There's been talk about it in various polls, but I just wanted to see what everyone thought about the 2005 team compared to the last 4 years.

I tend to think that this is quite possibly the best we've had. 2002 was when we really came out with the spread offense and dominated schools that had never seen it used effectively. A lot of our success that year was because of, but not limited to, the quick strike offense that nobody could seem to get a grasp on. One thing they did have that we don't this year is an exceptional special team unit with Garrett Hartley and Tre Selari at punt return.

2003, while a great team, obviously did not measure up to the others. I still cringe when I see footage from That game on tv. *shudder*

Last year's team was amazing. The play off games were some of the best I've ever seen, with Abilene and the SV games coming to mind. Aaron Luna was dominate in pretty much all aspects of the game, and the offense was bigger and tougher than they had been.

This year has been a combination of almost everything good from the last few years. The offense is just as explosive, except deeper with a strong rotation going in. The one thing I really think about though is the unstoppable defense. We haven't had a first half touchdown in playoffs yet. Impressive, and even more so when you consider our opponents: Irving Mac, Allen, and 'I can guarantee a win' Abilene. The special teams were rough at the beginning of the season, but have steadily improved over the season and are definitely a force to be reckoned with. With an offense as great as those in past, and with a defense to match it, I can't help but see this year at the top. Their playoff run has been extraordinary, and I expect the same determined play for the next 3 weeks.

The season isn't over yet, and if we don't get the title, then I'd be hard pressed to stick with my choice. But just from what I've seen and know, 2005 is the best yet.

Beat Irving Mac! Err..I mean Abilene! Oh wait, Plano! They're all the same after awhile ;)

i agree with what you have to say, although you could've posted it in one of MANY threads about this. And also 'an unstoppable defense', isn't that an incorrect idiomatic phrase since defense does the stopping. it would be the offense that's unstoppable. anyways...ill stop being a jerk:D

I thought those sub-5A championship runs you had in the late 80's and early 90's were pretty impressive, and those may very well be the best teams, although depending on what happens in the next few weeks, the 5A mark may be on the verge of equalling or surpassing the impact made 15 years prior.

I agree. 2005 is the best team ever in Southlake. However, that is not implying they can't be beat. They can. However, if they play up to their potential and don't make mistakes they are clearly favored to collect ring 6 in 2005.

It takes a great team and some good fortune to win state in Texas.

Yeah, sorry Crew, I know there are about 15 of these threads out there. I just felt like talking football, offer a few opinions of my own. Needed to talk football, I'm in multimedia and I'm dying waiting for the game tomorrow lol

Such threads raise purely hypothetical comparisons. The teams will never play each other and the conditions present when each existed differ.

For example, '02 and '03 teams were putting forward spread-o that most teams had not seen before, much less had a chance to really figure out. The '04 and '05 teams do not have that same situation and have to utilize other tactics. Similarly, the raw talents and experiences for each team is different. The key attribute, or what can be said that has been consistent over time, is that the mix of kids put out on that field have blended well together and have been able to get the job done (most of the time anyway). That has a lot to say for the coaches in sizing up and preparing the kids as well as the will, determination and heart the kids bring to the field.

Trying to declare an all-time best just doesn't really matter - there will never be a proof - so it is just a bunch of guys arguing the nuance or limits with no definitive answer. Have fun with it - but recognize the limits of the discussion.

Your 03 team was your best. You had a awsome kicker, Linebacker and Oline. The talent on that team exceeded the rest. Just because they lost dosent make them any less of a team. That was prob your best defense.

2002 team gave up only 10 points a game on defense and averaged one defensive touchdown per game during the regular season. When talking defenses in 5A it is definitely a between 2005 and 2002.
