I have just returned from Texas Stadium from a great game of football for which I thank the players and fans of both teams. A week ago when it became known that SLC would play Plano, we had all the trash talk from the Plano fans; ‘our play-it-tough defense will shut out the running game’, ‘our speedy this’, ‘our strong that’ etc etc; but as the game approached there was more class and dignity from all fans, with Plano asking all fans to attend the game, and how both schools have accomplished so much, complimenting achievements, etc.
The attendance was about 35,000 I believe and it was great to see so many SLC and Plano fans - I really liked the paw print signs which were being waved – that was great to watch. I thought both sets of fans were really into the game. Plano played great today, clearly stepping up for this game. But SLC had too much offense and the SLC defense was able to contain Plano’s offense in the second half. I think posts had been written that if the game became a shoot out, which it did – then SLC would win – this proved to be true. Plano played a very effective running game in the first half, but was too one dimensional to be successful in the second. When Plano needed to throw; that is when the game became lost for Plano. Plano can be very proud of the team – it is never a disgrace to lose the best.

I just got back as well. It was a great game. Plano played the type of game it needed to. They provided a very tough defense especially against the pass and created some turnovers. SLC was forced to take it up a notch or two in the second half to catch Plano after being down at the half. Both teams can be very proud. The game lived up to its billing. As toonman expresses many thanks to the fans and the teams.

Congrats to Plano on a well played game and great fan turnout.
Double congrats to Ron Mendoza for the defensive adjustments that really slowed down Plano's offense in the second half.

Was a very well fought game with intensity and great effort on both sides. Plano has clearly built a strong team and should be considered properly placed in the recent polls - watch out for them next year, the tradition has returned. SLC showed that they have a heavy-duty defense that can keep their team in the game, even while overcoming 3-1 INTs.
The game was also notable that the only booing from the crowd was related to the actions of the refs. Otherwise it was great fan involvement the whole game.

Congratulations Carroll. What a great game (atleast for 3 quarters:))
I will be 100% behind the Dragons the rest of the way. I have always liked SLC since the mid 80's. I can definitely say there was no shame into losing to y'all today.

I would like to thank all of the SLC players and fans for this game. You have shown class and respect, and we at plano appreciate that. Great game by both sides, but SLC beat us fair and square. On and off the field you played a fair and classy game and we all appreciate that. No regrets for plano, we played our hearts and and did the very best we could. There's no shame in losing to the number one team in the nation. Best of luck on your season, you deserve it, and thank you for the respect

There are posters from around the state who embarrass their schools on this board..I saw nothing but good natured support this week & at the game today..it was a game played by 2 programs who know how to win...and act like it! Congrats again Plano on a great effort..it was pretty good stuff seeing all of your past lettermen welcoming the team to the field..

I wasn't at the game but at least from all the message boards this past week and what I heard on the radio I have a lot of respect for Plano. I felt a lot better while we were losing in this game (and at the thought of losing) than I did against Grapevine (which was due to crappy playing by SLC and 3 missing starters!) You guys were definetly underrated all year and gave the Dragons all they could handle fair and square no excuses. Your fans also seem to rate right up there with Katy and Denton Ryan. Congrats on a great game and terrific team.

Listened on the radio today and was on the edge of my seat. Congratulations to SLC, and- the Plano Mystique is back. You guys are an inspiration to a certain former dynasty about 350 miles West of the Metroplex. :D

I agree the game lived up to what I expected. It was a 1 score game going into the 4th quarter. Plano had the ball down by 4 with 5 minutes to play. Couldn't ask for anything else. Plano's defense just got winded. You guys ran 93 plays 600 yards of offense. WOW!! Turning point was the 3rd and long that SLC QB completed a 25 yarder to the plano 8 after being within an inch ana a step of being sacked for a 10 yard loss in the 3rd with Plano up 27-16.
Note: it was cool being down on the field with 150 other former wildcats. THe old letter jackets are a little more snug than we liked. Good tradition that Glenn Davis assitant principal at Plano started at this game. Saw some good friends and some plano legends out their. WAY COOL!!
Finally SLC is a salty bunch. That offense is strong but it was the defense that won the 2nd half.

That was an amazing game. I flew in from lubbock to see it and even tho we lost it, it was definatly worth it. Classy fans and players on both sides of the ball. Good thing mcelroy is comin to tech we need a good Qb to replace hodges. ill be cheering for him next season.

quick question, did a small section of your fans start chanting "bullsh**"? i could of sworn thats what they said, not starting rumors just asking..

Yes, the student section did due to some of the iffy calls late in the game. The fumble Newton had not being called and Greg Rideoux got pushed around a little right before the ball came with no flag late in the game. Those 2 plays happened right in front of the plano student section and I'm not sure the refs got them right.
Anyways great game, good luck slc.

thanks for the good luck!
the refs in that game, not what id call "the best" some of their calls were just iffy both ways, it seemed that when ever they missed a call theyd try to make up for it or something...the bad spot first down for caroll on a 4th down, then later on they gave us a better spot than we had (this on a diff drive) and it was enough for the first

12-03-2005, 11:06 PM
Yeah the refs weren't that great both ways, they also seemed to give us a bad spot late in the game when Alex Lott caught a pass on 3rd down than Sfikas tried to sneak by for the 1rst but supposedly came up about half a cm short.

of course they were. that stuff happens at all schools. heck our student section does it. they are 17 - 18 year old kids, they are gonna do that stuff. its really not that big of a deal.
subnote: im shocked how many plano fans have come back after the game and continued to post with *gasp* (dont hurt me wide) class. it was a great game, both fan turnouts were great. it was awesome to see the upper decks with a good amount of people in.
great game

From where we were sitting, we never heard anything like that. Of course we could barely hear the band, and we were on the 40 yard line directly across from your band.
My loyalties lie with Plano East where my kids graduated, but we wanted to see a great match-up today. Where we were sitting the only chanting we heard was Plaaaaaaaano, and Deeeefenssssse. Now there could have been a rogue group of students doing something that we didn't hear, but with 35,000 people there today, I could hardly hear myself think!
Great game. A few questionable calls here and there that probably changed the momentum of the game. But over-all, no major complaints.
Plano sure made you guys work for this "W", huh?

the only call i couldn't see at all was the punt to the one. it looked like the coverguy carried the ball into the endzone, but like i said i couldn't see it at all. would someone from the other end tell me how they were able to keep the ball out of the endzone all the while piling into it themselves.

Honestly from what i saw of it is they called it where he first touched it and not where he ended up. Did not have the greatest view.
i questioned the fumble recovered by Plano they said was not a fumble. it was very close. they prolly made the right call, it was just very close

I really don't think this was a big deal. But we did hear it. Remember you hear what is coming from the opposite side of the field sometimes better than what is coming from your own side.
They were reacting to a call at a critical time during a very intense period of the game. Ummm. Nevermind the whole game was intense. Thats why it was so great. I was not offended by it. I actually got a chuckle out of it. I thought the fans for both sides were great. We thought we got a bad spot on one play that hurt us and we booed it. But I don't recall anything negative when it came to the players. Both sides cheered each others halftime show. This game goes down as being a very classy game all the way around as far as I am concerned. Don't take my comment as attacking Plano. This should be remembered as a great game for Plano, SLC and Texas HS football.

We thought they were missing a lot of band members (more than a dozen) and we could not figure out what happened. Thanks for explaining. They did a great job to be missing so many kids.
We enjoy Plano's band as much as the football team. Their director is great and he's as big of a football fan as anyone!

didnt get to catch their show, we went up to the tunnel soon as we played, and got back into the stands right away..thats the first time we've done that since ive been in the dragon band...usually we stay on sideline play for football team, then go to tunnel get soda snacks, then go back to seats as we finish, usually im one of the firsts ones back so it doesnt make a diffrence to me, but the diffrence is that most dont get back till end of the 3rd, so we dont play for like all of 3rd, so it was nice being able to play the WHOLE game

Playing at SFA really sucks! I do not blame Lufkin (limited facilities in the area). But I feel for SLC and its fans. The limited capacity means a lot of people will miss the game.
