This story has already circulated, but Rick Reilly really nails it. It is worth a Christmas read.

My dad worked out there for a while in the mid 70s back before they put up all the fences.

Giving All Honor and Praise to God the Father. I thank him for his Grace. I thank him for his Mercy. I thank him for sending Jesus, the Perfect, into the world.
I thank him for the Football Game between Grapevine Faith vs. Gainesville State School. :notworthy

for the young men yesterday, today, and tomorrow at Gainesville state school ... numbers 6:24
I've had the pleasure of volunteering out at the Gainesville State School twice in the past few months. In fact, the students I work with plan on being the cheering section for the team next fall.
These boys and many of the adults who work with them do have a very bright future. It's in the individual stories that you hear some crazy things that have led the different boys to lock-up. Some of the circumstances they've endured are too tough to even hear about.
I'm glad Reilly took the time to share this story with the readers of SI. These boys deserve our prayers, time and support. They have their entire lives ahead of them.

Nate, I too have had the opportunity to volunteer at this school. It has been 15 years since I have been up there, but I do remember how overwhelming it was to sit and hear those stories from 13, 14, and 15 year olds. It breaks your heart to hear the circumstances that some, so young, have had to endure. It also reminds a lot of us how blessed we are to have the opportunities that we have had in life and so often take these for granted.
-Merry Christmas
