You picked mine!! I love Chris!! I watched him intently as a child - he was my hero. And, then I met him last year and had the best conversation about our Bears with him. He misses them just as I do. He is the NICEST guy too. He was a monster on that grass over at Grob (no turf then) and I'm sure there are some old players out there from places such as South Houston, Galena Park, Smiley, etc who remember Chris well;)

Okay, since Chris was taken, I'll add 2 guys who went on to play very well at OU (much to my chagrine) and then played for the NY Giants and the Chicago Bears (once a Bear always a Bear!) - Phil and Paul Tabor. Ignore the fact that I had a huge crush on both because I couldn't tell them apart but they were very good defensive linemen - hence the reason they ended up in the NFL. We never went to playoffs while I was at SB even though we usually ended with a one or two loss season (only one team then) but if we had, it would have been beautiful with these two in the line!!
And they were good people which means a lot in my book too.

Vince Young also punted for Madison. Good kicker - absolutely devastating when he decided to run with the ball from deep punt formation; which he did about one out of 3 times. Never saw him thrown for a loss when he decided to run for it. Great instincts on when to go and when to kick.
As I have pointed out before he also picked off a pass and returned it for a score in Madison's playoff win against Katy.

He was A LOT of fun to watch...... Special player
I have never seen anybody dominate that much ever before except Shepard... That includes Andrew Luck
But because he went to a no name school (for recruiting purposes - I mean hes our last D-1 signee... 2004) and he didnt have relation to a former NFL QB he slipped through the cracks and ended up at Baylor

there have been so many great players from the Houston area, that two years ago, the NFL had more players from the Houston area than any other area in the United States....I think everyone has their favorite players who they will name like Vince Young, but there are so many awesome players from the entire area like:
RB Ben Gay Spring '95.....Gay was a first team all state selection his senior year, and was the number one recruit in the nation when he came out in '95 he ended up going to Baylor, had to leave Baylor and head to a community college in Kansas, Garden City, and played two years in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns
RB Anthony Evans, Pearland 01...ended his career as one of the top rushers in class 5A history in rushing and scoring. He was 1st team all state, greater Houston POY and all everything for four years at Pearland...he was the first great RB to come out of PHS. he chose the University of Houston over Oklahoma, and was derailed by injuries at UH
RB Jacquizz Rodgers, Lamar Consolidated '07....left high school as the all time td leader in Texas, passing up Cedric Benson of Midland Lee....he won the state title in his senior season, and because of his size(5'6") he wasnt higly recruited...He joined his brother James at Oregon St, and led the Pac 10 in rushing(first freshmen to ever do that) and was the newcomer of the year in the Pac 10 and nationally by ESPN
LB Corey Redding, North Shore '98....was the first of the big time recriuts to come out of North shore and was the USA today player of the year in 1998 when he left high school to head to the University of Texas...was 1st team all big 12 twice at DE for Texas, was a third round pick of the Detriot Lions and is currently their defensive captain...
TE Martelles Bennett, Alief Taylor '05..was the truth in high school...first team all state in footbal...first team all state in basketball..had fine three year career at Texas A&M, and currently 2nd team TE on Dallas Cowboys

I remember watching Vince Young playing against the Tigers in 2001.
On one play he threw a high pass then ran downfield and blocked for his receiver. His receiver got tripped up and Vince ended up catching his own pass and ran it in for a TD.

It's possible. He was a beast in HS, but wasn't as ballyhooed as others. Just like in college. So, I think his NFL career might do the same thing that others' NFL days have done to shine light on their HS career.

Because Andre Ware forgot to mention us. Says he is from League City Tx. Never helped in our community. Told me "what has Dickinson done for me". Might be true but you can do something to change DICKINSON. I will put our best players on here tomorrow. I need to go to the field house and get the players and schools and NFL teams but for starters. DOnnie Little QB univeristy of texas and then Seattle Seahakws.

WOW......didnt know that. I listen to him every morning on 610 and he's usually plugging the Dickison Gators. Sometimes he DOES seem bitter about Not going to UT because they wanted him to play saftey....did that have something to do with the coaching at Dickinson at the time?

Originally he was a reciever and wanted to play QB, but u of H was the only team who wanted him to play QB. Coaching played a huge part. Coaching is corrupt in Dickinson. I hope we get a good coach. This is supposed to be Trahans last year. Someone who will run some I form pro form and offset I and a little bit of shotgun. It would be nice to get someone normal

On the outside looking in....Dickinson was LOADED with talent. And finding out that the best WR was only a WR the last 3 games of the season made me stumble back a bit. Can you Imagine what a Coach Like Joseph at Katy or Ayamond at North SHore could do with all that talent...especially not having to share it with other 5A schools in the same district?

The scary thing is how Brody should have been at linebacker, a down hill playing line backer. I think his dad lowered his stock putting him at QB. Brody will fill out to be about 6'2 235 4.6 forty. People don't realize that La marque and Dickinson are slowly merging. la Marque might soon be consolidated due to grades, so with a new stadium, school growing in size and education. Student athletes are flocking to become part of our program. I could only imagine if we had North Shores coach. We wouldnt have the problem of our kids being told to quit and go join a gang;)

I made the comment, at the begginning of the season, that Katy would walk through Euless Trinity, Allen, Plano, Permian, North Shore and just about anyone else, if Joseph had the athletes that Dickinson had. It's fascinating how their coaching is so horrid that it takes away from the shock-n-awe of the athletes themselves.

They give our kids no hope. Half of the kids didn't even know they were being recruited:eek:. When i told them after THEGREATONE posted on the BWBW vs DICKINSON our kids were in awe. Had no idea they were even being looked at. We had a guy, #82, who is a good kid, but only moved up because his uncle is a coach. he played there the whole year. Trahan said in the newspaper, Well Rickie gaines wasn't getting the plays mentally. A 6'3 205 recievers with hand and can jump out the gym only needs to know a few routes.....fly, fade post seam lol. Like patriots use moss on deep patterns and Welker for the complicated inside routes. Dickinson kids and players "mostly black" are not treated right by this coach. The stories i hear i am at awe.

I absolutely hate to drag a race card. but when you see and hear the ytype of suspensions handed out, players who are good kids who ride the bench behind sophmores whos uncles are the coach. You have no choice but to toss out that card. sometimes not even racism but Classism. It is truely sad. Jashaud sims #11 is our Quaterback. they made him play reciever, he EXCELLED at reciever with one handed catches, perfect route running. To be moved up to varsity and put at safety and move a guy who was on the same team with jashaud to reciever who had NEVER PLAYED reciever. Then have Brody forcing the ball to him against creek and him dropping a WIDE OPEN pass. Trahans philosophy " no one will out shine my son, he will have the most rushing Td's the most passing TD's and will be the only one i mention who is getting D-1 attention, i will build the whole offense around him!"

You're right, but if we're talking all around talent and knowing the position like the back of your hand...Tate is one of the best QBs to come out of Houston and the state of Texas. The guy was an absolute monster on the field. He lacks height but it didn't stop him in college either. If he had a few more inches I bet he'd be starting in the NFL...or at least a solid backup.
Nope last name was always hayes
Yep....1989....Quentin Hines...Derrick Peavy and Mercury Brady.....he changed his name later:

That dude was for REAL! The best team he ever played on was actually in JUCO. He played with QB-Michael Bishop (KSU/NFL), WR-Quincy Morgan (KSU/NFL), RB-Mike Green (Hou/NFL), Craig Koontz (AA), Brandon Harrison (AA) and Michael Jackson (AA).
Anyhow, Hanson went on to play for Kansas.

Seriously...Lists without Aaron Glenn or Leo Mills is incomplete.
I would Take Leo Mills at RB over Thomas any day of the week. Neil Quillen said him self that Leo Mills was without a shadow of a doubt the best Running Back he had ever seen....
Thomas was a phenom, but if anyone got a chance to watch Leo Mills knows that he was one bad dude....Regarded as one of the area's most physically talented football players...Makes HS Adrian Peterson look like a Cub-scout.

Chris Gilbert
For my generation, Chris was good but he could not hold Warren McVeys jock stap as the ole saying goes. I know, I played with Chris my most of my playing days but I have never seen a high school back as good as Warren. Really nothing against Chris but my lord, Warren was something to behold. Those of us who were lucky enough to see McVey in high school saw something that may never be dupilicated.

Best running back had to be Derrick Foster from the 94-95 La Marque, he was TOO FAST! I have yet to see one like him! Except  Don Henderson from Hitchcock Texas. 7th grade 5'9 180, fast, strong, 18 touchdowns 2800 yards 4.6 forty, yes 4.6 forty lol, i have clocked him, i made him run barefooted, with cleats, with tennis shoes and same time. He is fast and a good kid. Makes good grades and is making his parents very proud. :notworthy

How can you OU guys be forgetting Chuck Thomas, who was a center at Stratford High School?
He was all Big-8 twice, tore up pretty much every nose guard he faced, and then went on to play for the 49ers for a few years. I've seen his super bowl rings. He was a stud center on the championship team in 78 when he was only a junior.
