands if you wait too late.
The first game I ever saw Lufkin play on the road was at Conroe ISD against the Woodlands during the regular season last year. I met a relative from Lufkin at the game and he said to be there at 11:30 for a 2:30 start. I was amazed at how early everybody came for a crowd breaking the record for that stadium when Earl Campbell came calling in the '70s.
The bottom line is this. Many colleges would love to have a following like SLC or the Pack. There will be room for everyone. If you feel the need for aluminum, you'd better be early. The Pack will need their best effort to play another week, I doubt either team is ready to give up because of the little miscellaneous things going on in the fans' lives.

No. If the shoe were on the other foot, all the little SLC people would be telling the Lufkin people to "get over it and quit whining".
One thing is for sure, all the pissing and moaning in the world isn't going to change where the game is to be played.

I said I was not going to get in this argument, but! I heard Coach Outlaw offered Kyle field, and Rose stadium in Tyler, but Dodge would not agree to the long trip for his players. Took a chance on getting the game at Texas Stadium instead. Then after he lost the flip for home or home tried to agree with Kyle field. Who cares where the game is played.. lets just play the dang thing! I loved Smoaky's comments on DFW football venues versus the rural venues
God knows, maybe if some of them come down this way, they'll realize we can speak English, we have running water, and I think we're expecting electricity any day now...and just think what might happen to "us" East Texans once we discover the INTERNET!!!
Now that is a man I can respect for his comments. By the way the gates open at 10:00 a.m. If you want to sit in a seat DO NOT BE PLAYING TOSS WITH YOUR SON IN PARKING LOT at that time! I got to stadium at 10:15 when Lufkin played Longview there and wound up sitting on the grassy knoll anyway.

I am looking forward to going to Homer Bryce, looks like a great place for a game.
What is the quickest way to get to Nacogdoches from the metroplex. Should I take I-20 to 259 and go south, take 45 south to Fairfield and head east or take 175 through Jacksonville?

The comments about "playing at your place next year" are EXACTLY why Coach Outlaw always attempts to go neutral first. Assuming Lufkin has a p.o. team next year with a similar run - the Pack gets to go to Texas Stadium for South Garland and/or SLC - or maybe both. That's a long way off - but it has "bit" several teams in the past - thus, Coach O prefers to go neutral. My preference would have been to play SGarland at Tyler and SLC at Kyle Field - neither happened.
BTW - CCove would come to to SFA next year because Coach Welch also didn't want to play on grass at Kyle FIeld - so LP packed back over to the FLoyd last Friday night. It's an imperfect system that works much better when venues are available (the FLoyd was already reserved) and coaches make efforts to go neutral.

Why doesn't the UIL make contracts with larger stadiums from the get go. They already know that teams from different cities are going to be playing each other, they just don't know what cities. They could make a contract that says in year 1, the Region I & II semi final will be held at Texas Stadium, in year 2 it will be held at Rose Stadium, year 3 Texas Tech, or something like that so the teams that make it that far already know they are going to have to go to another stadium, but at least it will be a large stadium. Same with the state championship game, I don't know anything about Round Rock ISD stadium, but the Div I title at a high school stadium? They should do the same thing, only make it travel between Houston (Dome or Reliant), San Antonio (AlamoDome), Dallas (Texas Stadium), Austin (UT) and possibly Kyle Field. That way no one team decides on where the games are played, but it is predetermined before we even know who is playing. That seems more fair.

In '01 Lufkin played Trinity in the semi's at Tyler Rose, and in '02 they played SLC in the semi's at WacoISD. Though both games were packed, it appeared to be suitable for both teams.
Last year is when it seemed the huge crowds for earlier games became more of the norm - SLC vs. AHS at Texas Stadium was huge, as was SLC vs. Lufkin at the FLoyd. SLC vs. Plano and Lufkin vs. Copp. Cove this year were both large - with PLano/SLC equalling SLC/AHS at TS in '04? So, the huge crowds prior to the finals as come about largely due to teams in DII traveling huge - namely Lufkin, SLC, AHS and Longview. Katy/SV are playing in a 12-15,000 (jammed packed) stadium in Houston - nobody seems to be complaining/concerned about it - may not even be a total sell-out.

Let me set the record straight fans.
Copperas Cove was to play the winner of Plano/SLC at Texas Stadium if they won. Outlaw was the ONLY one of the four who wanted to wait until Saturday to figure it out. Other venues were offered and he said the he wanted to wait. UIL says that if the coaches don't agree it goes to a flip. After the game, Outlaw decided to flip home and home. Nac for his home and Dodge offered Texas Stadium. We lost the flip.
NOW... For all the Pack fans who think business will be as usual for Homer stadium. they are sending HALF of the tickets to SLC. Pack fans will NOT be allowed to come on our side or visa-versa. One endzone will be yours and one endzone will be ours.
Than being said, there will be just as may Pack fans going home as Dragon fans. Thank Outlaw for that.

Very, very doubtful to me that Coach Welch and CCove agreed to that. The only point I will agree on is Coach O does like to wait and see IF a neutral site can't be agreed upon. Again, typical assumption that all should bow and agree that TS is the only viable neutral site existing on the face of the earth. Go read Smokie's take - he makes excellent points.

does it really matter where we play? the last few threads all i have seen is slc fans *****ing and whining about what kind of stadium they are playing in the fans are not playing the students that play dragon football will be playing out on the field all u need to worry about is if u show up and support your team i bet if slc loses this game there will be about 2 or 3 threads blaming the venue on why they lost the game

Favpack, read my statement again.
Never said that TS was a neutral site. That was to be SLC's home and Homer was to be the Pack's. Once again, a neutral couldn't be worked out SO... UIL says you have to flip. SLC lost the flip.
Cove was coming to TS. Check with the Plano AD if you would like.
panter 08, not likely a venue would be the blame for a loss. The better team will have won. I think you are seeing people upset over the size of the stadium. Not the location.
Now if this game was in El Paso, now people can complain about location.

All i can say is that the good thing is the panther fans only have to drive 30 minutes. We will take over that stadium, we can make sure that the slc fans don't try to take home seats. That would be a mistake. All of Lufkin should be there by 8am-WE will have almost the whole stadium filled by then.

Are you going to climb the fences to fill the stadium by 8am? My understanding is the gates don't open until 10!
