The biggest factors are the weather and sheer numbers. The three top "talent" producing states in the nation are Texas, California and Florida. Those three states are among the most populated in the nation. They also enjoy good weather year round. We are able to play football and baseball year round. It's hard to work on baseball in the fall in New England when your buried under two feet of snow. I know it sounds small and insignifigant, but it is a very large factor.

id imagine itd have to be the will of the people doing it. It seems to me that Texans have tons of pride in being texans, and it obvioulsy shows in the sports, which drives them to be the best.

I agree with you 100%. That's one of the major reasons Texas has so many powerful teams and athletes. The kids get to speed most of the year getting outside and playing all kinds of different sports.

Also, having large numbers of athletes helps out also. Sport Illustraded did an article about 6 years ago on high school football. Texas has the most kids in America playing High school football. One in every five kids in AMERICA playing High school football was a Texas kid ( 1/5). That's a very large ratio favoring Texas.

Thought it pertinent to add these recent Texas accomplishments:

Lady Longhorns Softball no worse that 4th in nation.
Longhorns baseball just qualified for regional final.
Longhorn women tennis 2nd in nation.
Keller softball 1st in nation, Garland Lady Owls 9th.
Rice Baseball to regional final.
Longhorn men and womens golf were very good but I forgot rankings.

That's all for now.

Texas certainly is up there. But I believe California has an argument for #1. I remember seeing on another site someone putting up stats on Olympic athletes and California was just huge - even out of proportion to its already huge size. And it dominates baseball too. I think Cali had more pro players to its credit than the next several top states combined. Obviously, Cali is blessed with weather probably even more favorable than Texas'.

Texas has football, though..... not much doubt about that.

Ya, will I'm going to let REL show that Texas has very explosive offensives and stout defensives on the HS level. I'm not going to go into the whole STAT thing again that clearly shows it.

Plus, despite what some believe. I think Texas HS play very stout defense also and SLC 2004 defense was very good. ( They just had to play against teams that could actually move the football).

I think Texas HS results against some of Louisiana top echlon teams over the past few years proves that point. Unless someone is going to tell me that Evangel Christian doesnt really have a good offense and they cant play defense (Louisiana annual powerhouse team).

enough said,, I'll let the REL boys show what they can do this season.

PS. I still didnt mention "homeboys name" so I guess the record ( 4 post in a row) still holds true.

We also can hold our own in CC and golf. If i am not mistaken TWHS was ranked number 1 in the nation in CC this year.

Also let's not forget Keller finished #1 in the nation in softball this year.

Throw in those two national championships from Dallas Lincoln and Sugarland Dulles back when TJ Ford and Chris Bosh played and you can make a strong argument.

I wonder which state has had more programs finish number 1 in the mythical HS poll since its debut. I know Texas has had, Permian, Lee, Plano, Carroll, and im sure some others, but if you took each state, which state would come out on top as far as the most overall programs to have captured that title?

I saw on a website that athletes from Florida had the most players currently in the NFL - Texas was second by about 20 players.

Florida's Athletes are every bit as good as Texas Maybe better -

We have better Football teams because we place a higher emphasis on Athletics -

Florida does not even have middle school athletics - So, many start playing sports in high school putting them several years behind.

So all in all, I agree - Texas Best Sport State

It is not up-to-date, but this gives the titleists from 2002 and before:

Florida doesnt put as much into the Off-season football either like Texas does. But, the top level Florida teams have just as many legit D-1A athletes as the top level Texas do. Just from what I've seen on the surface living here in Florida now. The Texas "AVERAGE PLAYER" is alot better than the Florida "Average player." In my opinion..

When you get into large classification football (5A & 4A). Its not really how many D-1A athletes you have. Its how good your so called "AVERAGE PLAYERs" are. Texas is loaded with alot of Great so called "AVERAGE Players" on teams dotted with D-1A athletes. In all it equals into alot of great High school teams.

CC Moody was #1 in the nation last year (Baseball)

Fort Bend Elkins won the baseball so called National Title like 3 years ago. They had a High school baseball team that could of played with Rice and UT and given them a top-notch game.

They had top notch pitchers, fielders and hitters. I think half the team got drafted in the MLB draft in a two year span (Seniors/Juniors). Dang they were great.

What about Bellaire High School? I think maybe 5 years ago, they won national beating Twain (I forgot) in Baseball.
