But why is SLC setting on the east side of TS and Plano on the west? That makes no sense. The rumour going on at my school(which granted is a CISD school) was that the Plano High Band Director wanted to be on the west side because SLC is used to being on that side and by having SLC on the east side that will somehow take the Dragons out of their "comfort zone."
Well last year when we played Lufkin at FC, we were on press box side and won by 4(I think...maybe 5). This year we were on the other side when we played Abilene and you know what that score was.
But pick a seat paw people...I'm very confident in my team....from any seat in the house:D

Don't believe every rumor. I know people in the Plano Band Booster club and have talked to their director. He is a graduate of PSHS and a supporter of the football team, but I do not believe he cares which side of the stadium Plano is on. I do not know how they decide who sits on which side, but I do not believe that Plano believes one side or the other is an advantage for either team. Plano has played on both sides this year and won. Plano has more victories in Texas Stadium than any other team besides the Cowboys, so again I don't think they are concerned about this.
Maybe someone with a luxury box influenced this. The last season Plano played at Texas Stadium several of the luxury boxes owned by Plano-based corporations were occupied with Paw banners hanging out of their windows.

I did a little research. I'm being told that if a neutral site is selected the two teams flip to determine who will be the "home" team. Whoever wins and is the home team, sits on the west side of Texas Stadium. Can anyone confirm that this is how it is done? I assume that this means Plano is the "home" team.

We've been home & visitors at TS, but in both instances we sat on the west side. I remember back in '02 the games vs. IMac & Sam Houston we sat on the east side of TS. I didn't go to the Allen game this year since I saw IMac had already beaten Allen and my collegiate team (Iowa) had a big rival game at the same time(vs. the Goophs). Did SLC sit on the east side for the Allen game this year. OMG, this just dawned on me, this is really turning into a meaningless thread:eek:

He's an incredible band director. While all the other bands are putting their crowds asleep playing arrangements of symphonies on the marching field, he has Plano playing jazz or rock'n roll. Plano is very fortunate to have him. It makes it even better that he grew up here and graduated from Plano. Go band!
What are they on, their 40th straight year of winning UIL sweepstakes?

I saw Plano play Arlington from our company’s lux box a few years ago. It was not that great of an experience compared to being in the stands with all the other fans. It felt more like watching TV than the sense of excitement you get in the middle of the crowd standing and yelling for your team. I have had other opportunities, but have turned them down. Food and bathroom access were nice advantages though.

last year we added ahhh tennese waltz? i think thats the name, that was rather interesting to do, what i liekd about it was we got to "dance" somewhat for like half the song it was kind of for the "old folk" but i have not heard word if we are doing it or not...but at this point what i know is the show will remain the same, i'll try to ask a section leader later tonight and i'll post an update if it changes

yea, we usually play it, just depends if we start off "sucky" or not, the 1q will usually depend on what we play and then the score in teh 4th q depends what we play as well...
this game the dragon band will NOT take off the 3rd quater off, were not getting soda and snacks after halftime like normally, they want to get us in the stands asap, since were going first they expect us to be in the stands before the football team comes out so if its a close game, you can expect hte dragon band to be ready

Plano tradition since 1986 - whenever our band plays March Grandioso all of the fans stand, wave their Paws to the beat of the March and yell P L A N O Plano! throughout the song. It is a major motivator for the fans and the team. Plano is famous for the thousands of Paws being waved in unison to the beat of March Grandioso. The only thing more fun to the Plano crowd is when the opposing team's band plays it. We do the same thing. Allen’s band no longer plays March Grandioso when they play Plano. Flower Mound played it this year and the you could not hear their band through the yells of the Plano crowd. A Midland newspaper reporter wrote that he had never seen fans that were as interactive as Plano's.

you know its funny how people use every factor on how a teams going to win a game.. I mean cmon who gives a rats *** on who sits on what side its no ones stadium but the cowboys and we better be glad enough that they even let the high schools use their stadium. But newayz fans are not a factor its strictly the players. And im just telling everyone now its going to be a very close and very interesting team. For the reason that me and my teammates are not phased by any success slc has had. That means nothing to us. SlC is going to play their best game they played all year against us..And we are going to come out ready to knock their teeth in..

Here's an article from the Ft Worth Star Telegram on our fans at the SGP game:
"IRVING -- It may be hard to find a fan base like the one currently following the Plano Wildcats.
Twenty-four minutes before Saturday’s Class 5A Division II Region I area-round game, Wildcats fans had already engulfed one side of Teas Stadium in a blanket of maroon.
Hundreds of others walked through a clogged concourse, and lines were deep with people waiting just to walk down the aisles to their seats.
This year has been one big party for Plano (12-0), a storied program that has won seven state titles and bounced back from a winless season two years ago.
“The city’s really rallied behind it,’’ said Jay Dinucci, a “Photo Dad” who was snapping pictures before the game. “It’s been pretty amazing. It’s been fun. You hate to see it end.
"You know it’s going to, but you hate to see it end.’’
As the band marched in on the field, fans waved their paw signs in unison. Another fan held up a blinking No. 1 neon sign that had “PLANO” printed down the numeral.
Those who weren’t at their seats already were in for trouble.
Plano resident Ben Elbel was among that group, but he was busy handing out paw signs until game time.
The large fan base has continually grown this season for Plano. Fans and coaches like to tell the story about a district game at Allen, which has a small stadium. Fans were warned to get there early.
When the team came out for its walk through before the game, Plano’s side was already packed.
“It’s been that way,’’ Elbel said. “Even at away games, we’ve had more people than the home team.’’
Before walking back to his seat to watch his son Tyler play Saturday night, Jim Cruz knew the night would have “a lot of electricity.’’
“Win or lose,’’ Cruz said, “they’ve had a good season.’’
It was a win, by the way: Plano 31, South Grand Prairie 24. "

from what I am hearing around town is that they are going to break the record and have 50,000 for this game. I highly doubt it, but I also thought that there would be no more than 17,000 for the Abilene game and that attendance number was reported as double so what do I know about attendance predictions

I was just kidding, I know that Plano fans really care for their football team and would probably stay the entire time. Sadly, I don't think that I can say the same for Carroll if the shoe was on the other foot. I think that you would see the green side severely diminished leaving just the hardcore fans and the parents of the players, not that many students would be left. That can happen to any team. I think most Plano fans will stay regardless of the outcome. In the 0-10 season I was very moved when the fans would stay to the end including the playing of the school song. The attendence was down to about 6,000 per game during that season. Good for most schools, not so good for Plano. Most fans will stay this week regardless of the outcome.

No offense, but why did they not build their stadium to be larger? With the growth surely they will need more room. It's a nice facility, but seems small for a 5A program like SLC.

well, they first started out trying to make a bigger stadium and that bond issue did not pass. There are many reasons why, but the main reason that I think it did not pass was because of the selfish nature of many of Carroll's residents. Many of them, I think, did not want the district to spend money on a stadium that they thought would only benefit the football players and their families. This was at the time when most of Carroll's population had very young children and they had just moved into the town, so they did not know about all of the benefits that a large football complex could bring. The next year they proposed a different bond that had a smaller amount of money allocated to the stadium. There are many things that I do not agree with when it comes to our local politics and community, but overall I feel that it is one of the best in the country. I cannot stand how they charge for parking and how they charge RV's double because they take up two spaces, yet I have seen people in trucks tailgating and taking up four.

PESH has a great band! Does she like their new director?
She's actually a 9th grader in the Clark Band, but a serious Band Groupie for East. She adores Jana Harvey who used to be at Clark. East had an awesome program this year. We especially loved their finale with the tight circle of kids.
My son did band several years ago too, so I have a real appreciation for the amount of work all of the band kids put into a performance. You have no idea how much everyone takes the band for granted when they aren't there for a big game.
During Fall Break one of the tuba players at PESH was killed in a tragic accident. The driver was another band student at PESH who was seriously injured. The directors felt it was best for the band not to perform at the game against Plano West that week. Out of respect, Plano West band also stayed home. It was a very somber game and quiet half-time. The bands were both greatly missed, but we all understood why they weren't there.

Robin Hood results in strange policies. I hate seeing ads on Plano's buses. We have not started charging for parking yet, but who knows.
Is the stadium designed to be expanded? Plano's new stadium holds 9,800 but can be expanded to 15,000.

the stadium has already been slightly expanded when the Dallas Burn installed bleachers behind the end zone. It looks like it could be expanded fairly easily and it would have been foolish for them to build a stadium that could not be expanded easily, but I would not put anything past our school board at that time. If they want to expand it they should propose the bond in the next few years to make sure that all of the band wagon fans jump on and vote for it. I doubt it will happen as the nobody knows what the state legislature will do for school funding

thats interesting, id imagine it can, we have one endzone that has the scoreboard and thats it, but hte bus lot is behind it, but i think they can add more, make a "bowl" shape or a "horseshoe"

East always has a great band program. Jerry Thomas was a super director and the new guy will be good too.
Clark always has one of the largest bands (along with Jasper). I can't wait until they realign the district. They are going to move Schimelpfenig to Clark and move all of Clark to PSHS. The rest of Jasper will go to West and PESH will have a new 9-10 school located in Murphy. Plano should have huge band after the realignment.

while it is not as serious of a reason, but I remember in 2002 when Carroll played, I think Flower Mound, and it rained extremely hard and there was a delay and the band went home. What surprised me was that a few trumpet players stayed behind and played the Charge like baseball games and a few other songs. It was about four kids that played and it was really cool for those that actually stayed for the game. It is very different when the bands are not there.

About 160. Used to be over 200 until they opened West. Will be back over 200 in 4 to 5 years.
Plano's band is louder than most 300 member 9-12 bands. Plano has only juniors and seniors in the band.
Their marching routine this year is the same one the University of Wisconsin marched to last year. They always play college level music for their UIL show. They will not be doing that show this week.

Plano tradition since 1986 - whenever our band plays March Grandioso all of the fans stand, wave their Paws to the beat of the March and yell P-L-A-N-O Plano! The paw signs started in 1986 but playing Grandioso goes back even further, to 1978 when Charles Forque took over the band. There's nothing like marching down the ramp into TS playing it!

That won't be happening any time soon. Until the district purchases land out East to build a 6th high school, things will stay the status quo.
There was some scuttlebutt with the school board about 2 years ago wanting to make Clark the split school between PESH and PSHS, and have all of Jasper go to West along with Shepton. Needless to say, nobody at Clark was happy about that. I don't know how Jasper folks feel about it since they've lived that way forever. I do think it's hard to build true school spirit when half of your kids will go one way, and half the other. Do you take the entire band to both cluster events? Which team do you cheer for at the annual Plano-PESH game? My daughter will easily be out of PESH before that ever happens, so my allegiance will stay with PESH no matter where Clark ends up as a feeder.

I'd guess their band is around 175 or so? Not exactly sure. PESH has about 225 in their band which I'm pretty sure is the largest one in Plano.
When the cluster bands show up, there are well over 500 students on the field for either Plano or PESH. West has the smallest band with around 120 maybe?
All top quality bands in Plano though! All 8 High Schools/Senior Highs scored 1's at UIL competition.

The land is already owned, it is the land to the north of Kimbrough Stadium. A drawing of the campus when the new HS is built was on the architect's web site. The next bond election will ask for the money to build the school. PISD expects the school to open either in 2009 or 2010.
Clark was expanded under the last bond election so that it can handle moving the Schimelphfenig students into Clark. Clark & Vines will feed to PSHS. Jasper (with only Rice and Robinson MS) and Shepton will feed to PWSH. Williams and the new Murphy HS will feed to East. There may be an interim period during which they split some of Clark's enrollment while the Murphy HS is getting up to full capacity. But from what I hear this is less and less likely because of the rapid growth in the East zone.
PSHS will have 3,000 to 3,200 students, West about 2,800 and East around 2,400 when the realignment is put in place. East will continue to grow, but Plano and West will be at their ultimate student populations and will probably go down some from there.
One other thing. The design limits of Plano West make it impractical to take all of Shepton and all of what is today Jasper's zone and feed it into West. West's shared facilities are designed to accomodate about 2,700 students from what I have been told. Jasper's and Shepton's combined enrollment is already over 3,200. Plano has the largest capacity of the three senior highs.

Plano has around 160. West has about 100 to 110 I believe. They are still growing their program. Shepton is much bigger this year and that should translate into West having a much bigger band in the next two years along with the kids from Robinson MS/Jasper that feed into West.
When you combine Vines and Clark with Schimelphfenig, Plano should have around 250 in their band. Clark always has the highest band particpation rate of any of the Plano 9-10 schools. Jasper's band is bigger, but Jasper has a much larger enrollment.
