i have been hearing poeple talk about how the feild is going to be in bad shape after the katy/wylie game, but my aunt works for reliant she told me that the feild will be perfect, its complicated but its some real high tech stuff with the feild, the have like 250 yards of feild and something like that and when the first game is over the will bring in a new set of grass, sounds confusing but just know the grass will be in tip top shape

Good info, as you can see from the 360 view that the floor is just a floor and they bring in new grass as needed so should be good for both games. Since it was designed for football and rodeo they can change it out as needed. LINK (http://www.reliantpark.com/360/360.asp)
My daughter's apartment is across the street on Fanin and this is exactly what the lady told her about how they are doing it.

sure they arent gonna save the grass for who it was intended for.....the texans. (if they play there sunday) find it hard to believe that they would make it nice and cozy for some high school kids and not themselves. and besides, let it rain. a little mud and wet balls never hurt anybody. its football!!

I find this very hard to believe. When Katy played Brazoswood following the Cinco Ranch game the field was in terrible shape. Furthermore- the Texans moaned and whined every time it was used the night before by HS teams because they DON'T magically swap out. The time and man power required to replace 57,600 sq ft (over 2,133 sq yds) of sod is mind boggling.

No way they are changing out the field between games. Whoever believes that is kidding themselves. If game one chops up the field, then game two will be played on a chopped up field.

However, the field looked beautiful on Sunday, I am sure it's going to be fine unless there's a deluge. and such a thing is not in the forecast.

looks like it's going to be typical Houston Christmas kind of weather -- muggy and upper 70s for the afternoon game.

I can only go by what the lady told my daughter?

The Texans will be in Oakland on Sunday so not a factor.

Signed,.. Every player in the 2006 Lamar Redskins vs. Cy-Fair Bobcats playoff game.

Perhaps North Shore & Pearland can vouch for the feild conditions as well

KTCarl feels the same way about Excalibur (his cowbell). He loves playoff games at Rice because he can bring it to the games. They aren't allowed at our home stadium. :(

katy played the second game of a double header in 2006...I think it was against Brazoswood....Pearland/Cinco was the first game.....players would break out, trip and fall without being touched....we all joked and said that the players were tripping in all the David Carr "Butt Divets" in the grass.

I see that Allen has a 600 member band? thats the ultimate noise maker right there!!!...I dont think anyone in Houston comes close to those numbers, but with Allen being a one high school town and district with over 4800 students, then I can see why they have six hundo deep in the band!!!!

The wind may be a factor. Because the roof will be open.
May swirl a little. I remember the first year the old astrodome opened up . They had real grass in there at first and it kept dying. So they put in , what was at the time a brand new material. Synthetic grass. After 45 years Houston , we still have a problem... with trying to use a natural grass in what is basically an indoor facility. Seems like they would have learned from history and put in the Nebraska turf or whatever is the most current sythetic.
Grass is for outside fields that get full sun exposure and cows. Those greenhoses grow the grass ok, but the roots must be short, because it goes to:Censor: fast.

It was not a good desicion to put grass down in the age of field turf. You are right about Houston not getting it right.

I just called Reliant Stadium to get more details on allowed cameras. I definitely don't have professional equipment, but I do have a digital SLR Nikon D60 with an 80-200 mm zoom lens. Even zoomed to the max, it's not even close to the 12" lens maximum I read in some of the info we got from UIL and/or Reliant, but I wanted to check since another piece of info I saw said "small point-and-shoot cameras only."

I described my camera to the lady I talked to at Reliant, and she seemed to think it would be allowed. I asked a lot of questions to be sure, but I hope I don't get there Saturday and find out they consider it "professional." I have a small camera-case backpack that I carry it in, but I'm thinking I might have to put it in something different to avoid both the no-backpack rule and to keep them from wrongly assuming it's "professional." I also have used a very small backpack for a purse for years, but I guess I'm going to have to swap it out, too. So where do I put my nice Allen Eagle 2008 program I've carried since the first game of the season in August?

They are making this hard; this isn't some professional 100 percent for-profit event. It's high school kids and high school football, for goodness sake! It's not Reliant's event--it belongs to the players and students and families of the schools competing.

Has anyone been to a game at Reliant and have an idea whether they're going to have problems with my camera? I'd like to also carry my second wider lens (50-88) but don't want them to see two lenses and assume (wrongly, again), "Aha! This counts as a professional camera. Reject!"

My guess is that your camera will be OK. These rules are written to apply to concerts and NFL games. The NFL doesn't allow professional cameras and concerts don't allow video cameras.

I'm sure exceptions will be made for the HS games. I know I'm bringing my shaker! :Music
