View Full Version : LSU Tigers & Dallas Cowboys
You rarely see LSU and Dallas wear their "Home" uniforms. What do they do to determine when they wear white or solid jerseys? Isn't it some sort of rule in the NCAA and NFL on this kind of thing?

I wish my Cowboys would do away with those green pants and wear their throwbacks.. the ones they wear on Thanksgivinv, all of the time.

I've always wondered about that. I mean they aren't actually "green" ..but they sure do have a green tint to them. What's the story with those pants?
I bet GoOwls knows...paging GoOwls...we need your insight on this one.

There are no rules that say sports teams have to wear a certain color. You must notify upcoming opponents what you want to wear. Traditionally:
NFL dark at home and white on the road.
NBA white at home and dark on the road.
NHL white at home and dark on the road.
MLB white at home and gray on the road.
Things got fouled up when teams started wearing alternate jerseys at home and not just white jerseys.
The Lakers were the last team to get a white jersey and they wear them for home games on Sunday. LA used to wear blue and yellow jerseys.
The Cowboys don't wear blue at home because they always thought it was bad luck in the 70's. That's why the NFC East teams wear their white jerseys at home to make the Cowboys wear blue. It all means that the Cowboys are going to wear white an average of 13-14 times each year.

Lonny,
Actually, only in the NFL and Baseball do teams get to choose (baseball to a lesser extent.) In the NFL the home team traditionally gets to pick what color, although they must give fair warning. The Cowboys have long held that the blue jersey's were unlucky, which is why they always wear white at home and away. My mother, a Cowboy fan if there ever was one, cringes at the sight of the blue jerseys.
For years only the Cowboys did that in the NFL, but it has gotten more popular, especially during hot weather, to wear the white uni's at home. One time the Denver Broncos got fined for "forgetting" their dark uni's, thereby forcing the home team to wear dark in hot weather.
NBA is always white home, dark away.
NHL switched in recent years, and is dark home, white away.
MLB is usually white at home, gray away, although a lot of teams have taken to wearing team colored- alternate uni's at home. (for example teh Astro's red, and the NY Met's black jerseys).
I don't know the history behind LSU, but I know that at one time the NCAA was a little stricter about what teams had to wear at home and away. I once saw LSU play in yellow jersey's and I then understood why they would never want to wear them.
I am all in favor of the Cowboys switching to the classy throwbacks they used twice this year.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Stars wear their alternate jersey (The bull one) at home on friday nights and it is dark, but if it was white would they be able to?

Not sure what I think about the white helmets, otherwise, I agree.

I think the NHL alternates the "white for home/dark for away" every few years. This year and last year they have worn the Dark jerseys at home, and the white on the road. But it switches every few years.
