The National High School polls are termed properly as "Mythical". It would be cool if there was more interstate play during the pre-season, but a poll regarding tems that never play, is silly. Having said that, I did watch Lakeland, Florida, who is ranked #1 in the USA poll, and was bored out of my mind..while they had some atheletes, I don't think they could compete vey well with Texas's top teams.

some misguided individuals worry and fret and brag about this etherial process called the mythical nat'l championship. i learned years ago to leave behind the things about which you have no control and instead focus all your energy on that which you can effect. the state championship is an earned and pride-bringing award that should be and in fact is what every team left in the po's striving.

Lakeland, who is ranked #1 in the USA Today poll, won 28-21 over Niceville.

They did it in front of 10,000 standing room only - every Texas 5A game this weekend will have that many on each side...

I agree and I have watched them. Like a month ago, I said that they weren't very good to compete with Texas Teams.

lol yea it is really funny that they only get 10,000 stands. Most football teams in other states are lousy.

Yes, the process is etherial but it has to create some sense of joy for SLC fans to be considered "#1 in the nation". Don't you think SLC fans might be somewhat disappointed if they finished #2 or lower in the national polls like when finished a dismal #15 or something in 2003 when they ran the table in their first year in 5A? Of course we (us Texans at least) know that whoever wins the 5A crown in undefeated fashion should at least finish in the top 3 in the nation every year but the rest of the country hasn't been convinced until Carroll started getting national recognition in 2003. How disappointing is it for all the 5A Texas teams in the 80's and 90's that went undefeated and didn't even make the top 10 in the nation? Now is Texas' time to shine nationally and SLC happens to be at the center of the light. I just hope SLC gets a chance to prove it next year against nationally ranked out of state competition to make believers out of naysayers (Independence, Ohio D1, Hoover, MV, DLS, Lakeland, Byrnes, etc.). Does anyone really think Lakeland would stand a snowball's chance in hell against SLC this year? If there are I have some oceanfront property in Missouri I'd love to show them.

We'll never know about Carroll vs Lakeland this year, but as ddaddy said, the State Championship of Texas is real and is what all players in Texas aspire to.
