Who do you think will win and why?

Dont know much about Wylie, but Cove is on fire offensively and the D stepped up huge last night. We need to carry the MO into next week.
Any word on game site?

Probably Waco. I'm hearing waco ISD or Floyd Casey. If it's Waco ISD, Cove will be the visitors. If it's Floyd Casey, Cove will be the home team.

Copperas Cove, why? Because I'm a homer:). But on a more serious note. The Dawgs have been improving each week. The Defense has been consistant, the offense has been clicking, the QB is now in mid season form, all are healthy, Cove has the experience of being in the State-Semis for 3 years in a row, and the fans will follow the Dawgs. Go Dawgs, Continue to Get TUIT!

Well, it's gonna be a tough game. Wylie has some hosses on defense, apparently. I don't really wanna point out the victory over Klein Oak because I feel like Klein Oak got over-confident. They didn't bring their A-game and it showed. Wylie, on the other hand, I'm sure will be prepared. I'm a little concerned. The Dawgs have their work cut out for them. Time to GET TUIT!

Wylie. Their defense shut out Cedar Hill in the second half. They are playing lights out! This should be a great game but I have the Pirates winning this one.

Should be a good game. One of those coinflip type games. Slightly favor Wylie because of a much tougher schedule. Whoever wins this game should be the state champs. I don't think the R3 or R4 champ will be able to keep up. But who knows?

Probably Waco. I'm hearing waco ISD or Floyd Casey. If it's Waco ISD, Cove will be the visitors. If it's Floyd Casey, Cove will be the home team.
It would be horrific if Cove played at WISD for a state semis game

PS: Let's attempt to keep this thread civil, I know we all like our team and rightly so, but there is no need to attempt to trash the other team or players, or for that matter other posters. Both of these schools have great programs and they are 2 of only 8 teams (4 DI & 4 DII) that are still playing football after tonight. May each team play hard and have no injuries throughout the week of practice on in the game. Yes, I am a peacemaker and perfer to let the player do the work of making war on the field. Have a great week of posting and let's see each other on opposite sides of WISD on Saturday. :)

That was a bad showing by Killeen. Lost to them in district 50-9 and got rolled today. Didn't listen to it, but there's no way LT didn't run up that score. When you're up by 40 it's time to call off the hounds.

That's not the reason any team is this far along. The 4 remaining teams are this far along because they are playing better football than their competition. His point was that every week of the post season teams have used the logic that they were better and going to win because their district or the teams they have played were better than any team we have played....and well...thats just not the case...it has been proven 3 times now! :)

We don't even know how we got this far. We have played no one up to this point. W'eve just been plain lucky I guess. I know I was hoping that Irving would have the same luck and we'd play them at this point so that we might have a chance to go to state. Anyway, here we are. Well Oak only had 3int's going into the game on Friday and ended the night at 7. Watch what you say. We had more to's in one game then we did all season. Because the dawgs played well.

8-5a is the toughest district in the state and has proven it thus far. Allen knocked off Trinity by a lot and Wylie lost to Allen by 3 points. They lost to Plano by 1 td. Wylie's Defense is one of the best I've seen in a long time. There D line create so much havoc and penetrate so well that they get a lot of tackles behind the line of schrimage. #8, #6, #14 on D can change the game. Ben Melina is one of the best backs in the state and they chewed him up today. Oh and if you want to pass, well, your qb won't have much time. They flush the pocket really well. I'm a Plano fan and have witnessed Wylie play 4 times. They are better every week but there D has been great all year.

From what I have heard, the Coaching Staff is terrible when they call plays, why call the dang play through "HUGE" signs? Not sure, but Wylie has had some great scouters.
As for the fans filling up our side of the field...
I seriously doubt it. Allen tried to do that to us in their "Double-Wide" Eagle Stadium, but that didn't seem to do well when our side was completely Full.
Anyways, it will be a dog fight (HAHAHA Pun) to see who is more deserving of a state championship battle.

Haven't seen Cove play but have seen Wylie 3 times, the last today when they dismantled Cedar Hill. And the QB Monk had a terrible day. Think it's going to be a good game but can't see Cove winning. Region I is just too tough. Wylie should win it all.
Uh, no he didn't...
Monk
Rushing: 10-24
Passing: 9-17-0-143
2 TD Passes
It wasn't one of his best games (stat wise) but it sure wasn't a terrible day. Also keep in mind that we have a very balanced offense and that Nick Knott ran for 2 TD.
Knott
Rushing: 15-159
Receiving: 2-58
Team
Rushing: 31 for 218
Passing: 150

I do. I am probably one of the few here who has seen both Cove and Wylie TWICE each in the playoffs. Wylie's defense is average and they will have to rely %100 on throwing the ball
Do the Pirates pass much?? We are looking for Chris Miller to set a 5A record, but ya'll will have to pass for it to happen. 13 pics and counting,,, help a fella out

That is not surprising to me, since Wylie lost to Allen by a margin of 3 points, considering I am not blind when I read that was the Final Season Voting. But if you take a look at the top 25 on this very site, you will see that Wylie is 14, and Allen is 2...woah hold the phone for a second! Where is Copperas Cove or Allen?

That's all good, but ya'll have to realize none of that matters come Saturday night. Wylie is a good team and they will come to play. This child's game of "who beat who" and stats and all that other crap doesn't matter. In the playoffs, every team is 0-0 every night. I just hope the Dawgs stay focused this week and get TUIT!

to sum it up WYLIE ....you now have our undivided attention
This has all the makings of a 21-17 type game with the edge possibly going to Wylie at this point.....intangibles that could shift to "MO" to Cove, game experience, many players on the Cove them and battle tested and have played in 40+ games in last 2-3 years, also playing in Waco ISD, it is like a second home to the Dawgs......IMHO this makes it close to a "push" at this point

Of course I am pulling for Cove - and I do believe that this will be a great game on Saturday - no blow out either way...but I am sure Cove will be considered the underdog due to what has to this point been flawed reasoning. :)

I don't think Klein Oak was able to say they were successful in calling every play after Halftime was over, that's just not right. Even though, they did scout when CC played KO...err last night.

Pirate - I am sure they did...KO said these same things last week. I could not make to your game today, but I did listen to it in its entirety on the radio. Wylie, too, is an impressive team. I hope you are just smack talking...I can deal with that...in fact, it becomes quite fun. But also realize that Cove sent scouts to that game...(or help me out here Cove fans - did our coaching staff decide that just wasn't necessary?) There will be a game plan in place to deal with AHMO and Cove's player's and coaches will execute that plan. There will be no blowout in Waco Saturday night.
O no, they sent SOMEBODY.. might not have been any of the Big Three (Welch, Welch, and Brock) but somebody was there, make no bones about it. As a former, well, side-line sitter, I know that Cove's scouting is some of the best there is, period. Players even take test to know what the names of the opponent are, how tall, big, and sometimes even how their 40 time is... Cove's coaching and scouting has gotten Cove out of many scrapes (Texas High, 2006; Waxahachie, 2007; and even Cy Ridge this year, the final touchdown play was an audible) and will continue to serve well in this game with HUGE implications..

Wont that be a home game for Wylie then? From Cove its 80 miles to Waco(the football team doesnt take FM 116 which is shorter, they take 190 to 35) and 120 for Wylie

I think the people running the show on who is the underdogs and who are the "Bullies" are starting to see that Wylie does in fact exist.
My Final Outcome of the Game:
Wylie: 53
Copperas Cove: 28.
Wylie just has a good way of getting the job done on offense, and the defense will be on edge all night long.
53 points! Are you serious? You guys have a great team but come on.

BCS and High School football? Oh lord no, you would have some absurd team like PESH Playing for State.
Either way, I overheard someone today saying that the coaches was able to call every play that Cove wanted to do.
Guessing that is what happens when you use big signs to call the plays?
Wow you must have the smartest coaches in all the state. Finally someone has figured out what plays Cove is going to run because they use big signs.

When I said that it was going to be 52-28 Wylie-CC, I actually meant it. Of course, everyone has their own opinion. Some may think it's closer with Wylie winning, some have theirs with CC winning. Really and truly, this far into the playoffs anything can happen.
"Offense wins games, Defense wins championships."
The offense is really a push, I have watched Wylie all-year long, and have seen Cove only once in person, the rest through highlights and film.
Defense: Wylie has an excellent, balanced defense capable of handling the run. Cove also has a defense, with their main pressure allotting from the Secondary.
If Wylie somehow happens to play on the same level they did against Arlington Bowie; my projected score/winner might be the final outcome.
(Chances of that happening: 1 in 25,000)

No doubt Whitlock is a star...every team has them...it just amazes me how people come out and say that 1 team at this level is sooooooooo much better than the other because they have this player or that player. I promise Cove has players that are at the same capability level, same conditioning level, and same heart and desire level as every other team playing next weekend. All of the final 4 teams would be pretty evenly matched no matter which team they are playing.

My Prediction
Copperas Cove- 45
Wylie-31
The most points Wylie has given up all year has been 38...that was to Plano and their triplets (Meger, Burkhead & Lott). So I doubt seriously that Cove will score that many points on our "D".

If Wylie does beat Copperas Cove...do they get arrested and prosecuted for Dog Fighting, and Animal Abuse?
I say we learn from the best:

Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Oak turn the ball over A LOT? Cove could score more then 38 on Wylie if we turn the ball over as much as Oak did but I just don't see that happening.

And do you think KO thought that was going to happen? The fumbles weren't necessarily caused by our D, but 4 INTs...we do happen to sport quite an awesome secondary...and according to the stats I have viewed, I believe Wylie passes more often than KO.

I can't help but laugh at that...I have no idea as to the size of your O-Line...but no kidding - every week of the playoffs we have heard that from the upcoming opponents fans. So I guess by that standard, Mesquite Horns O-line were midgets, and we are gradually working our way up to going against an O-line of Jolly Green Giants. KO had some big linemen...but they couldn't keep up with the speed and stamina of our D...that's what happened to KO's O-Line.

I don't know if we pass more then Oak but we rush more then we pass...
Pass: 2723 yds
Rush: 3009 yds
Avg: 409.4 yds
I'm sure your secondary is good...but just because Oak's QB threw INT's doesn't mean Monk will replicate. He is a very compossed player who does not make many mistakes.

Our Dawgs played a great game last night! It will be another good one next Saturday, I'm sure! Looks like everything I've been reading puts us closely matched up with Wylie. And at this stage in the playoffs, it's as it should be. Everyone in Cove and everyone in Wylie have a lot to be proud of in our teams, coaches, cheerleaders, band and fans!
My neighbor told me this place puts out for the best smack talkin' and after reading the cove/oak thread, I believe it! Now get on with the smack gentlemen (should I consider that term loosely?).

Horn game....new QB first start lots, of mistakes, many missed scoring ops
Boyd game.......2nd / 3rd team played most of 2nd half, game was over at half time , How long did Wylie keep starting defense in your game against Boyd
doesn't matter anyway Wylie & Cove both beat these schools
Wylie beats (Beats down that is ) Horn early in season, Cove catches them in playoff game once they made a late season run to make it
last I checked a W is a W no matter what...

"Wylie was in the driver’s seat from the get-go. Tigers quarterback Jercolby Bradley’s second pass attempt was picked off by Pirates defensive back Daniel Jordan, who returned it to the 9-yard line. Two plays later, Noah Cheshier stepped through several tackles on his way into the end zone for the Pirates first points.
Following the kickoff, Bradley fired into the middle of the field and directly into the hands of Jordan for his second interception in less than two minutes. Jordan picked off the Tigers signal caller a third time early in the second quarter."

Comparison of common opponents is one of the best methods for assessing relative strength of teams that have yet to play.
Of course there are exceptions, but the best way to predict the future is a close review of the past.
