I think the Plano "spirit" tends to be spooned out in large doses for some. I went to school there and I was annoyed by it half the time.

That, and we passed the legal limit for threads on a game a couple days ago.

Having said that, it may feel like a class reunion saturday. Very cool.

I was basically called a baby for saying this on another thread, but I really don't care.

Unfortunately, when someone wins without class it sticks in your memory alot longer than when someone wins with class. I was a BHS grad, and I was there in 1986 when you beat us in the state semis. What went on after the game was unforgivable, imo.

While I don't necessarily have anything against THIS year's Plano squad, the thought of seeing anybody that was involved in the bs that took place 18years ago sickens me.. Greatly...

So I am a poor loser for being pissed about Plano fans *and* players showboating around in front of our buses and taunting the players as they were leaving Texas Stadium?

I'm wrong for not liking that?

I think of the harassment of the SGP Drill Team and Band when they were lined up on the Plano side just before halftime was inexcuseable and classless. I did not realize it was tradition. I hope it is not. I will not repeat what was said here. If anyone on the SGP side of the stadium had done the same thing we would have had the class to stop it and deal with them. When I have brought this up in Plano where I work, I am told, that is the way it has been there for many many years. I still hope that this is a minority of folks and not what the "spirit" is really about. I am going to assume that for now.

I do not know what you are referring to, but this is not the norm for Plano. Usually the fans are very respectful to the opposing team's band and drill team. For a lot of these bands, playing to Plano’s home crowd is the largest crowd they will play to. Several times this year the Plano fans gave at least a partial standing ovation to the visitor's band.

I will take your word for it. That is the way it should be. It only takes a few folks to ruin the reputation of the larger group. There is a difference in backing your home school and degrading other schools. Some feel the need to do this to feel superior. They can come from any where.

It seems to be a growing problem. I attended a Plano West game this year. Some of their students were wearing shirts that said "Your Mom is my maid!" I thought it was in very poor taste. I know many kids at that school though and I do not believe this is representative of the majority.

At the Allen game the kids were spitting on the Plano fans. Some of the DeSoto kids referred to our girls with the B word. Again, I hope this is the exception, not the norm. Maybe it is a reflection of our society in general.

Most polite crowd of the year for us had to be away at Flower Mound. Nice school, nice stadium, friendly, polite fans, good sportsmenship. This is a great school.

We may boo the referees on occasion, but everyone knows the referees are always biased in favor of the other team. (just kidding of course)

I actually had to move my seat last week when there was a person sitting behind me that kept telling me that there was a conspiracy against Carroll and that the refs wanted Abilene to win. She kept it going through half time when Carroll was up 31-0 and that is when I very politely got up to go to the bathroom and never came back

Well there you go. I actually felt bad for even posting what I did after I submitted it. You know, this really is not the place to vent that ... I am sorry those things happened all the way around. I got to see some of the direct affects on some good kids. It takes a lot of guts to get dressed up in a cheyenne drill team or whatever outfit and perform in front a large crowd at Texas Stadium only to be verbally harassed and have things thrown at you. Part of growing up I guess. Lets just say that I had to hear this from the drill team director.

Ok, ok. Back to football. This has all the makings for a great game. I am hoping for a hard fought and entertaining game. I will be sitting on the SLC side. I hope we are focused on what is going on on the field and not so much with bouncing the ball around in the stands because SLC is up by four touchdowns. Nothing wrong with the bouncing ball but sometimes that is more competitive than what is happening on the field.

If PLano can get the former lettermen to wear the jacket as a sign of support I would be envious as a SLC fan. I think that former Plano athletes should come out and support their team. I'd like to see it. I would try and be coy and say that SLC would steal the idea from Plano and have our former letterment wear theirs to the state championship game. I am just joking though. I do not want to trash talk. I truly hope the Plano folks show up in the old letter jackets. It is a good idea. Good luck Wildcats.

They will! For the Plano vs. Plano East game this year, players from the previous eight seasons joined the Wildcats in the locker room.

At the homecoming game, Plano introduced on the field past homecoming queens all the way back to the 1930's! The graduates are very loyal to this school.

Trust me if this game draws 40,000+ I bet ESPN will start thinking about a way to televise more Play-off games or big match ups. There is a big market out there for this as evident by all of us nuts on this board.

I have friends in other states back east and even out west etc. and they always ask me about how big HS ball is here and I tell them and they do not believe it.

In fact I have a friend who lives in Plano he moved here a couple of years ago from NY. He played HS ball and wanted to come to a game with me. I took him to an Allen-Plano game and he was awe struck he thought he was at a college game and keep in mind this was a normal district game at Eagle stadium not a Playoff game at TS. He said his games only drew about 400-500 people per side and that was on a good night and it was the norm for his area.

He couldn't believe it he was so pumped he went with me to the Lufkin Plano game in Waco he was even more awe struck at that game! He is now assimilated and feels like one of the gang, he can now tell his friends at work hey I saw Reggie Mac put Plano away that year in the Playoffs now that he sees these guys at the college level and remembers them.

I had a co-worker from New Zealand join me at the Lewisville vs. Plano game this year. When he was walking up to Clark Stadium he thought it was a professional team's stadium and the school was just using it. That's until he entered the stadium and saw Plano's crowd. He was shocked! He bought a program and took pictures to show the folks back in New Zealand. The other element that he was really impressed by was the performance of the two marching bands.

There's nothing like Texas football. I have friends call me from Colorado, OK, AZ, LA whenever SLC is on Fox Sports/ESPN. They call during the game just to tell me they are watching. They marvel at the size of our crowds, our facilities, and just in general our fanatic nature in supporting our teams. Texas high school football, simply the best!!!

Tradition is something to be proud of. One of my favorite sayings is "tradition doesn't graduate." That certainly applies to this game. Two strong programs with great tradition. I wish this game would be televised so that folks could learn even more about these 2 great schools.

Plano's school motto is "A tradition of excellence."

When I first moved to Plano twenty years ago I thought it was just a typical politically correct motto. After two or three years I realized they were dead serious about the motto. The teachers, administrators, students, graduates, etc. really fight hard to live up to those who came before them!

My aunt taught at Plano for twenty years. She has been retired for over 15 years. Every two weeks or so she goes up to the school and eats at the cafeteria with the current teachers, past teachers, etc. They are still loyal to the school!

You need to come on down, dragonsdaddy.

And go ahead and wear your Southlake Carroll gear. Not many have the distinction of being a part of two great high school traditions.

Can we stay on the sidelines after the player intros. Last time I was on that turf we just had Thumped LDBELL in 86 semifinals.

"LIving old football memories on the field's " As Wooderson said in Dazed & Confused. "Alright, Alright ALLLRIGHT", "You just got to keep on livin" :)

If 28-21 is a 'thumping', then what SLC could very possibly do to you tomorrow would be like Hiroshima.

It is a tradition for alumni at po games to wear their letter jackets. It is really quite a site to see.
