Really unusual stats for SLC today. No punts. 35 First Downs. They won the time of possession. This never happens.

I said this in another thread... I never realized that SLC has only been outrushed once this year.. against Coppell. Newton had 144 yds today.

He did a great job today, and i must say that that was the worst tackling i have seen this year.

That was to be expected. Plano wasn't going to give up the deep ball. I think only once on the first TD did they throw it for more that 25 yards in the air for a completion.
Plano wanted SLC to drive down the field with short passes and runs. That's why you had 95 plays. Odds are that the offense will make mistakes on those long drives. It happened 3 times with the INT's.
Got to give it you. You guys are a great team.!! :)

Newton has really come on the last 2 weeks. He has shown speed & quickness out of the backfield. I am not prepared to say he is as good as Luna yet, but I am building a trust in him and the SLC running game. The big issue I see in the dragon running game is McElroy. He has done adequate throughout the regular season and okay during the playoffs but he is still slow. Plano did not respect him today as far as running the ball. After SLC scored the 2 quick initial TD's, Plano went to the cover 2 and slowed down the SLC passing game. Newton started moving the ball because there were only 5 in the box. I think Lufkin will come out in cover 2 and make SLC beat them on the ground. A few weeks ago, I would have said we could be in trouble. Now, I like our chances. I wish McElroy had the running skills Chase Daniel had last year. I think it would be more difficult for Lufkin to start the game in cover 2. The luxury of McElroy against Daniel is that he is a better pure passer than Daniel.
What's the word on Renfro? The radio said collarbone but nothing more. I do hope he comes back next week. I think having Hewitt covering him would be a match-up you couldn't draw up any better. Two great players going head to head.

Congrats SLC. Sometimes a champ has to work for one.
