I always held Coach Gary Joseph in high regard, but you have to admit, he was left a pretty sweet deal when Johnston left. The program was in place and he did a great job of keeping things going but..........................
There can't be enough said about what he and his staff have done THIS year! I've said in several threads now about how impressed I am with how this team has developed this year. Gary Joseph has now written his own legacy and it's just as good as any before him.

Hey, d-idiot! If you had been paying attention, you would've known that Katy Taylor came from behind to beat Seven Lakes in the final seconds of the game to take the other D1 spot with Cinco Ranch. If Lakes had held, Katy would have been in D1 so quit spewing that garbage. I think at this point, even the people on the board that aren't Katy fans are tired of hearing it.
Is d-train related to Al Gore?

Umm, that would be the Taylor Mustangs for winning enough to be the 4th winning team in district. You should have been rooting for Seven Lakes, then we'd have been D1.
Oh wait, facts don't work with you. Just that little Fantasy Island you call home.
EDIT: Sorry Pool Man you beat me too it!

AMHO wondering what happened....
I talked to one of the coaches the other day and he said he doesn't know how to explain this team. I told him I can explain it. We have the best H.S. coaches in the US. Kudos to the coaches

I second the nomination for coach of the year.
What an incredible job Coach Joseph has done this year. They completely dominated Wylie and that defense of Katy was well prepared. Nobody had been able to stop Wylie during the playoffs and the Katy D completely shut them down.
I have new found respect for Coach Joseph and the Katy program. This has to rank up there as one of the most memorable state championships for that proud program, :notworthy

We should take an honest poll of non-Katy fans, who really thought that this rag tag bunch of scrapping soph's and jr's would take the title again. That staff and those kids earned it. Well done.

I have always though coach Joseph has been at least 5 plays ahead of his nearest competitor, we just had to get some of the young players caught up. I am proud of the defensive effort they gave today.

Coach Joseph has a great defensive mind and that was proven today as Katy's defense played lights out.:notworthy That's saying a lot as Wiley has a very good offense.
But just as the team plays as a team, the entire Katy coaching staff deserves huge props and earned respect for what was accomplished this year! :notworthy:notworthy

Even when Johnston was there, Coach Joseph had as much to do with Katy's success as Johnston did. They were there together from the first year, I believe, and it was always Katy's defense that we were known for. Does anyone know if Johnston had any success at that Christian school he left to coach?? I never heard anything about it...

I couldn't agree more and wasn't trying to overlook anything that happened prior to 2004, but the fact of the matter is those were Johnston's teams and these are Joseph's teams.
With the effort made this season, I just thought it appropriate that people should recognize Coach Gary Joseph for all of his accomplishments. I don't think I've ever seen a Katy team come so far in a season. Great job, Gary! You and your staff are second to none.

Whatever these two coaches put together, and those that supported them ...it was (and still is) genius.

I went to every game this year and there is no way Mitchell was not an all state player, the kid is so dangerous it is unreal, best of luck to him on the next level.

Great Job by Coach Joseph. It is a pity a certain team in the DFW Area who used to win State Championships does not have a coach of Coach Joseph's caliber.

Pool Man, I think Coach Joseph was left a very hard deal....he had big shoes to fill and the pressure was on him for his program to succeed as before. When Katy was down at the beginning of the year they had to look to a leader for direction. Coach Joseph looked to be that leader...Remarkable job! Coach of the decade in my books! ;)

The only thing more difficult that creating a state power is keeping it at that level.

Agreed. He's been unstoppable in the 5 years since he's taken over for Johnston. The man is 23-3 in the playoffs with losses coming from Southlake Carroll (34-20), Clear Lake (35-34), and Cy Falls (28-21). If he doesn't deserve it then I don't know who does...except maybe Todd Dodge.

I am not saying Allen would have run from the challenge but using the polls you reference as the supporting info that Katy wouldnt stand a chance is just dumb. These polls are absolute nonsence and the fact that Katy has the tendency to beat those teams that are highly ranked in those polls when they actually play is something you have to take into consideration. I would have liked our chances.

I guess that's another way of looking at it. What I meant by saying he was left with a sweet deal, was that the foundation was already in place. He was with Coach Johnston from the beginning so he knew how to run a successful program. Not only that, but he took over a program that was firing on all cylinders and had history and tradition to go along with it. It's one thing to win when you have all the tools like last year, but it's another thing to rebuild a team and accomplish what they did this year.

Katy is great example of succession planning. All good businesses have a succession plan - I know this is high school and is football, but it is still an organization which needs management and organizational structures in place and Katy have done this great effect. There is another thread about Katy being the Team of the Decade - I think Katy are poised to confirm their outright claim to this honor, with the "Management (read coaching) Structure” in place.
