Okay, now that the 5atexasfootball.com rankings have been released it is coming closer to Dave's rankings being released in his annual magazine. We all know the best thing for him to do is surf on over to this site and copy down the Top25, but Dave has to have his sleepers in there also. Before some get all upset, yes Dave's magazine is the Texas football bible, yes he does ALL classifications, and yes he also has to worry about college and pro reviews.
Who are your longshot bets to make the initial Campbells' Top 10, ala Humble last year, Houston Washington and DeSoto in '03? What valley team will squeak into the Top 25, like Brownsville Rivera in '04?
I'm guessing a Leander or Pflugy makes the Top 10 and Laredo Nixon will make it into the 25 this year.

Pflugerville #2 was ludacris last year. Plain and simple. Brownsville Rivera as 22 either last year or the year before was the same. I probably could have named close to 75 or 80 teams that could have beaten them. And Dave never shows us (Leander) any love in his mag, no matter how good we played the year before. They year we went to the quarterfinals he had us finishing 5th in our district. I'll say that hes gonna say Pflugerville wins district, followed by RR McNeil, and he'll say Cedar Park will make the playoffs, regardless of how many people they have lost. Just my humble opinion.

in all actuality, Brownsville Rivera was probably the MOST TALENTED team in the RGV last season, the entire team was fast and they had alot of size, the problem with them was that they suffered some tough breaks, 2 to be exact, they lost a nail biter to 12-1 SanBenito and a FLUKE to Brownsville Pace....the teams they did beat included Region 4 Finalist LaJoya who went 10-3.....Rivera was a really good team, certainly one of the best in the RGV and IMO Rivera could have competed against several teams upstate..

My money is on Lubbock Coronado. They had one good year last year and he's probably wetting himself. Donna could be in there too.

The possibilities for a team to be in Dave's Top 10 are endless...not enough spots to do an actual poll, sorry.

If you want to see which teams to list, look for the teams in the Texas Football Classic and the teams with the top QB's. He always favors those teams.

Okay, you are right and I change my guesses. SA O'Connor will be in the top 10, and McAllen will be in the top 25 somewhere. Take that to the bank...

Colleyville Hearitige will be a top 20 team (because of Ponder), and La Joya will be in the top 25.

I'll take some of that action Pack0808...
2td's...I'll take the under. Man that's sad.
Since there are all of these crazy match-ups now..
We should push for a Laredo United South/Huntington game...
final score?....0-0.
Harlingen will be on his top 20

Harlingen is gonna be pretty damb good this upcomming season, IMO they will be contending for the regional championship this season with Judson and O'Connor and Victoria.....Harlingen is gonna be BAD!!! as for McAllen High, they dont belong in the classic, i doubt the RGV will show that team any love..

Okay, I am changing my prediction for the last time. I haven't seen one of the pre-release Texas Football magazines yet, but his top 20 games of 2005 are posted on his website and they tell all. Since Smithson Valley vs. Churchill is the 5th best game in the state and Churchill is also playing in the Texas Classic in the Alamdome to start the season, Churchill is a stone cold lock for the Top 10 in his preseason rankings. Keep in mind, that is a 7-3 team that didn't make the playoffs last year - in the top 10.
It is down to a toss up between McAllen and Harlingen for the crazy top 25 ranking though. RPM and RGV have both said Harlingen is the team that will crack the rankings, but you never know with Dave.

McHi shouldnt even be considered, they were only 5-5 last season and lost their 2 best players to graduation.....Harlingen is a legitimate top 25 team....they will be pretty damb good..

Harlingen is a legitimate top 25 team
Legitimate and Dave's 5a rankings don't go together though.

Good call on that one jrd. Good logic in your prediction. But I would still say the most bizarre pick might be Austin Westlake in the top 10  . Or at least this pick is a tie with the Churchill pick. That poll lacks credibility IMHO.

I second that...this is the crazy picks right...LOL! I dont think they belong in the top 25..i just figured in order to sell more mgas he put an RGV team in there..I from Donna I should know..LOL!

I agree with Go Chaps. This will be the most talented Westlake team since their last trip to the finals against Lufkin.

Most talented Westlake team since 2001 doesnt mean much. That doesnt translate into a #8 ranking in texas.

Where can I get one? I thought they didn't come out for a couple of weeks, except for the early release in Waco at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
