I see the "Cult of Global Warming" is starting to fall apart. Funny that it's happening so soon. I wonder what Algore will do once the whole scam is exposed?
I admit that I do not know the answer to the question as to whether the earth is warming/cooling, or if we have any affect on it at all. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of what those whackos advise seems to be a smart thing to do.
Don't generate as much trash.
Don't use too much energy.
Seems like those things accomplish a lot of things.

I'm not going to sit and say that a lot of the stuff proposed by the CoGW are bad things or less than good. But make no mistake about it, Global Warming is a business. The purpose behind the Global Warming myth is money. Those talking heads that never seem to shut up about it are trying to make money. Otherwise, they wouldnt bother with it.
What is the percentage of scientists that believe the world is warming and that man is at least partly responsible vs the percentage that believes it's crap?
Why do some cling so hard to the smaller percentage?

I just find it odd that all the scientists that are associated with the CoGW are the ones saying that's happening. The ones with no association to said Cult seem to disagree. The ones associated with the Cult are getting money. they're gonna say whatever they need to say in order to secure that money. The ones without the association, have nothing to lose and they dont care.
I just dont buy into it. Mainly because the history of this planet shows that it's constantly warming and cooling. It was doing that before God put us here. It's done it since then too.
why are the same morons in the Cult of Global Warming some of the same that were in the Cult of Global Cooling back in the '70's? This is the same thing. It's a group of people crapping out a "cause" to make money.

I doubt there's an accurate number for it, but I would imagine they are spread across the spectrum as people would be on most issues.
I'm no expert, but I did earn 12 hours credit each in meteorology and geology courses. I believe there is some man made impact on the climate (overpopulation/natural resource drain, deforestation, etc.), but also that the overall global climate is largely cyclical. The efficiency of this planet is truly staggering if you take the time to look at the larger picture of this planet.
We have natural earth processes that put as much, and much more, pollution into the atmosphere in one event as anything man made.
Here are a couple UGS articles on the subject of volcanic pollution:
http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hazards/gas/index.php
http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hazards/gas/volgaspollution.php
There are 50-60 "major" eruptions a month on average around the world, but there are many volcanoes that constantly erupt and emit gasses into the atmosphere.
Overall, we live in a world that is designed to balance itself. Without this balance, life could not exist.

Yeah, but did you stay at a Holiday Inn?:D
In all seriousness, you are kidding yourself if you don't realize that one can make quite a lucrative career by dismissing global warming as bunk. There are lots of people who will pay you well if you are a credible scientist willing to publically take that position. That game runs both ways.
FWIW, I am not an expert climatologist, but I in general feel that the less crap we pump into the sky, the ground, and the water, the better we will all be!:)

What is the cult of global warming, and how could you possibly know ALL the scientists that are or are not member?
The global warming crowd are a fanatical bunch. It's become cult-like over the last few years. People that believe global warming is man-made approach it with religous fervor. It is the Cult of Global Warming.
How could I possibly know ALL the scientists? Because I am The All-Knowing Pinion. That's how. No really.. I dont claim to know them all. I mean the ones that are constantly making racket about it. I've yet to hear from (in the media, etc...) a scientist that does not have some bigass government funded program/university backing him speak on the issue.
All of that aside. It's been proven that the Earth goes thru cycles of warming and cooling and has forever. To me, that says that it's going to happen, human or not. Do we have some impact on it? Prolly so. But we are not solely responsible for it and we arent going to slow it down. It's going to happen. We may prolong it, but we arent going to stop it. And the same for when it starts the cooling phase. It's going to happen we cant change that. My opinion is that we should be trying to change what happens naturally anyway.
I'd add it's threads like these that at times leave me scratching my head a bit. You have people point to this guy and say we shouldn't recycle, shouldn't conserve energy etc.
To a related post about Glen Beck. I was listening t him this morning and a listener had emailed him that his kid got an invitation to a birthday party. Five year old party by the way. In any case, the invitation stated to not bring a present, but suggested a donation to some environmental cause. Glen and someone else were joking about it, but suggested they find a cause that sounded environmental but was really just a greedy company exploiting the environment.
Now, likely much of that conversation was in jest, but I really think some buy into that line of thinking.

Research is expensive. Very expensive. And climatologists are not exactly like the Monopoly man. Virtually every meaningful research study is done with backing from the government, universities, and grants from foundations, not just climate change. That's why that DNA study on bears in Montana that Mr. McCain loved to talk about was funded by the feds. Nobody else is going to fork over the millions of dollars it costs to do massive studies.
You do realize that many of the people who debunk global warming get grant money from industries that have a vested interest in not changing the way they handle their carbon output, don't you?

Sure. I get all that. That's I why I said what I said about the Earth history showing that it's warmed and cooled many many times. Nobody disputes that. again, to me, that says that it's always done it and always will. That's the end of the discussion. We cant change it and we shouldnt try.
That doesnt mean that we should just blow thru resources and not take steps to conserve. If we dont, that makes us nothing but a cancer; using up and leaving nothing. We would end up using our planet up and having no home in the end. That's what welfare does in most cases. Uses resources provided by someone else and does nothing to contribute. I dont want to spin this off directly into politics though. Then we'd have to move the whole thread to the politics thread. that thread sucks. lol.

as you well know, if any worthwhile researcher can't design a project to prove a preconceived notion, he isn't really much of a researcher. the ptb involved with the gw premise are certainly going to throw their backing in specific directions. same with the antis. the gw folks have the media behind them, in the most part.

I disagree. I work with researchers all day and I know very few who try to design their research to prove a point. Actually, I know none. I know quite a few who take what they do very seriously and would/have turned down funds from sources who do not want unbiased research but rather a pet point to be "proven."

you mis read what i said. any researcher could not does. if you friends/colleagues wanted to, or had viable reasons to, they could design an operation to prove their point. an agenda and a payoff at the end can move mountains, if so desired.

I haven't really read this who thread, but I can tell you that the scientific community is starting to turn on the myth of man-made global warming as evidence mounts that not only is any warming NOT man-made, but we are not warming at all. The reality is that for the past couple of years, the planet has been cooling and many spots are reporting record cold spells. The arctic ice shelf, which global warming propagandist have been saying is melting, actually grew by 30% (about the size of Germany) in the last year. Recently, 650 scientists signed their names to a Senate Minority report that challenges the contention of the UN's International Panel on Climate Change that there is a scientific consensus on the causes of global warming.
There are a lot of reasons to explain the cooling and warming of the Earth, but the one that makes the most sense to me and is starting to get much more scientific backing is the theory that the sun is having a direct effect on Earth's temperatures. The reality is that during the 90s when the Earth was experiencing rapid warming, sunspot activity on the surface of the sun was the most active it had been in 1000 years. Now, sunspot activity is all but dead and has been for many months and the Earth is responding with a dip in global temps. What's more is that every planetary body in our solar system that we can measure has experienced the exact same shift in planetary climate that Earth has. In the 90s when the planet was warming and the sun was at it's most active, the polar ice caps on Mars were melting at the same proportional rate as those on Earth. Unless the scientific community wants to back the idea that greenhouse gas production on Earth is melting polar ice caps on Mars, it seems to me the myth of man-made global warming is steadily being debunked.
The reality is that with the current sunspot activity and the correlation between that activity and planetary climate, we are actually staring at the binging of a "mini ice age" similar to that which struck the Earth in the middle of the 17th century... a period when very little sunspot activity was seen on the surface of the sun.
Now, I am all for most "green" initiatives. I recycle and buy "green" as often as possible. I think we should be rapidly developing alternative energies and reexamining the way we live. What I have a problem with are the propagandists who instituted this fear-mongering ideology so as to exploit the ignorance of the global population all while trying desperately to silence the portions of the scientific community that offered differing science-based theories. I don't know what their motivation was for their hysteria-inducing behavior (I suspect money because a lot of people are becoming filthy rich off this), but the charlatans like Al Gore are slowly being exposed by the very sciences they tried to manipulate in an effort to drive home their propaganda. Maybe now there can have a real scientific debate.

I can honestly say, that's the best post I've ever read from you.
I think you are not likely to get many scientists agree on much. It's hard enough to get historians to do so. I have seen the sun spot theory and it makes as much sense as any to me.
