I see this being very similar to the NS/HT game with HT coming out on top once again. Rank no longer a concern, the stats, though only slightly, were on HT's side. I'm going to have to go with yet another 28-21 victory for HT, but this time it comes with a title.
Please do not misunderstand, Allen has proven themselves to be a fantastic team who deserves to be here. At this point, being that I really do not know a whole lot about Allen and have yet to see them play, I am basing this prediction off the paper, just like NS.
HT - what you have done this year has been unbelievable, 8 varsity seasons and now vying for a state title. Bring it home boys!

Reliant is in houston Genius hightower is 15 minutes from there so hightower is home it just more logical because then the left side of the bracket will always be home but what i am saying is that Hightower will have more fans at the game then Allen because Allen HS is over 5 hrs away
Sure hope the ref's are better next week compared to today. Looking forward to a great game with Hightower. I like Massey the best as 100% accurate today, will be updated Tuesday but like what it shows for now:

I don't know why everybody is saying that Allen is the favorite . . . .
Hightower is undefeated!
Allen lost to a "horrible" Trinity team(;)) in week 3.
They escaped by the skin-of-their-teeth in the last
three games, ESPECIALLY YESTERDAY to a way over-ranked
Stony Point team(;)).
I would think that Hightower is the favorite.
As was said earlier, they have all the speed and strength!
I am hoping that Allen can even score against the BEST
defense in Texas.

As I said before Hightower is a great team which has been building for 8 years. If you look at their history it has usually been Katy or North Shore that have knocked them out in the Playoffs.
They have solid fundamentals, solid coaching, solid execution, and first class athletes all over the field. That is a load for any opponent to handle. They are not undefeated by accident; they deserve to be where they are.
I expect to watch a great game. In my opinion Hightower wins a close one.
Go get 'em Hurricanes.
This is going to be a good one since Hightower has finally over come the likes of Katy & Northshore and Allen has over come the likes of Trinity & Permian, look out Houston a battle for the title is coming!
Go Eagles!
Go Pirates!
Go 8-5A!

Let all the people continue to pick against the Hurricanes because it's fine with us. Nobody knows about our team and we like it like that and that is our rallying cry! Even the Houston Chronicle doesn't know about the Hurricanes or that they have won the last 23 games they have played.

let me start by saying i have never seen Allen play, and only saw Hightower once(vs cinco), but i believe this will be a very close game. It probably comes down to who has the ball last. Hightower has some very athletic young men who can compete with any team in the state and maybe even the nation. I am pulling for Hightower(they are from our area), but will look forward to a very good game.

Hey '32,
It is the first day since the Semi's . . . . . . . .
Let's CHILL with the MARTYR talk.
Hightower is a GREAT team.
Both of these teams have fought hard to get here.
Y'all are 13-0. It doesn't get any better than that.
Allen's players and coaches know that y'all are awesome.
You don't have to come on here and talk about how nobody
thinks you're worthy to be in the game.
Hightower could kick Allen's tail. They have the people to
do that.
I don't think they will, but knock off thee martyr talk.
No one is taking you lightly!
now . . . . .
Go Eagles !

Hey, you guys have the better defense. As Katy does as well. Region 3 takes it all.

12-14-2008, 02:08 PM
After a season in which Region 3 has been trashed relentlessly on this board, while all the experts have proclaimed Region 1 to be the runaway best region in the state, how can Katy and Hightower possibly be considered favorites against these two juggernaut Collin County teams?
Thank goodness there is no better line on these high school games, that would be sad. But if there were, I have no doubt that the favorites would be Allen (by four or six) and Wylie (by two or three). They would be bigger favorites if the games were in San Antonio, and prohibitive favorites if it were played in Irving.
Having said that, I think we will see two great football games, and I would love to see Katy and Hightower hoisting the trophies on Saturday. Maybe then some respect might be coming Region 3's way.
Good luck to all and Go Tigers / Go Canes.
And hey Pirates and Eagles: enjoy that 5 hour bus ride to Houston.

Some guy posted it would be a home game for Hightower because they are so close and would have more fans there. Has he seen our band yet? Dont underestimate how many people will make the drive considering that our neighbor Wylie is also going to be there. I see 8-5A taking both crowns and I need to give some props to Wylie, if anybody hasnt got to see Nikita Witlock play nosetackle, I watched him move CC's o-line into the backfield even being tripled-teamed. At one point they had to change his jersey because it had been ripped so badly from trying to be held that it would not stay on anymore.
I am looking forward to seeing some great football Saturday,"GO EAGLES AND FINISH STRONG"

So are we ready to start talking particulars on this game? Tell me something about the Hightower QB? He's a Miami recruit?! Sounds like he's pretty awesome. Who would you say his play compares to?
Also, would love to see highlights of games Hightower has played.
Finally...can we all just agree that both teams have had INCREDIBLE seasons and completely deserve to be the last two teams standing in 5A Division I? I hate to see this thread be reduced down to petty name calling so early in the week.

its kinda hard to choose a team to win.
first off i dont want zack whipple to get a ring cause he moved to allen from pearland.
second i dont want hightower to win cause that shows that we (pearland) could of had a chance to win.
A friend of mine from Dallas told me that Allen borrows black athletes for the skilled positions! If it wasn't for sports there would be no blacks at Allen.
Have to use this one again here.

I gotta respond to some of the posts on here:
1. The person w/ the comment on Allen borrowing blacks. Wow. 100% ignorant and unneccesary.
2. The guy who said look at the last 23 meant that we're 22-1 in the last 23 with that North Shore loss where we blew a 3rd quarter lead and then fell apart as a team.
3. How deep is Allen's band? I'd like to know since I'm in the Hurricane band. And are they good?
4. Hightower fans are bit bitter right now because we have always been overlooked (we were ranked #9 in Houston in the pre-season poll, which was a TOTAL insult), and we've finally made it to the big one, and all anyone cares about is Katy, so for the bitter posts in the past and to come from HT ppl saying how everyone counts us out, plz try to understand.
5. To those who want info on Hightower, here's a little. We have a weak district and blew everyone out of the water during the regular season, but got no attention because we were playing nobodies (the district championship game was 38-0). We got into the playoffs and were underdogs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds (wrongfully, I think, except for North Shore). We have played our two best games, maybe in school history, the past two games (we've been around 8 years). Our QB, AJ Highsmith has been starting for three years now, so he's just solid. He's a dual threat QB, and we have 2 receivers in my opinion that are real quality and one of them is ridiculously amazing-#12 Darius Johnson. Our defense has been the main story all year, though. We're known for our speed, but I think our size is underrated. And 21 seems to be our magic number in terms of opp. scoring. Bottom line is we're fast, seasoned, hungry, and have the coach of the year in the Houston area. Best year in Hightower history. Whats the deal with Allen? I'd like to know how you become the #2 hs team in the world.

I see this being very similar to the NS/HT game with HT coming out on top once again. Rank no longer a concern, the stats, though only slightly, were on HT's side. ... I am basing this prediction off the paper, just like NS.
HT - what you have done this year has been unbelievable, 8 varsity seasons and now vying for a state title. Bring it home boys!
HT's regular season rivals were lame. none of them were even close to being called good teams. Hence the reason for so many shut-outs. None of them were ranked in top #25.
Then playoffs, once they started playing some ranked teams, rivals scored atleast 3 TDs and the scores were much closer. CR gave them a run 24-21, why's that? SA Clark from the other quarter bracket was not so good, because that quarter bracket is by far the worst 1/4 bracket in the tournament. They're horrible teams. HT's 1/4 bracket was good as well as Allens 1/4 bracket.
Should be a tough game, Allen's kids can win only if they have the right mind set. The best mind set was the 2nd Trinity game, the worst mind set was with Wylie.
So if they dont act like the cocky and arrogant #7 also called 'EZ' u know the guy that parades around the stadium with the trophy even though he's very far from being the best player..what maybe 8th or 9th best player if that.
Allen's defense has been inconsistent this year..we never know which team shows up. Our offensive line got manhandled by Stony Point..actually so did our defensive line. Of course our defensive line gets either manhandled or out sped quite often. Not sure if Allen coaches plan ahead for one on one matchups very well or make adjustments. Our linebackers tend to fill the wrong channels too quickly hence many good rival runs are up through the middle.
If Allen's linebackers watched #7 and #27 and didn't watch anyone else, they would have did much better.
I was not impressed with Allen's play, ,there was a great deal of luck on their part inspite of horrible ref calls in SP's favor! Inspite of an Allen punter kicking the ball high into oncoming wind that nearly saw the ball go backwards from line of scrimage, from being man handled readily on the front line of offense and defense,,,Id say the key plays were the interception and the last TD and the penalty that SP gave us for a first down on the game winning drive. The best player out there on the field was by far #7 from SP..amazing runner! BUt he had great help on the offensive line..Allen's big boys were man hanhandled.

A friend of mine from Dallas told me that Allen borrows black athletes for the skilled positions! If it wasn't for sports there would be no blacks at Allen.
horribly wrong and horribly racist - that was a despicable post!
A little smack for fun is one thing but ignorant racist innuendo from a 12 count poster is another thing entirely. :(
I'm with you on this one. More research to get to know the Hightower team. It should be interesting.
Go Eagles!
Go Pirates!
Go 8-5A!

let me start by saying i have never seen Allen play, and only saw Hightower once(vs cinco), but i believe this will be a very close game. It probably comes down to who has the ball last. Hightower has some very athletic young men who can compete with any team in the state and maybe even the nation. I am pulling for Hightower(they are from our area), but will look forward to a very good game.
You saw that game? So what did Cinco do right? They did good against HT.

Excellent post! NOW we're talking...
To your points:
1. You said it best.
2. 22-1? That's an incredible record, even if it IS against teams considered "inferior." Allen had one of those "lose your poise" games last year, after going 10-0 in the regular season. Perhaps you heard? We lost in the first round. (It STILL makes me shudder).
When a team is the top dog, every team they play treats the game as though it was THE most important game of their season. It's gets every team's undivided attention. That Hightower has remained undefeated ALL this time like that speaks volumes to your team's ability to focus.
3. Allen's band is DEEP, dude. VERY deep...about 600+. Get ready to experience THAT which is the Allen Eagle Escadrille. You'll be awed. (Okay...I'm very biased. I had a kiddo that played T-bone for 4 years).
4. Hightower is nationally ranked higher than Allen AND higher in the Southwest poll. So it makes me wonder why you all think you're not getting the respect you deserve? Allen fans know some of the same feelings you have as we've had our newspaper, the Dallas Morning News, give more love to the Planos, the Trinitys, and sometimes the SLCs of the world. But, those teams are considered dynasties (grudgingly admitted). Allen is trying to get into that same arena, although it would take multiple state championships to get there. Bottom line...we "feel your pain" but we both should take pride in our accomplishments thus far. We're HERE...and they're THERE. Ha!
5. Allen's been a perennial bridesmaid for a number of years, so they're on people's radars (at least the people who vote in these polls). I never put much stock in them myself. Teams get overrated AND underrated all the time. The true test is on the field. I believe that Allen is ranked highly right now because its beaten some BIG ole teams this year ....a couple of which are STILL playing (hello Wylie and Longview) and a couple that would be if they hadn't run into the likes of Allen.
Again...great post! Thanks!!

HT's regular season consisted of horrible teams! Look below, the regular season opponent's best record was 7-3 FB Eisenhower, their first game. And the second best record of their regular season rival was their last regular season rival FB Travis with a 6-3 record. ALL other teams on their schedule had LOSING records!
Kempner with a 4-5 record scored two TDs

HT did not see goo teams until they got to the 2nd round of playoffs. The first team they played was Clear lake and they finished with a 4-6 record - 6 losses! Which was the the average record for the teams HT played.
So HT's stats while good were mostly based on a huge abundance of LOSING teams they played during the regular season and the first game of the playoffs.
CR and NS were their closest games of the year and finally they played ranked teams. for the first time of the year.
Im interested to what Katy CR did to make the game so close though. I wonder if the Allen team has tapes of those games? Do most good teams send out scouts with film cameras? it'd be a good idea to do so.
Anyway, I heard many good things of HT fast and strong.
Allen can play good...but I think what's going to win is defense. Allen's D has been inconsistent all year. Im hoping they are pumped and ready. Our big linemen need to not get manhandled like they did during the SP game and allow runners go straight up the middle. Of course that means the LBs too.. they tend to commit too fast and get blocked right out of the way. Allen's biggest defensive weakness are runs up the middle.
Allen's offensive line will need to do better this game than they did last game too. They need to give the QB more time. They did not play good that game either.
#7, EZ needs to stop looking in the mirror and stop his big mouth. Id like to see him actually play football. The most action he has is at the end of the game running around with the trophy skipping and mouthing off.

Cinco Ranch was very underrated. The only team that was better than them that we played was North Shore, in my opinion.

I should never listen to rumors about rankings apparently. But now that I've actually done a bit of research, theres a multitude of diff. rankings and theyre all different. No help.

Let all the people continue to pick against the Hurricanes because it's fine with us. Nobody knows about our team and we like it like that and that is our rallying cry! Even the Houston Chronicle doesn't know about the Hurricanes or that they have won the last 23 games they have played.
How can that be? They did not win STATE last year!!! Katy did and so did Trinity. So you got beat somewhere!!!!

So if they dont act like the cocky and arrogant #7 also called 'EZ' u know the guy that parades around the stadium with the trophy even though he's very far from being the best player..what maybe 8th or 9th best player if that.
.

Do you even go to the games?
54 yard punt return against trinity for touchdown
16 yard touchdown on a reverse against OP
7 yard reverse for touchdown against Coppell
also 15 and 18 yard TD receptions.
He is the captain, so he gets the trophy first. He can do what he wants.
Way to bash your own team kid, real cool
Oh also a scholarship to A&M not to mention he has been on Varsity since his sophomore year and started. He must be terrible. I'd like to see how athletic you are? :D

Hightower wins this one 28-17.
The speed and pure strength the Hightower offense/defense brings is nothing less than mind-blowing
Thanks for the cheer TO, personally one coming from you means a lot to me.

I think its been well documented that district 23-5A, consistening of 10 Fort Bend ISD schools, is a very weak football district, but competitive in all other team sports. It could be due to the fact that football has a need for more players than basketball, baseball, soccer or volleyball, so the talent is spread far thinner.
No other district in Texas has a one ISD district with as many teams. Katy has their own district as well, but they only six schools....with Hightower being only four miles from Elkins, six miles from Willowridge, 10 miles from Marshall, and even 8 miles from the new Alvin ISD high school, Manvel, there are not that many great football players for the number of schools.
While this was a down year for Fort Bend in terms of football, Hightower returned a boatload of talent, and these kids were expected to do some great things this year. Good teams are supposed to bury their competetion, not play down to their level. In every district in Texas, there are at least three or so "W" games that a team knows they are going to win before the season even starts......Hightower had their share....Im sure Allen had their share as well.
When the playoffs start, its a new season..one slip up in district, you can play the next week..one slip up in the playoffs, you're turning your equipment in on monday.....Hightower beat Clear Creek for the third straight year in the first round...not their problem that Creek lost 5 games during the regular season..they can only play who they are matched up against...
the second round matchup was a top five ranked showdown against North Shore...Shore had the same issues that Hightower had..they were a strong team, playing in a very weak district....The matchup lived up to all the hype, and in the end, Hightower, who led all game until late in the fourth, came from behind to win 28-21.
The cinco ranch game was "supposed" to be an offensive shootout...cinco had scored 60+ in their first two playoff games, and was expected to put points on the board, but other then their opening drive of the game, where they went 80 yards in 8 plays, the did nothing spectacular offensively...neither did Hightower for that matter, but the Hightower D calmed down after that first drive and Cinco could do nothing the rest of the way on offense....
So, you cant judge the body of work that Hightower has done this year by looking at the scores and the records of the teams they played.....Since Hurricane Ike screwed havoc with the schedules for Houston area teams, they didnt play everyone in district, but everyone they did play, they took them behind the woodshed....and like playoff teams in higher classes of football, sometimes, you win on special teams and defense, but it still counts as a W....Hightower is gifted in all three phases of the game, and it should be great to see this Allen vertical passing game vs the speed and athleticism of the Hurricane defense in reliant on saturday night..

I agree with ASH, great post! I really appreciate the perspective and information you have provided.
I hope people at Hightower realize and appreciate the respect they are getting. It has been hard earned but anything worth while always is.
From the Dallas Morning News National Prep Poll: (http://www.hsgametime.com/dfw/sharedcontent/dws/spt/highschools/football/polls/stories/120908dnspohsnationalpoll.3de4a63.html)
FB HT #4 - #1 in the Southwest
Allen #10 - #2 in the Southwest
I don't much like polls but, it is one form of respect that should be appreciated. I am going to take the info you have provided on the team and players and watch some video to get a better feel.
As for Allen and how you get to whatever #, We have been fortunate to have played and beaten some of the most Storried and Historically mystiqueafied teams this year. For whatever it is worth, we have had a very rough road getting to the State Finals game.
Predistrict win against the Longview Lobos who are now playing for the 4A Div I State Championship, predistrict loss against the Trinity Trojans, District blowout win against Plano (against the Triplets Burkhead, Meger, Lott, Mystique!), close district win against Wylie now playing for the 5A Div II State Championship. Then in the playoffs we played and defeated Odessa Permian (Friday Night Lights, MOJO) and #1 Euless Trinity. Add on top of that the latest win against the great team that is Stony Point and I think it has been a very rough road.
I think we have become a better team because of the teams/games we have played, but that tough schedule also takes a toll.
As for players, #11 Tucker Carter is taking the reins from #10 Matt Brown at QB. Brown has contributed immeasurably to the success of the team and Tucker is doing a great job at carrying on where his fallen teammate left off.
Tucker is a poised confident QB with a great arm. He is taller and ~20# heavier than Brown. although he is not as fast as Brown, he can run.
The Allen "O" line has been fantastic this year. They are big and physical. With what they faced in the Stony Point "D" I find it hard to imagine that the Hightower "D" will be tougher. I don't mean any disrespect at all toward the Hightower "D", it's just the Stony Point "D" was that good!! :notworthy
RB #3 Jeremiah Williams has been fantastic this year as well. He has been building all year and is a patient and strong runner. #5 Jeremy Reeves Has been a great all purpose athlete for Allen, returning kickoffs and punts he has had some moderate success ;) #33 Bradlee Waddell filled in at RB last year for an injured Williams and has been having a breakout year this year as well. Bradlee has great hands, great moves, and bursty speed that will surprise some folks. #7 Uzoma Nwachukwu (Pronounced Nu-waChakoo) "Eazy" for short. He is a Strong / Fast receiver who is always dangerous to take it to the house. #89 Dakarai Pecikonis has been a clutch WR flying under the recruiter's radar (for now) but always up to the challenge to burn a corner for a game winning TD catch.
More later on the Defense.
Cheers,
~

7 posts and one of the wisest representing HT. I agree some of our posters are a bit arrogant and ignorant at times, but that's just the way the world goes round these days. Every school has them, some more than others.
As for all the points stated here its pretty much right on que, cant think of anything else to add.
At this point no one can bad mouth either team, that's all there is to it. Both have beaten teams ranked higher and lower than themselves, both have had their share of close games. So its really not necessary to compare who barely beat who and use that as a basis to determine who the better team is, only Saturday will reveal that answer.
All I can say is that as a fan of HT and huge fan of TX highschool football is that I have respect for both teams. Which ever one wins I will be happy for as should all the rest of us. The looser of this match cannot say we lost to a bad team and that is a fact! If HT wins then great, that'll make my Christmas break...plus turning 22 lol. If Allen wins, then I tip my hat to them and say they deserved it. Thats he way it should be, before and after the game, for both players and fans.
As Ive always said, you dont have to like your opposing team, but you should ALWAYS respect them.

Thanks!!
You comment us, and I would like to comment you. These are the posts that count: that don't undermine anyone.
All I can say is man along with this game I cannot wait to see that band...personally HT's half time shows have been on the comedic side. Band playing: great; movement: not so much; Drum majors dance: HILARIOUS!

Anyone see anything interesting?
1. played absolutely horrible rivals during regular season - look at their final regular season records, most (6 teams) had big and nasty losing records
2. clear creek had losing record 4 wins and 6 losses; so including the first game of playoffs they played 7 teams with horrible losing records and two teams with slightly winning records (7-3 and 6-3)
So All of FB hightower's 2008 stats are skewed towards their pathetic schedule, perhaps one of the most lame schedules in all of class 5A football
CR almost beat them and CR was ranked very low in top 25 at end of season; Im not sure how FB HT could be ranked so high during regular season based on their reg season schedule. It must solely be based on their last year's performance and those coming back this year.
Still, Allen better not underesrtimate them because HT's 2nd - 4th games of the tournament were against good schools, while SA Clark was NOT a good school. SA Clark's bracket was the worst in the state.
Judging by the points scored in last several games, Id say FBHT's defense is over rated, while their offense should definitely be treated with respect.

All those talking about HT's soft schedule can shush. Regular season and playoffs are 2 different worlds. In the playoffs, HT has defeated North Shore, Cinco Ranch, Pearland, and Clark in consecutive weeks. That's about as hard a stretch as you will find in high school football over a 4 week period.
Now I haven't said anything about Allen's road in the playoffs. The point of my post was not to down Allen, as their schedule has been just as difficult if not more so than HT's. Rather, it is to tell all the people claiming HT will get rolled because of their easy schedule to be quiet (in nice terms :p) Oh, and watch out for #12 on HT. He gon get cha :ninja:
My prediction based on no facts and nothing more than gut feeling:
HT 38
Allen 34

Do you even go to the games?
54 yard punt return against trinity for touchdown
16 yard touchdown on a reverse against OP
7 yard reverse for touchdown against Coppell
also 15 and 18 yard TD receptions.
I went to all games except Rockwall.
EZ is arrogant! He's got a big mouth.
I dont like cocky braggers that are not the best.
Mohammed Ali was the only exception Id excuse.
My point is that psychology plays a big part of the game and its easy to see Allen's on the field.
Their defensive line got man manhandled by Round Rock last Sat. We got very lucky. We did not dominate offense either.
EZ was entirely absent this game
Jeremiah (no comparison, but EZ is not a rusher)
Dakari ( no comparison; more than double the yds, almost triple the yds per carry and much more than double the TDs)
Bradlee (more than double the total yardage and more than double the average yds per reception)
Matt Brown (reg season stats blows them all away in rushing)
are all better players than EZ
So EZ is at most 5th best on team, but not consistently reliable for points or yards.

i got a bad feeling about one thing on allens side..and before i say this know Im pulling for allen...its coach westerberg....hes playing at times is mind boggling (the best game he called all year was trinity) but putting matt brown in a game that he hasn't played in and now your putting him in??? if he wanted to get him in the game do it sooner..to me it sent a bad message to tucker..he basically was saying you aren't playing bad but I don't trust you can win it for us??? then he puts reeves in on offense (dont disagree with this move because he may be the best athlete we have) BUT why not get him in the game sooner....i feel like he has no trust in the kids and really has no idea what he wants to do on the offensive side of the ball without a big time playmaker or a qb that just can throw it all over the place...the great coaches aka todd dodge can rip apart a defense no matter what they have...think about it every year allens best players play offense usually why is that?? cuz westerber doesn't know what to do with the avg. joe kid

I like your intensity, but I take great exception to you calling out Eazy on a forum like this. If there is anything he needs to learn about humility, you and everyone else ought to let him learn it his own way and in his own time.
Please try and put your energy in trying to lift people up instead of taking shots at them. What about the contribution of Cameron Deniz and Kenon Turner and Marcus Thomas and Jake Humphries? These are guys that don't get top billing, but they are part of the team! These guys are winning because of the team!! :)
Thanks,
~

Thought I would post this link for anyone who has a facebook. Its the Allen v HT event. It was created by a HT kid and despite being a HT grad myself I cant help but find events that one sided as boring so I thought I would help out Allen fans and post the link here.
Hope this event page stays friendly being that it will be mostly hs or college kids. Any Allen posters are welcome to add me as a friend being that we have probably discussed common grounds here on this site...always nice to put a name to a face. You can find me on that event page as Sam Weeks under attending, likewise for any HT posters that I do not personally know.

In my opinion, Hightower matches up very well on defense and special teams. I will be interested to see how their offense does against Allen. Hightower doesn't have a great running game, and I would say that's their main weakness on offense. They do have a talented tailback in London Hamilton and Highsmith can also keep it on the zone reads. Athletically, Hightower is similar to Stony Point.

but what i am saying is that Hightower will have more fans at the game then Allen because Allen HS is over 5 hrs away
I wouldn't bet the ranch on that one. Plain old everyday regular season away games the Allen crowd typically outnumbers the home teams by a lot.
Four and half hours down I-45 for a state championship is nothing.
I am expecting a terrific game and counting on Allen to git 'er done one more time.

Mornin' everybody!
I'm kinda diggin' the way this thread is going here.
I know NOTHING about Hightower, but . . . . . .
I do KNOW that they are a great team.
No team in the finals is a "push over" team, etc.
Both teams have smacked their heads against brick walls to get here.
HT fans . . . . .
Don't let the "trash-talk" affect your view of how Allen,as a team and community, think about you guys. Nuthin' but respect is going through OUR MINDS about y'all.
It's funny how "we" can trash-talk about eachother when we know NOTHING ABOUT EACHOTHER really. We live so far apart that we don't hear anything about eachother until week 15 and 16.
Anyway, thanx for all the positive talk and info about your team.
Be assured that both communities have great pride in our teams! That's the way it is suppose to be. We should be proud of what "our" kids have accomplished.
Now . . . . .
GO EAGLES !

I gotta respond to some of the posts on here:
3. How deep is Allen's band? I'd like to know since I'm in the Hurricane band. And are they good?
600 kids - the 12th man. Biggest marching band on the planet. Fill the field end zone to end zone at half time. UIL is talking about making the regulation field 120 yards just to accommodate the Allen band. Sudler Shield winner (an international award - at the time only one of five Texas bands EVER to receive the award.) Selected for the Rose Bowl Parade a couple of years ago. Straight Sweepstakes at UIL from the dawn of time.
So yeah, they're good.
5. I'd like to know how you become the #2 hs team in the world.
Show up every week, listen to commentators openly root for the other team and then talk about how the other team was not on top of their game and then watch the Saturday night highlight reel on WFAA feature the losing team.
And then gut it up and go win another game.
Stony Point was an awesome win for Allen - even Mother Nature favored the other team's style over Allen. STP won pretty much every statistic you can imagine except the one that mattered most - points on the board at the end of the game.
Allen gets it done. In the face of tremendous adversity, sometimes it looks a little ugly, but they still get it done.
I am sure Hightower is a terrific team - I just think Allen is going to win Saturday. It's our time.

i got a bad feeling about one thing on allens side..and before i say this know Im pulling for allen...its coach westerberg....hes playing at times is mind boggling (the best game he called all year was trinity) but putting matt brown in a game that he hasn't played in and now your putting him in??? if he wanted to get him in the game do it sooner..to me it sent a bad message to tucker..he basically was saying you aren't playing bad but I don't trust you can win it for us??? then he puts reeves in on offense (dont disagree with this move because he may be the best athlete we have) BUT why not get him in the game sooner....i feel like he has no trust in the kids and really has no idea what he wants to do on the offensive side of the ball without a big time playmaker or a qb that just can throw it all over the place...the great coaches aka todd dodge can rip apart a defense no matter what they have...think about it every year allens best players play offense usually why is that?? cuz westerber doesn't know what to do with the avg. joe kid
Putting Matt Brown in the game was a bad call but he was trying to get something going. Allen's O hadnt done anything all day long so he was just trying to make something happen. But thankfully Matt Brown couldn't go bc i think he would have chose to run more when Tucker (a coaches son) has the poise to sit in the pocket and double check receviers.
As for putting Reeves in the game. i bet he will play a lot saturday both ways. You just cant keep a game changer off the field in such a big game.
EZ is also 18yrs old and having the time of his life man. You need to have some cockyness on your team to ease some nerves.
And finally you got to remember that Westerberg has been this far leading a dominant Garland team in 99? where he was the O-Coordinator for Joe Martin. So he knows what he is doing even if sometimes it boggles your mind.

Consider this intangible...this last game against SP might have opened some eyes for the Allen Eagles that may have begun to close a smidge after that epic win over Trinity the week before.
I think Allen's chances of being overconfident this week are slender to nonexistent. That's a big plus for Allen, imho. They play their best football the weeks after a close game.

I am very careful when it comes to second guessing what Coach Westerberg was doing on offense. I thought they should have tried more short dump/outlet passes with the corners clearing out chasing after the WRs. The middle was open. The problem with that is the defense of Stony point was closing down the pocket so fast and the RB either had to block or had a hard time releasing from the backfield it wasn't working.
Westerberg is the man that must take ultimate responsibility but, The coaching staff is a team!. Coach Fleener and coach Westerberg are in constant communication for the offense and all the other position coaches are providing feedback about what they see happening and strategy to adjust.
The reason things seem mind boggling to the fans is because we are on the outside looking in.
Putting Matt in when he did was the right move. Matt would only go in if the situation was dire and it was. Matt is a spark plug, he is a playmaker he is the guys that led this team the entire year. When you are in a do or die situation you have to use all your weapons and I think it was the right thing to do.
I don't see that it is in any way sending a bad message to Tucker. Tucker is a smart patient and poised team player. Boy did he show it Saturday!! He showed some major trust in the "O" line and they worked their butts off to protect him. Tucker took his shots and came up a winner. Coach Carter needs to get some BIG props not only for raising such a fine son but for coaching such a great bunch of kids on the "O" line!!
The problem I see when coming down so hard on the Allen Offense/Coaches is that it doesn't give the Stony Point Defense and their coaches enough of the credit. I have seen about 30 games this year and that defense was THE TOUGHEST I have seen all year! :notworthy
Any of the analysts feel free to step in here to comment...
Just like the Plano folks waving their past championships in our faces, I call BS on your bringing up Dodge, "the great coaches aka todd dodge can rip apart a defense no matter what they have..." That Stony Point defense would have had Dodge's 2006 team stepping and fetching for their lives just like they did Allen. In a 35-40 mile an hour wind! You're killing me!!
You say "...think about it every year allens best players play offense usually..." What a disrespectful thing to imply about the players on the defense!! LOOK AT THE ROSTER!! OMG!!
THe thing I hope we do agree on is that we have lots of players flying below the Superstar radar. The way I see it the coaching staff is doing a great job at getting the best out of the players. Don't get me wrong, I think we have some Super Star players and the colleges think so as well.
The biggest difference I think this year is that they are playing as a team! Coaches, Players, Trainers, Parents.
Show some love man!! :)
As for Hightower, I have lots of respect for them and everything I hear puts them right up there with the Stony Point's. I don't see how anyone would not give them the respect they deserve. With that said I think the experience that the Allen coaching staff has after the Stony Point game is going to go a long...... way to help with the Hightower game.
So Thank you, thank you, thank you, to Stony Point for taking us to school and showing us what we have to do to become STATE CHAMPIONS!!! Whether you like it or not we are taking you to the state championship game with us. A team cannot experience what the Allen team did against you guys and not take it with them.

I went to the Pearland game, and was not overly impressed w/ Hightower. Yes, they had some team speed, and did not fold under pressure, but for a regional championship game, I was expecting more.
They seemed hesitant to kick off deep, prefering 9 iron shots to the 35 yard line. I think this is an admission of them thinking their coverage team is not as good as their defense.
I looked at the FBH - NS stats, and it seems NS fumbled a bunch and had a horrible punt average. I take it that they had at least 1 blocked. NS out gained FBH 2 to 1, mostly through the air. I assume that as FBH stacked the line against them and NS threw over them. Did FBH sneak out w/ a win there? FBH did this to Pearland as well, and on defense had 11 men inside of 5 yards from the line of scrimmage most of the game. Pearland's pass offense was below average for that level of game.
Allen has a very good set of cornerbacks and some respectable LBs on defense. Their pass offense is superior to Pearland's and they can move the ball on the ground. Their RB and Burkhead are the only RBs to gain over 100 yards on Trinity this year.
I don't see that the match up is that close.

Allen didnt get off to a great start against SP, and had to outlast a very good team last week. This might spell disaster for HT. We are batlle tested, winning games in a variety of ways. This week the players will have a different mindset coming out of the tunnel. These kids are 17 and 18 and had just came off of the biggest win in school history. What a recipe for an emotional letdown. Believe me they will play with more intensity, fire, spirit, or whatever superlative you choose. A balanced attack, good special teams, and opportunistic defense have worked thus far this year. NOthing changes Saturday, and the "Eagles will soar over Reliant"

I think Allen will win this, probably big, BUT
switch Allen with HT and SP with NS or Cinco and the HT fans can say the same thing.
HT was supposed to lose to NS but found a way to win, and they were supposed to lose to Cinco, but found a way to win (although they were beaten in the stats of each game).
I think Allen will win b/c they are just as determined as HT, with a better overall team. But I guess NS thought that as well.

This game will come down to what all games end up being.
Execution and mistakes, or lack thereof. Team speed, size, skill players, whatever, unless you are completely outmanned, you just have to make plays.
Allen was beaten last week in practically all the statistical categories except the one that matters most. You make plays and you win, you don't and you lose.
Since both teams are in the finals for the first time and will surely be all jacked up, I will be watching to see who settles in and plays their game first. Should be very entertaining.

I have seen both RRSP & Hightower(not Allen) play this season on numerous occasions, HT has much more speed both & defense than RRSP. The winner of this game will be the team who that not turn the ball over. Both teams have high caliber (D-1) athletes, I expect a close game and predict Hightower will win by a FG.

Comments about HS football are spot on.
However what was not mentioned by anyone was that SP played in Floyd Casey Stadium for the 3rd time in a row during playoffs, while it was first time for Allen. So SP was very familiar with the stadium by the time they played Allen. So in a big way it was like home turf for SP.
Allen negative is that they have a long bus ride and HT cheats with game played in back yard - not exactly half way. But both teams have not played at Reliant.
Allen psychology after big wins is to relax.
They did this after Plano Wildcats 56-23 win.
They did this with SP after Trinity win.
I dont see this as a factor for this game and Im sure they will know that since last game was way too close,, that overconfidence is not an issue.

Well...most of Pearland was rooting for Friendswood to pull out a win over Lake Travis...but with that being said now I remember how most of the Friendswood community acts.
Thanks though.
And on another not I have to pick Hightower in this one because of the speed and strength they produce...as well as the slight home feild advantage ha....Especially with some of the people talking how Hightower barely won etc. and how bad they will lose. the second round matchup was a top five ranked showdown against North Shore...Shore had the same issues that Hightower had..they were a strong team, playing in a very weak district....The matchup lived up to all the hype, and in the end, Hightower, who led all game until late in the fourth, came from behind to win 28-21.
..
nm......I figured it out.

I haven't read through this whole thread, so I apologize if this has already been clarified.
...
The part about who plays on which side...for the D2 game, Katy is away (east) side and white jerseys.
If it is like last year, my guess is it will be the same for Hightower.
IMO, the turf for the later D1 game will be a factor.
Good week of preparation for both teams!

I love that the Allen posters are so arrogant, egotistical, and sure that they will win the game.
Keep it up because everyone that we have played in the playoffs had the same attitude...and they all lost.
Hightower will bring the title back to Houston.
You know, going back through this thread, I think about 5 HT posters have a total of 6 posts. I like it. All business. No fooling around, just business.

Possible light showers on Saturday though in the mid 70's so not cold at least :p at least for the afternoons might drop down to a low in the 40's saturday night dunno when that will go in effect though
Well, I have been a bystander for quite some time, so I figured I would join in and go for my first post.
I'll start with an opinion: I was at the SP/Allen game, if it werent for the wind, I think Allen would have won that game by two touchdowns. The SP Defense had no answer for the Allen passing game, even against the wind. Yes, in the first half, Allen's O-line was dominated. But adjustments were made and the QB got some protection.
With that said, I think without wind as a factor (and a questionable playing field) I take Allen in this one 27-21. However, if the Allen QB throws his first pick, I take Hightower with the same score.
You know, going back through this thread, I think about 5 HT posters have a total of 6 posts. I like it. All business. No fooling around, just business.

Allen beat Plano 56-23?! Holy cow...thats really really impressive. Just like the Allen band; thats a ridiculous size obviously. We have around 140, but I believe everyone will see why we're our team's 12th man also. We might not be as loud, but we got SOULPOWER! And Im white lol. But in response to the ppl saying HT is not underrated: you're right! I had no idea we were ranked so high! Thats awesome! But the reason why HT fans think that we're taken for granted, at least why I thought, was because the Houston Chronicle gives us no props. We were on the front page when we beat North Shore, but the headline was ROCKY ROAD TO RELIENT or something like that. It was viewed as this huge upset at the time. But let me say that the more I hear about Allen, the more impressed I am. Mad respect.

Reliant is in houston Genius hightower is 15 minutes from there so hightower is home it just more logical because then the left side of the bracket will always be home but what i am saying is that Hightower will have more fans at the game then Allen because Allen HS is over 5 hrs away
Obviously, you don't know Allen. RR Stony Point is less than an hour away from Waco and Allen had 4 times the fans there. Allen has Greatly outnumbered the fans in every playoff game this session. Hats off to Permian. They had more fans than any other team Allen has played, but still much less than Allen

I'm done with the Wylie/Katy thread. It started out well, then got to someone talking about someone's friends girlfriend. Then it went to more talk about the game... and then a pot started calling the kettle black. So, I'll read up on this game and post some thoughts tomorrow.

Hey '32,
It is the first day since the Semi's . . . . . . .
No one is taking you lightly!
now . . . . .

Allen faces an undefeated Hightower (a Hightower team that beat North Shore) this week; I put Allen as the underdog.
Hightower features a great defense, and a great Stony Point defense held the Allen offense to 16 points.
Allen will need to conjure a little more magic to bring home the title. They need to find a way to win.

Allen 2.78 (1) 47.52 (7) 56.20 (7) 30.75 (3) 64.51 (1)

Hey, just about anyone's stats from Texas 5A HS football would be great if they played teams from Puerto Rico's junior varsity.
Only 3 of HT's games mean anything at all, everything else was garbage.
Funny that HT has the edge in all of this and Allen are the underdogs. Im glad it's being played like that.

And what calls would those be, the offsides on the defensive end or the mugging of the reciever? STP had a total of 3 penalties the entire game, 2 of them just happened to be on the last drive when the game was on the line and they needed a stop. How bout the pick six, not all games are won by stats, but I do believe that all of them are won by points. Go to Maxpreps.com and look at the photos from the Allen/STP game and see all the non calls against STP. ;)

Hightower results are skewed? They played who was on the schedule and dominated everyone in their district, exactly what good teams are supposed to do. Playing & beating in consecutive weeks #2 NS, Cinco Ranch & #6 Pearland is not a fluke. Hightower is good! Another thing the HT players are confident but no way they will be over confident vs Allen.
I know this if Allen had trouble passing the ball vs Stoney Point, they better be able to run effectively. HT secondary is one the best hs groups I have ever watched. Their pass rush is pretty damn effective too.

The fact is that both teams have done what they had to to get here. I have never seen Allen play so I cannot praise what they do best, but here's what I can say for HT and attribute to their success thus far: It all comes to down to their active adjustments, using what works, and keeping the offense off balance. Ive seen AJ regularly hit Darius Johnson downfield when the running game wasn't working. Ive seen London Hamilton make drive after drive from the 20 yard line and not get a single break in between plays to result in a touchdown. Ive seen Jake Kane hit 50 yard field goals since he was a sophomore and regularly put kickoffs behind the end zone resulting in HT regularly having the advantage of field position.
As far as defense, that's where the adjustments are key. Ive watched teams jump to an early lead on their first drive and keep it through the first half. However the second half will be a nightmare for the oppositions offense while HT's will find ways to punch holes or drop bombs downfield. Colton Valencia at safety can knock guys down twice his size, Shaun Lewis will break through lines to find the carrier and trip him up with a max of 2 yards gain. And lastly is Philip Steward - an absolute beast who Ive seen take down 2 guys in one tackle, body slam the ball carrier, and literally grab guys from behind against their momentum and pull them back for the tackle.
As I said, I would like to see someones post about Allens reasons for being here. THIS IS NOT A POST CLAIMING HT TO BE ANYTHING BETTER!! I just thought people, those who are bad mouthing HT in particular, would like to see why we are here. Niether team has performed less than exceptional, but more in the field of unbelieveable, and I hope to see that continued by both sides on Saturday.

Good to know as none of the Missouri City FB Hightower folks have said much and very limited info available except a couple highlights on a AJ and DJ or one or two games that I've found? Have had lots of comments from other folks from CY, Canton and Huntsville provide their thoughts which are all good but not much from the Hightower folks? The Houston HSGametime seems to be lacking any writers or is hardly used as using the Dallas HSGametime link for this weeks preview? And the Houston Chronicle I guess has to many other teams to cover to say much about them? Only folks on here as you put it that I've seen "those who are bad mouthing HT in particular" have not been from Allen? I'm sure the coaches have seen all the tapes and what is available so will be ready.
As for Allen we have nothing to hide and there is tons of info and games on youtube with the best from BigDaddyDog (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=allen+eagles+football+2008&search_type=&aq=3&oq=allen+ea) has almost all our games. Think only Wylie, playoff Trinity and Stony Point games are not there. Allen had no problem passing on Stony Point as much as more the 25 mph wind with gust upto 40 mph. Even with that the winning TD came against the wind. I'm sure that won't be much of a problem at Reliant even with the roof open. As for DB's Allens are both DI players, A&M and Iowa State. Every week we get told we have not seen any defense as fast or as good as this one or speed kills. Allen has played some really good ones and still prevailed so one more time is not unthinkable. This should be a really good game between two good teams and like I said earlier will go with one of the most reliable computer pickers of Masseys of Allen by 3 points.

But your defense was pretty good. Keep the defense the same way it was and improve the offense. But if you play like you did this past saturday and the refs aren't on your side you won't win.
You said your dad is a ref? So he takes sides before a game?? Wow! So it sounds like he really does not know what he is talking about and should be reported.

So the question arises: Would Hightower have beaten RRSP? Would it have been close? Would Hightower have beaten Trinity? Would it have been close? There is no doubt that Allen BY FAR has had the toughest road to get to the playoffs. North Shore and The Woodlands were considered the elite to go to the top and yes, Hightower did take out North Shore, but RRSP took out the Woodlands.
My dad went to the North Shore/Hightower game; no doubt Hightower is a very good team with a very good defense. But I have to believe that Allen rolls here. The only question is can their 2nd QB keep it going.

lol if this even made sense. There were multiple flags on the last drive but once again you don't read. I said at some point in this on the last that drive there were flags that were bad and then some flags should've been thrown. Were you too busy trying to take shots at me to read? obviously you were.
Guess we are dealing with a child and newbie here who doesn't have a clue and should not be so harsh and welcome the moron to the board.
But since you haven't a clue as only two flags were thrown on the last drive. 1st was Mims jumping offisides and second was RRSP DB grabbing Peckonis and called holding, even though the writers called it PI. The refs called it holding as before the pass and only moved the ball 10 yds, not 15 for PI.
Besides that has nothing to do with this thread anyway as over with.
So only one thing left to say and will put it so you can understand:

HT played losers all season long including first playoff game. All their stats are skewed as a result.
If any team will be over confident, it will be HT.
Am i not allowed to state a fact?
and we did play a very strong eisenhower team, thankyou very much making it four teams... yes, we are in an extremely weak district but we did hold four very strong teams to 21....
and trust me when i say that hightower is taking the game very seriously, noone is over confident

You can not help what district you are in, and you can not help how good or weak the teams are. The only thing you can do is play the games on the schedule and win those, and Hightower has done a nice job of that....I just think when a team is from another area and is unknown, folks start looking for ways to compare.....

they had more than 3. Considering there were 4 in the last quarter. You need to check your stats. Lets see there should've been a pass interference on allen in the endzone. I was on the Allen side rooting them on. Theres just as many against you so stop trying to act like you know everything. My dad is a ref and said that Allen won on a bunch of crap calls/non calls
3 penalties for 25 yards, check your stats! You might want to get all your facts straight before you start posting, usually people make this mistake by posting with emotions not facts. How Allen played against RR has no bearing on how they will play against Hightower. If you had seen more than one game, you would have realized this. I haven't seen Hightower except in videos, so I will not comment on them, but I can tell you that each of these teams didn't get this far not being tested. It will be one hell of a game and I hope both teams bring it 110% so there are no excuses! ;)

Allen stretches the field with lighting fast quick hitter pass plays. If the can keep those Hightower linebackers confused and hit them in the mouth early and have a large lead at the half than Allen will win. On the other hand...any pass over the middle could result in hit we that will cause the stadium to shake! Have any of you Allen fans seen these guys hit? All 3 starting linebackers at Hightower play with a violent/extremely aggressive attitude. Someone said they have a weak rushing attack? Scout the Miami Hurricane commit and his ability to pass. They also have a receiver #12 that is as good as any of the Allen receiver's. Hightower can win if they weather the storm and get pressure without blitzing to often and win the turnover battle. Its been a great run for Hightower but it will end Saturday. Allen knows better after last week to not take a team lightly. I truly believe Allen was still celebrating the Trinity win and felt unbeatable. Just my opinion. Allen gets back on track and runs away with this one 45-21 and gets in every player in the 4th quarter besides Brown unless he takes the victory formation knee-he has another year left-like they say"Dance with who brung ya";)).Tucker Carter:notworthy

I have no doubt Allen is a very good team, but to think they will hang 41 pts on the Canes "D" is comical imo. The Cane defense has not giving up more than 21 pts in a game all year. With this said I do believe the two best teams in the great State of Texas play Saturday night. The difference in the game imo will be the play of HT SR. QB A.J. Highsmith he is cool as they come. AJ has been the starter on Varsity since his sophmore year and has been playing lights out the last few weeks. Go Canes!
