I used to have a '96 Camaro z28 my first two years of college then I sold it because gas was too expensive. Hunter green with t-tops, Bose surround system, leather, LT1 V8, the top of the line for the '96. I miss that damn thing:(

Not really a hot-rod, but a hot truck. A 1998 Dodge Dakota R/T. 360 V8, K&N Cold Air Induction, Goodyear Eagles, aero bed cover, alloy rims.

What? The 360 is good engine. I'm not a huge Dodge fan (I drive one) but I do like the 360. It's a little hard on gas, but worth it in power IMO.

I like the 360. It's a great engine, but as you noted a bit hard on gas. The K&N and dualed out exhaust with flowmasters I put on help out a bit. I love the truck, but I am considering changing over to a more sedate car when I get a bit more saved up. It'll always have a special place in my heart. I got it with less than 20,000 on the odo.....shiny black with red 5.9 R/T decals.....still get a thrill whenever I fire it up and listen to the rumble. Back when I got it and was 18 it was pretty much a dream machine. Some good memories in that truck.

I know I will. But sometimes you have to bite the bullet. In a few years I am hoping to move overseas where I won't have the need for it though.
My dad still gets misty eyed when he talks about his ride from back in the day...a 1960's Frogeye Austin-Healy Sprite Roadster with the racing tranny and engine that he built up and restored himself. Recaro seats, the works. He wishes he hadn't sold it as well.

Noice.
What powerplant do you plan on running in it?
Being a Ford man, I'd suggest massive. hahaha.. Really, though I'd suggest 351M not "W". 351C if you can find one (good luck). 302 is hard to be beat for weight and decent power with no addons.
Or, you could find you a wrecked out 80's mustand with the generation 1 EFI and put it in. That would be a sweet deal.
Or you could just run you a 460 punched out to about 516cubes and get'er done.

its a 302 bored out to a 351, should push 300 horses.

that'll be nice. Pushing that 302 that far out will be a bit tricky.. but the end result should be really fun.
Ya, if you got matching numbers and stuff and are going for true restore, that's the way to go keeping it real and all. I hope you'll post some shots when you get it done. I'd like to drool on my screen for an old skool 'stang.

You should try your best to go totally stock. It will be driveable stock...hell, people drove the things back when they were new. This isn't some sort of Italian exotic, it's a Mustang. Plus you'll have a great conversation piece.

Blasphemy! I can understand wanting to firm up the suspension as those older American cars can really roll around. The only other mod I'd make is of course some modern tires to put all that power to the ground. It's ridiculous how those old tires hampered the great muscle cars' performance.

Takes some getting used to and you really have to muscle it around. I honestly can see why you would want to go with it if you want to make the car your daily driver. Also, that old Mustang is a pretty big car to drive without it, it's not like a little British roadster that you can really throw around. Tough call, but I like giving you a hard time.

So I spent today out at the lake working on the pony, and I discovered a few things:
1) Sparks are awesome
1b) Grinders are therefore also awesome
2) Sparks are really hot
3)They tend to find those gaps between your gloves and sleeves, shoes and pants, etc.
4) Heavy metal synchronized with sparks is also awesome.
Anyways, you guys asked for pics:

The only thing I had that was close to muscle/hot rod was a 94 Chevy 1500 w/ a 350ci V8. Single cab long bed, it was a beast
I want a Camaro though. I could have gotten an 02 SS when I got my Impala and it woulda been the same price BUT insurance would have killed me

7.000 quarter mile. 0 - 140 in a little over 4 seconds in the eighth mile. Almost 180 in the quarter mile, if I do my job correctly. YeeHaa.
Anyway, wifey drives a 1995 Impala SS. Not technically a hotrod, but as long as I tell her that, she is okay drivin it. Thing goes like stink, especially from 75 on up. AND it gets a little over 20 mpg!

The boat in my picture from the previous page, is a 547 CID, methanol fuel, blown Chevy based (Dart) block. Using solid (no water jackets) Brodix heads (Big brodies).
The rods are close to $1000, lasting 25 miles (100 "laps"). Same with Pistons.
Horsepower varies, depending on state of tune, but if we HAD to, we could probably squeeze about 1700 HP out of it a couple of times.
All through ONE 11"ish prop, turning just north of 20,000 rpm.
As you can see, it's enough to lift the back of the boat OUT of the water, and force it onto it's sponsons.

Anything..haha.. I'm not a GM fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I've witnessed many of them move down the track at a high rate of speed. If it were me and I had the stuff and time, I'd go with something with a fiberglass body and invest in a very well made roll cage. That way you dont have to spend extra dosh compensating for the weight of steel. Firebird. Camaro. Hell, drop that engine off into an old Vega. That'd be a trip.
I currently am the proud owner of a 460 and a 429CJ. Hoping to one day have the time, place, and dosh to get it forced into a mid '90's Cougar.

Yep, we run Pro Modified class, a 7.000 index. We have lost, running a 7.005!
We have lost, running a 6.994.
But, yea, from a "cost reduction" standpoint, we are actually pretty good with parts. If it would stay stable enough, we could add some more HP to the boat, and go 210 - 215. In going to that state of tune, you are rebuilding stuff after EVERY run. It isn't any fun after that.
After a run, mechanically, we run the valves, check for any leaks (fuel system, oil, etc), check plugs. We also download data, to check egts (cylinder temp getting too hot as an example), oil pressure, shift data,a nd prop rpm vs engine rpm. There are 300 other things going on, but engine rebuilding is NOT one of them!
