On the clipping call the play began as 3rd and 3. The reason Lufkin had 3rd and 13 following this call instead of 3rd and about 50 was that the foul took place behind the line of scrimmage. Clipping behind the line of scrimmage is a 10 yard penalty from the previous LOS, clipping downfield is a 10 yard spot foul.

I thought that on that play the Lufkin ball carrier was trying to score a touchdown for Cove. He ran a minus 50yds and wound up only losing 10 because of the penalty. That was a big break for Lufkin.

I got confused where EJ ended up - didn't he actually make the first down? Otherwise it's 4th and whatever and Lufkin would surely punt you'd think. The goofy down marker guy added to the confusion - he should have stayed planted until they gave him his mark. I thought the call was good - repeat 3rd down with a ten yard penalty. But, let's get real Cove fans - Jacory gained 35 yards on the next play - was it that big of a deal?

EJ's final spot out of bounds was three yards shy of the 1st. The Cove coach should have declined the penalty and forced the panther punt. The reason he didn't is because he thought the loss was going to be much greater than simply 3rd and 13. In the binoculars I didn't see the spot of the foul, but I know it was behind the LOS. Ref's made the right call- Cove coach gambled and lost. Job well done to Lufkin for capitalizing. That's why you've made it this far. Best luck next week againt SLC.

Bottom line is Cove had LP 3rd and 13, basicly with the game on the line, if we make the stop and force punt, good chance to tie it and force OT. Well we had the chance and could not stop the runner, and that's what it all boils down to last night. We could not stop the running of #12 & #22. Dawgs made a great comeback to tie game, but couldn't finish the deal. Good Luck to Lufkin, you've got one great team, IMO the officals made a few wierd calls, but it had no real effect on the game outcome, your speed killed ours..

Great season Dawgs, 13-1 and into Quarterfinal, nice accomplishment for the program,,,,

Agreed Cove - a stop there by the D - and who knows. LP fans were definitely wondering why we didn't run up the gut on 3rd and a short 2. Kibble and Turner both had great games - reflecting an offensive line that played very well. Best to Cove next year and great run this year.

Thanks for clearing that up I was too busy looking at poor #90 after Ralph nailed him on one of the times EJ cam back left and never saw the rest of the play.

Nice post Covedog,
Copperas Cove no doubt is one of the state's elite. They had athletes all over the field. Buckram, Garner, Athison and the receivers were all exceptional players. Also, I was impressed with #35 (LB Sterling Lewis). Probably the best game I've witnessed this year.

I really had to question that reverse call on 3rd and 1 with 2 minutes left and Lufkin O-line is hammering the Cove line?? Strange call to say the least? It almost cost Lufkin big but the O-line and Turner bailed them out.
