You know, I think we should take a page from Californa. Keep the 1A 2A 3A 4A 5A the same, but include private schools, and have just ONE state champion in each class...there for we cant argue about the one true state champion, and private schools like Trinty Christain Acadamy, and Bishop Lynch cant say yeah we're better then y'all

Either of those two would get blown out big-time if they played a quality 5-A program...

Unless they've changed California doesn't even have "true" state champions. They have regions and the northern schools don't get to play the southern schools much. I found a site that lists the state champions by state and in 2004 there were 47 state championship teams in California.

I am very familiar with the private school ranks, I can not recall at anytime Lynch or Trinity ever saying they could compete with the big boys, both those two school's are happy in TAPPS, and neither even won a state title this past year. If you take the likes of Lynch, TCA, Midland Christian, Dallas Christian, Houston Second Baptist, St Thomas, Central Catholic and put them in 3A or 2A then yes those schools would compete. TCA has played Pilot Point very tough the last two years, and Midland Christian can't even get Midland Greenwood to play them. But never have those schools mentioned that they could compete with the big boys, they all know better. Lynch found that out the past two years when they played Highland Park.

The main controiversy does not seem to be the absense of private schools in the UIL playoffs, but this big school/small school split. This yields two champions in each classification. I agree that is silly, but then so is expanding the playoffs to four teams per district.
