There's so many of us Oak fans on this forum now, so I decided it was time we get our own thread. We have a while till next season so for now we can discuss how we'll do next year, what senors we're loosing and what school they're goin to, we can talk about our coaches, etc.
lets get this thread goin

If you are a fan, why havn't you done your research? you can go to the website and see for yourself who the Seniors are the will be leaving: http://www.kleinoakfootball.com/Teams/Varsity/Roster.htm
Now with that having been said - OAK should be just fine on Offense at most of the skill positions and quaterback, the question is who steps in at O-line and RB? Maybe Starr or McClain get moved? and on D they should be fine everywhere except D-line with only 1 starter returning.
Alot of things will always depend on injuries, of course we wish the best but remember for example this was the first year Wilson made it through a season un-hurt. I expect them to make the Playoffs and maybe have a chance at Quaterfinals - but who knows because no one this year thought they could go as far as they went.

yeah i right now am doubtful that they will make the playoffs. but hey that is what everyone thought this year also. maybe they will suprise me. maybe nxt year we can get a new offensive coordinator to get the ball moving a bit faster. but defense should stay the same. with the 3-4 defense and the speed on the outside it definently develloped pressure

Unless Klein Oak out works all the other teams in the offseason, it will be tough to determine where they would stand. all the teams are going to be excellent next year.

Honestly, based on the kids y'all are bringing back....Klein should be awesome! BUT.....against Oak....you know it's a rivalry....anything goes. But if I was a bettin man....and I am! Statistics are going against KO. We're bound to lose one now and then.

I know that some have said that he can't take us there because he is so set in his ways. I personally never heard him say anything remotely close to the new Motto. It has always been work hard, character, fine young men, etc...which are not bad things. I think he knows that this next year with all the returning lettermen we will have a shot at being very good if not great.

Klein
They are going to be very strong next year
Juniors becoming seniors--Already they have experience, now they are ready to really play
Their pre game jitters are out now, and i dont think there will be many teams to stop that running attack, Dekota Barnes and Patrick Johnson
Oak vs. Klein will be a great rivalry game. Oak returns a few studs, while Klein returns an entire team. It will be up to Oak for their Juniors that played JV to step up and play!

I don't see Klein winning district next year, let alone state. Just hear me out. They will have a good team, no doubt, but this past year was a big disappointment for a little school called Westfield. I think the Mustangs comeback next year with a vengeance. Granted they will be losing big name talent, but that kind of program usually finds a way to bounce back.

I hope this works out as I would like nothing better for the boys then to have success.
But I'm sorry I think he may be the worst coach in the district -- let's face it he has gotten the least out of the talent that he has there. - Does anyone remember 2 years ago?

I must support Coach Labay, for obvious reasons and he is a great person.
Coach Smith at Oak is a good Coach and he has made the most out of the talent (IMHO) Has he made mistakes sure, who hasn't ?
The question is what will Coach Smith do with the loss of all those Seniors at Oak? The positions that need the most attention at Oak next year are Running Back, LB, TE, DB's.
Junior's Gilliam at LB, and Muncie at Safety are locks for All District again next year. Losing Corcoran, Williams, Anderson, and Washington at LB will not help the Panthers.
QB with Wilson at the helm is a huge plus for the offense, not having a returning RB will be an issue. Osaam got some PT his Junior year and then kicked butt his Senior year, I did not see any Junior RB that made any kind of impact at all this year. Yes a few touches in garbage time. Any JV squad RB's coming up?

I don't agree with that. The majority of the skill positions on offense are returning. The D-line returns Hughes, The LB corps will still feature Gilliam and Stewart. The secondary will also have two returning starters in Payne and Muncie. The O-Line will have the biggest overhaul next season with, count 'em, ZERO returning starters. Greg Flores will be the most experienced offensive lineman next year, and he is a good one. But, that will be the biggest, and most important, change for next season.

Moerbe was clocked at 4.59 in the 40. His weight room numbers include a 305 lb bench max and 435 lb squat max. He is around 6'1" and about 230 lbs. How he does not have a Rivals page yet is beyond me. I have seen talented d-ends in HS Football, and he is going to be one of the best. Alot of people at Oak are calling him the white Julius Peppers. Time, and his talent, will paint this young man's legacy.

Yes klein oak suprisingly returns alot of talent believe it or not. With Muncie, Gilliam being the big names on defense and then with Hughes which will be a stud in the future and then you have Stewart and Payne who both were starters. Then on offense you return Wilson who will be the big playmaker and at rb there are alot of quality guys that could come in and fill the role but will be no Ossam. As for Recievers they return everyone except Najvar but look for Baby Najvar - Max Stevenson to take on that role next year with Starr, Waites being the outside threats. But the o-line will be a huge hole to fill. But the two main guys will be Fatu and Flores both who started some games when Koch and Naron where injured. But if anything coach poth will have a good offensive line on the field for the start of the season.
And for Klein i predict they will be ranked higher due to the number of returners but this year's oak team had way more D1 talent than Klein will this year IMO. But i believe when it comes down to it i believe oak will still be a top team due to their mentality and way they are coached unlike the other teams in our district.

so ive heard quite a bit about the JV A Team Klein Oak Qb...Kenny Stover
even though it is JV, he threw touchdowns to 9 total people, threw over 2,800 yards. and got a total of 38 passing touchdowns....and only 1 interception the ENTIRE SEASON
he threw a touchdown to all the 5 starting receivers, the tight end, and some backups when the starters were tired
the Jv didnt have a very strong running game, but to put up those passing numbers is HUGE!
he would have done just fine on varsity!

Starr, Stevenson, and McClain.
Starr was on JV, Stevenson is a big soph (did he get much PT) and McClain has always wanted to be QB, what will he be if Wilson stays healthy? He was a good extrapoint holder...just kiddin. I see Brandon at WR.

Starr put up good numbers in the last regular season game and throughout the playoffs, Stevenson showed great potential early in the season but faded a little, another off-season should have him fully ready to step in and be an impact guy, and McClain could potentially play safety or WR/TE.

I looked at the JV team on the website..pretty strong team, few losses here and there.

Another kid to look for is Tom Call. He played TE on JV and is making the move up to Varsity. Word has it he might move to Defensive End. I can see this kid becoming the next Brian Corcoran, he is deceptively strong and bulldozed defenders. My only guess is that he will do the same to would-be-blockers.

more news from a friend of mine about Jv for Klein Oak!!!
It turns out there is quite a list of names that were moved up to varsity for playoffs, and all were hard workers and great players
Charles Musslewhite(is that how you spell it?) is a tall receiver with good hands and high jumps. If he gets bigger, he will b another threat
Corey Abrons played receiver for JV, but is making the move to defense i hear. I am unsure of how he is on defense, but he is incredibly fast, expect him to make heads turn

im not worried about the pitch and catch next year. the challenge is gonna be our o-line. are they gonna be able to hold the d-line of westfield. They wont be anything close to Cletus and Big Country but we have strength. Andy will have to get used to them in the offseason and prepare for next year the best we can.
Klein Oak JV A team went 7-2. They lost to spring and westfield. #14 on Jv always got the deep balls everyone else was more of a 10 yd route person. Stover threw exceptionally well last year. I cant wait to see them next year in action.
McClain will move to tight end and slot as with Stevenson. Starr could be moved to RB or we could just use him in the "T" formation. But if we could get the JV RB to get a little more serious with his game i have good expectations for him. Flores and Fatu will have the most experience on the line. Stewart and Gilliam will have good experience with the run game for next year.
CANT WAIT FOR '09!!!!!!!!!

I did a little research on Musslewhite. He has great height and reach as well as jumping ability. His chances to catch the ball at its highest point are great. He is probably around 6'3 or 6'4 but only weighs around 170 lbs. You give this kid an offseason to gain 10-15 lbs and we'll be talking about the next D-1 prospect to come out of Oak. I love his potential.

I think we will see a slight drop in their success next year, but the near future looks good for Collins. Coach Svoboda has his guys playing hard and with passion in a system that fits his players, something I feel was a little bit lacking in their last few years. We'll see if they can imitate thier 13-5A brothers and find players that can step into positions and continue to help their team notch up some victories.

Klein Oak will come out sharp and playing with the aggresive mentality they are known for.
I know the klein oak situation at running back is a big problem but i wouldn't be surprised if gilliam made his way to playing rb again and going both ways. The kid played rb has a freshman but then when moved up to varsity he was just linebacker. But with the offense klein oak runs you have to remember that the QB is also a running back with our zone read offense. Andy last year rushed for over 1000 yards and that will also help our rb with defenses having to key on andy.
Also in IMO with klein oak having two quality QB's this year Wilson and McClain both can run and throw why doesn't oak go to the dual qb system with no runningback. Think of McClain and Wilson both in the backfield defenses not knowing which one will throw and both are built kids that can run in between the tackles. Just think of the trickery and play calling that can go with that offense haha.
P.S. Rodjohns think if klein could run that offense haha

Ya with my son being on jv gold i would always stay and watch the jv game and i must say i was impressed with number #14 may be a little light but with a hard offseason he will definetly be a player. Basically he just overmatched everyone on jv with his height and speed. But yes i would say he does have the potential to be D1 caliber.
And for Tom Call don't know much about him except that i hear he has an aggresive attitude and the mentality like corcoran to get the job done.
These two will be big playmakers if they play to there potential:)

The talent at linebacker will be stellar next year. JV stud Chris Blaylock will add depth to an already powerful and quick linebacking crew. He could also prove to be a special teams standout, I'll even venture to say he is going to be the next Leonard Bell. The more I think about it, the more my expectations increase for next year's Panther team.

I have figured you guys out....I was trying to understand some of the logic of your posts...Johnsrod....JV is JV it does not count...welcome to the board and welcome to Varsity football...You being new to Varsity football you will notice that SubVarsity play does not count in the grand scheme of things...Only what you have accomplished in a Varsity game. Good Luck...next year.
You only have to go to the game tape of the Oak vs Klein game this year to see if PJ can play (yes Oak won by a TD). When you receive text msgs from Oak parents that say PJ had a great game you automatically assume the sorry lil 5'2" kid can play... when you receive as many letters from D1 schools as PJ does you automatically think hey the sorry lil 5'2" kid can play...of course that is just my opinion on the matter...The good news is that nothing you say changes anything and next year will be very fun at Klein High School...He is now 5'5"..175...
As for Mr. McCLain in the Backfield at Klein Oak he got to come in when Wilson was hurt...I would not say that McClain is already in the backfield...you really do not understand the complex nature of what is going to happen at Oak next year now do you... Happy Holidays!

I wouldn't suggest talking through your son's play, you'll find at the end of the season that you'll be severly disappointed. As for success at the JV level not mattering, you're absolutely right...Varsity players just spawn. We seem to have all forgot how PJ just appeared on Varsity. I'll have to see next year's team. If you can get 4 district wins I'll give you 2-3 games deep in the playoffs depending on the bracket. Region 2 and especially District 13-5A have recently been pretty tough competition.

yeah, but we should be able to get at least 3 district wins pretty easily. i say we get at least 3 games deep. semis or state would be ideal though:D

Absolutely true. You can see a team completely turn around and really make something of their off season, turning their next season into something special, or you have guys that slack off and don't end up meeting expectations.

6. Dekaney High School

8. Tomball High School
1 through 4 is complete up for grabs. Klein Forest might just be a huge contender, but i see them on the decline for now. Dekaney is gonna suprise a few this year, and Spring and Tomball will stay the same.

For this year, we might have to
Nathan Hughes is a guaranteed End
The other side, on the other hand, looks empty
Collin Russell might move down to end, but im thinking their putting him at nose...hes the closest thing to Cody Davis they got. otherwise he will be a huge linebacker!

That would be an intimidating line. I can't wait to see the starting line up. I'd love to see Isaac Johnson get his shot at tackle. He is undersized at only around 5'8 but he has proven himself to be a leader, and he can really get under some blocks.

JV has alot todo with varsity football
With the seniors leaving it opens alot of spots for new players at teh varsity level. If the incoming varsity players can't perform at the level the current juniors are playing, and if the incoming seniors can't perform at the level the senior who are leaving were playing at, then it will have a huge affect on the team. The incoming players will be a huge factor in how far we get next year.

Last season, Oak essentially played a dime 3-2-6 with hybrid backers on the edge. Blake Washington was a converted corner, and Anderson played in the secondary some of last year. That was not a convential 3-4. Playing a 4-2-5 would incorporate the talent at d-line next year (Tom Call, Russell, Hughes, and especially Kyle Moerbe) and pose a stronger presence in the interior running game by walking the Rovers closer to the line who funnel the play back inside and playing the Free Safety over the top in a Cover 1 or Cover 3.

depending on LB size they should be able to run the 3-4 and easily convert to any number of fronts depending on the situation - that is what is best about the 3-4 is it's versatility and blitxing from a number if different looks. OAK basically ran a 4 man "type" front all year it's just that they did it with 3 d-line and then blitz at least one guy (from a number of different locations) on most plays.

but cover 1 allows the other team to open up their passing game
that could end up being a problem against teams with talented recievers. which is most now-a-days

Trey Payne is a lock down corner. He can cover any receiver in the state. And a good cover 1 like Arizone used to run is sometimes even more difficult to pass on, with press coverage or zone blitzing schemes.

i guess as long as payne is on there top reciever things should be fine. with the extra players near the line it may end up working out better as long as we can keep the recievers covered well. shuting down the run game with this style dfense aughta be no problem though.

The o-line is going to be the hardest thing to fix for next year. we have some players but they need to kick :Censor: during the offseason. I know quarterback and Wr's are all there. RB can be found just need kids to adjust their mentality for the offseason. Ya speakin of the bearkats give us some feedback Rod. One question is what do yall plan to do with Keyshawn Hill i know he's a talented rb and athlete but with PJ and Barnes coming back do you see him getting anytime at rb or does he move to WR or goes over to DB?

Are you serious? There is no ceiling to Moerbe's potential. He has a chance to be one of the top defensive lineman in the region and one of the best in Oak's recent history. By the end of next season, he will have offers from some of the upper-echelon schools all over the country.

He was easily the biggest playmaker on offense. No one else even came CLOSE. And I was really surprised at the breakout of Waites. IMO he was the most talented receiver. I'm glad he doesn't need to be replaced. RB and O-Line will be the only positions that will be tough to fill. The tight end position will be easily filled as last years TE wasn't very memorable...seems I've already forgotten his name...

Key Key is gonna make some serious noise in 09' One of the most athletic kids at Klein High School. Unfortunately he was injured last year so he did not play this year. He is a Soph this year but we expect big things from him in 09.
He will more than likely get some action at RB and WR and will get an opportunity at DB. Both our corners were Seniors and one of the 2 safeties were Seniors. Great kid with a great attitude about playing wherever he is needed.

Sure hope so. He made such an impact at LB that I wish he would focus on just that. No sense getting hurt playing different spot and end up hurt the 2nd half...We need him at LB. He only played first half of year and ended up getting 2nd team all District LB...that is stout...

Could've, should've, would've. Oak got beat. Of course if you set up the perfect scenario with no turnovers and playing at your absolute best, blah blah, you're gonna win. Work hard this offseason. Don't make the same mistakes. That's how teams grow.

I believe the tight end was jordan najvar who led the team in receiving with 52 catches for 780 yards. A pretty good year for a tight end IMO. He's taking his game to Stanford i believe.
But enough about the past this thread is about the future. One name that i have heard of from kids in the program that Neil Zimmerman is rejoing the Klein Oak team after being gone two years living with his dad, he is moving back this summer. My son was really good friends with him and those who know the kid can justify he is a playmaker at receiver. Played freshman team here and was a stud. But wen he left he played varisty football up in Indiana for two years but now he's back I'm sure the coaches are excited to have this playmaker back. At 6'3 200 i believe he will be a force next year.
I hope the bearkats will be able to cover this future stud if not it could be a long night. haha :)
