I do not blame the Auburn fans for being PISSED. They are bringing in a loser as a HC. He will not be able to compete with Saban and Bama on the field or in recruiting.
Saban to Recruit: "Come to Bama son, we're going to win the SEC and compete for the NC every year."
Chizik to Recruit: "Uh, Come to Auburn, uh, I was 5-19 at Iowa State. We are going to win.
As a recruit, which one would you want to play for? I know there is more to making a decision than just a coach, but damn, Gene Chizik.
For the life of me I can't figure out why Turner Gill was not offered this job. I think he would have been able to recruit against Saban. An African American coach in Alabama, who has taken a downtrodden program to a bowl game who could relate to young, black athletes in Alabama.....
Gill to Recruit: "Come to Auburn, we are going to rebuild our football program and compete for the SEC and NC, as well as beat Bama. Just look what we did at Buffalo. If we can do it there, we can do it with the resources AU has and you are going to help us get there."
Auburn AD is a freaking moron!!!!!

What was the AD thinking? Go after Gary Patterson at TCU.... this is the worst hire ever.

Auburn fan and Auburn AD deserve what they get. What's amazing is that they pushed Tubs to implement a more high-octane offense, so....of course....they went out and hired a SUNBELT OC to do it. Then were furious when it didn't work and dismissed the Leach out of hand because of their bad experience with the spread. He was begging them for an interview.
Great job, Auburn. For Christmas, you get Gene Chizik recruiting the same state as Nick Saban.:D

Don't know how many of you posters have HS Varsity or College coaching experience, but this guy has great pedigree and he will win at Auburn. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it is just that some prove the old saying better than others. ;)
To throw rocks at Gene Chizik proves that anyone can be moronic. Here is a little bio for you........
He began his coaching career at Seminole High School (Pinellas County, Florida), serving as their defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach from 1986–1988. He then became a graduate assistant at Clemson from 1988–1989, working with the outside linebackers. During his time at Clemson he coached in the 1988 Citrus Bowl and the 1989 Gator Bowl.
His initial full-time coaching job was as the defensive ends coach at Middle Tennessee State University. He served in this capacity from 1990-1991. In 1990, the Blue Raiders won the Ohio Valley Conference championship. His next assignment was at Stephen F. Austin, serving as their linebackers coach from 1992-1995. SFA advanced to the Division I-AA semifinals in 1995. He was then promoted to the defensive coordinator role, which he held from 1996-1997. He then served as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach for Central Florida from 1998-2001.
While at Central Florida in Orlando, Chizik frequently visited practice sessions of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers studying the Bucs' defensive scheme, the so-called ‘Tampa 2’, developed by then-Bucs head coach Tony Dungy, defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and linebackers coach Lovie Smith.
Chizik later employed a very similar scheme at Auburn, where he served again as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2002-04. During this time, he had some of the greatest successes of his career to date. He coached in three bowl games, the 2003 Capital One Bowl, 2004 Music City Bowl, and 2005 Sugar Bowl. His 2004 defensive unit led the country in scoring defense, giving up 11.3 points per game, and the total defense ranked 5th, which is the same ranking the 2003 team recorded. He garnered the 2004 Broyles Award, which is given each year to the top assistant coach in the nation. He also guided Carlos Rogers to capture the 2004 Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the top defensive back in the nation annually. The 2004 Auburn Tigers football team finished 13-0 that year, won the SEC title, and defeated Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. It placed second in the final AP and Coaches polls.
In 2005 he was hired by Texas Longhorns to serve as their co-defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and linebackers coach. During his time with the Texas Longhorns, the team won the 2005 NCAA Division I-A national football championship by defeating USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl. He also coached two Jim Thorpe Award winners in Michael Huff and Aaron Ross, who won the honor in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
Then the Iowa State years. He inherited a 4-8 program from McCarney and got the experience that he needed in running the whole program. Recruiting to Ames is like asking for volunteers in Siberia.
Needless to say, there are some fans upset with this hire, but IMO he was the logical choice.

I think that there are more teams in the SEC than 'Bama. He will need to take on all of them.

The problem with Awbarn is Jacobs.
I'd say over 90% of the fans I spoke with last monght at the UGA game were all fed up with Jacobs and not Tubs. They love Tubs and what he did for that program and felt that one bad year was not enough to get rid of him.
I still think you may see something along the lines of dismissing Jacobs and hiring Tubs to take over the AD roll.

As a Georgia fan, I love this hire!! Tubs was a great coach and Chizik, may have been a great coordinator, but he's nowhere near the coach Tommy T was. It's gonna take at least 5-10 years to right this ship now
Alabama has enough top level recruits for one team and Saban's gonna own the state for the next few years now. Plus, now maybe the Dawgs can close off west Ga. Where Allbarn had been recruiting well there for a while

Watch and see. It's got nothing to do with the bad year and more to do with the public debacle this has become, not to mention the resurgence of Bama under Saban.
Saban has always recruited the Mobile area well (Jamarcus Russell), and now he is gonna own it. Mobile is by far the most fertile recruiting ground in the state. Saban will have that plus be able to recruit nationally. Allbarn is in trouble. The Tubberville fiasco will do nothing but hurt recruiting.
Tubs > Chizik

Coach Loozik - "We started 11 true freshmen last year".
Idiot AD - "Get back to me when they're juniors and we'll see if you know a rip about winning".
Let me get this right....Iowa State had a run of 5 bowl games before Chizik comes in...he actually makes them WORSE...goes 5-19....and gets the Auburn job????

He talked about comparing the body of work of the B-ball and Football candidates and the AD choose the least qualified.
