Matt kicked a 52 yarder against Bryan this year in Kyle Field (college width goal posts). I thought that one was impressive since the wind was pretty low. Wind or no, that 61 yarder was incredible.

I don't know. I get blocked on web searches and don't have my high school book.

Exactly what I was thinking... Isn't the record for NFL a 65 yarder by Jason Elam for the Broncos?

Holy ****... I completely missed the part about no tee and grass. He's my new idol.

Elam, 63 yards in Denver.

Tom Dempsey, Saints, 63 yards in Detroit with half a foot.

I give the edge to Dempsey, but only by half a foot!:p

Russell Erxleben also had a 67-yarder for UT back in the day. There's a website that has all FG's of 60 or more yards, but I was blocked.

What is amazing...he kicked the ball without a tee. All the other h.s. kickers mentioned above used a tee. Even Erxleben's kick was off at tee.

Any word on where this kid who kicked 69 yards went, and how he was not in the pros(if he was the how was he not heard of) I know it was a while back, but I still haven't ever heard of him or the other kickers that have been mentioned.

did anyone else see trinitys kicker kick a 60 yarder during warmup? Not trying to discount the 61 yarder, just wondering if anyone else saw

We saw it - it was pretty amazing to watch both kickers practicing - they were both doing a great job - I figure in 2 years when ET's kicker is ready to move on to college - he will be highly recruited. If he is this good as a sophmore - just think what 2 years of practice will do!

If you look on the list of over 60 yard field goals you will find the name Wayne Latimer who hit a 61 yarder for Virginia Tech in 1975. Wayne was on the high school team with my brother. He was one of the very last straight ahead kickers. As I remember it he had a slight club foot like Tom Dempsey. Besides having great range he was very accurate. He often put his kick offs on the track in back of the end zone.

He had a real chance at a pro career waiting for him. 61 yards was not his limit, he had more range left in him. My brother told me he hit a 65 yarder in practice. After he hit that 61 yarder he was home in Richmond Va. riding in a friend's car. They were driving about 25 miles an hour. The car hit a patch of ice and skidded sideways into a concrete bridge abutment. Wayne's kicking leg was crushed in the accident - end of career.

Athletic ability can disapear in the flicker of an eye - enjoy watching it while it is there. Thanks for the post that had that list of over 60 yard kicks, it brought back the memories of watching Wayne kick.

I'd say it might be time for someone to insure that boy's leg with Lloyds of London. A 61 yarder with quality athletes trying to block it, wind or no wind, is a major accomplishment.
