Mike obviously realizes despite his constant efforts, nobody wants him and he's taking the money from Tech before the wise up and realize they can have him for less since nobody wants him. Supposedly it will be a 5 year $12+ million deal...

Leach Agrees to Five Year Contract
BY DON WILLIAMS
AVALANCHE-JOURNAL

Despite premature rumblings suggesting Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach was headed for Washington or Auburn, the author of Tech's best season in school history has agreed in principal to a 5 year $12.1 million contract extension that will keep him in Lubbock beyond 2010.

7-5 next year

Rice (Home)(W)
New Mexico (Home)(W)
Houston (Away)(L)
Arkansas State (Home)(W)
Kansas State (Home)(W)
Nebraska (Away)(L)
Texas A&M (Home)(W)
Kansas (Home)(W)
Texas (Away)(L)
Oklahoma State (Away)(L)
Baylor (Away)(L)
Oklahoma (Home)(L)

I'll say 6-6. Overachieving at 8-4. W/o Harrell it'll be difficult. Personally, I think Crabtree with stop the "I'm staying!" stuff, in a few weeks.. opting for the Draft! Tech is young, overall, but Harrell's tenure is an enormous part of why they were as successful as they've been.

Thank the Lord! :notworthy

Ok, we are losing most of our starters but Mike Leach brings life to this football team. We aren't winning 11 games by any means next year, but Leach may be able to bring in better recruits in the near future.

Damn you, jtk!! You suck! :p :o

In "principal" to a new deal? Damn, I should have known this story was bogus.

The hell with it. If he re-signs, cool. We'll see if he does by Monday or so.

I'll believe the Auburn deal is dead when I hear Auburn replaces Tuberville with a person not named Mike Leach.

Potts will be good. He's had two years to learn the offense under Leach and Harrell's guidance. I can see him personally costing us at least 2 games, but he has the ability to get the job done.

I really didn't expect it to take 7 posts for this one to get exposed.

I would be shocked if you knew that info before me and I didn't have a text message on it. Besides, I've been working on a reasonable list of teams you can use in rumors.

You should really get on loony's text message list. I get a text every time Leach shaves his pubic hair. Well worth the $9.99 a month.

Here's what I think will happen and I have no leads on this right now.

Tech offered 5 and $12.1M and said they can't pay 5 and $15M.

Leach's agents will ask for 5 and $14M and they'll settle for 5 and $13M. That will put him in the Top 15 in salaries.

5 years at $14 million. Leach really thinks he's worth as much or more money than Mack and Robert Anthony? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! If Pizza U. pays that, the new "aggy" title is permanent.

Hell, if you can get that kind of information for $9.99 a month, then I can't wait to see what else you get.

No, he'll be behind them in salary.

No, he'll be behind them in salary.

Mack pulls $2.8 million this year in guarantees and Robert Anthony $2.65 million this year. $14 million over 5 years breaks down to $2.8 million a year.

Hard to believe that Tech is going to let this guy who weirded out Donna Shalala violate them like that while they are running defecits in the athletic department. No one else has shown a willingness to take him off their hands.

Hate to say it, but these kinds of demands from Leach indicate that he is far more mercenary and less attached to all thing Lubbock than anyone thinks. Freaking Bobby Knight didn't try to bend Tech over like that and he is future Hall of Fame Coach. He also gave away huge chunks of his salary to the school, something that I have not heard of from Leach.

Now JoPa, there is a man who is and always has been happy with his situation. He already charges WAY less than other coaches at comprable programs. I just can't picture him, at any point in his career, telling a Penn State AD awash in red ink "pay me, beeyotches, or I will interview at Awbarn. And talk to my agent."

Maybe sales of the Big XII South Champs t-shirt will cover the raise though.

I saw Stoops compensation at over $3M this year (Not counting that big bonus) and Mack close to $2.8 and I said I thought Leach would settle at $13M or $2.6M a year.
