This thread fails, because if you limit it to the 21st century, the guitarist could only be 8 years old.:D

Maybe so. Because I'd be really skeptical of the Technology that they're building into this generation's electric guitars. Can't help thinking if it's making them sound better. Or am I off base there?

You're off. You can distort the sound and do all kinds of crazy stuff, but that's all only as good as the fingers manipulating the strings.

There is no way page holds a candle to hendrix, and Zep is in my top 3 bands of all time. That dude was magic with a guitar that still hasn't been equaled.

I would respectfully disagree. I have much respect for Hendrix, but I think Page changed the face of music and he did it in a subtle way. I still say that simple riff he wrote for "Kashmir" is the greatest guitar riff ever written.

John Petrucci is the best of the current generation that I know of. He can play a wide range of styles and makes everything seem effortless. His solos have a lot of David Gilmour influence as far as the shear epicness.
I would also submit Chris Broderick and Herman Li.
